Always cheaper to buy from manufacture hence the reason you don't see all operators going to dealers for their buses cos the Mark up would be too much

Because first do not sell buses to other operators, no doubt scared they will do a better job of running a bus service with their own ex buses.... The metrobuses were all scrapped straight from service apart from one from the brwy batch. The last in service in the uk was 2005/6 with first mAnchester still operating a few of the f xwys at the time

I'd like to travel back to 1997-8, so I can see & photo the very start of Halifax Joint Committee with the Heritage Trail they started off with running between Halifax & Hebden Bridge (Using Regent BCP 671) & slowly watch HJC progress into what they are like today. i wouldn't call it progress....more like decline

I wonder why West Yorkshire has this situation where only the 4 travel centres in the former WYPTE/Yorkshire Rider area are full Metro Travel Centres, all the others are run by the bus companies themselves (Arriva or Keighley & District) In Manchester and South Yorkshire all the travel centres are full PTE shops isn't it summat to do with buses in the yorkshire rider area where owned and operated by WYPTE at one time as were the bus stations so therefore they were staffed as such and West riding etc weren't owned as such and therefore not staffed as such?

I doubt its a complete new chassis more like updated engine and drivetrain, I doubt they are going to seperate the body from chassis! Also the olympian is the firdt production olympian or atleast a very early one and was at keighley before

First is becoming to much of a monopoly, its about time oft stepped in!! I wouldn't mind but they run a crap sevice in any case!! and do what exactly?. First West Yorkshire are smaller now than Yorkshire Rider were! It's not First's fault that no independants are running in Leeds First only needs to have more than 23% market share to be classed as a monopoly as with any company!! Its about time to be honest local places had their own bus companies ie local authorities not just some large company that cares for nothing but shareholders! First having more than 23% market share is bad for the customer, it lowers choice, however, some cases as in leeds or bradford this is unavoidable but still they should offer a better service!! Yorkshire rider weren't all that good neither, especially around huddersfield and halifax, that though is irelevant to this as is yorkshire rider. reregulate the bus industry and lets say goodbye to cowboy outfits and fat cat compnaies like first and arriva

if health and safety have been investigating, which is more than likely metro and first will have no choice but to convert the Olympians. london has no problems with them!!

Noticed 31772 and 31767 have had the treatment as well. I haven't kept track so what buses now have had doors removed. Just glancing through the argument that has arisen over money "wasted" on conversion of the buses. Well how has taxpayers money been wasted because it just seems rather sensationalised on what you have said Richard. In all fairness, there was no suggestion of the gentleman who was killed had alighted from a dual door Olympian so it could be argued on why they should recieve the conversion. However Metro responded to save their own necks by making the changes to stand allocations in the bus station so centre exit doors don't open on to roadway in the Bus Station which would prevent another accident occuring again. Therefore saving Metro and First alot of grief on accident investigation, media slaughtering them over another accident and possibility of legal action taken against them. money shoudl have been used elsewhere. this country really has become a nanny state!! Metro should have higher priorities! they may as well now convert the ftrs and artics to single door! Its about time metro started doing what it shud instead been so crap, london has had dual door buses for years!! if you ask me it was more benefical to passengers to retain the dual doors as they speed up stop times, obviously metro cannot see this and has done what it has done!!
