I understand an announcement will be made sometime this month regarding a new order for buses for two financial years.

Hopefully it maybe a fleet replacement for York and they actually look at something alternative to just Wright. Hope they go for Optare orders or maybe MCV.

What happened to the good relationship with Dennis/Plaxton from the First Bus era ? I remember 100's of Dart's been delivered in 1997-1998 etc. Variation is good, hopefully Wright may restyle the rear of the Gemini i mean the job they did on the front was brilliant.

Not really a massive difference. The Gemini has one of the ugliest rears around yet one of the best front ends. Do wright still plan to build anymore FTR's or launch a new bendibus.

The Gemini rear ends are massively different.
I heard that the new bus order is going to consist of buses for London tenders and buses for the olympics contract, and nothing else.

Buses for Olympic contract's will be used for them. What happen's when they finish? Me think's they'll be spread throughout the country. Devon/Cornwall mainly could do with them. WE could do with getting rid of our ALX400. All makes sense. Recieve money for the buses + alot more running them during the Olympics then send them out to the operations.

I think its fairly obvious what'll happen with the Olympic contract buses but wont they have to be to TFL spec?

The order that First have put in for the Olympic buses are non TfL spec and they will be shipped round the UK when the Olympics have finished.

Will York receive anything ? I guess it's like Manchester ordering their B7L's in 2002 for the Commonwelth now dotted around the UK.

Everyone no doubt will see the share of them depending where it is commercially viable to do so, and York is probably highlighted as a area that does not need new buses yet given its oldest vehicle's are early 2000's which is only 11 year old compared to other area's of First which still have long serving Leyland's still going strong even though they are few and far between. It will be a wait and see situation on who gets what and where...

Where has the oldest First fleets. I thought York was on a fleet renewal program every few years as part of the 2001 order. Didn't they have a Volvo contract ?

There are believed to be around 600 buses in use from First alone for the Olympic contract. It will need approximately 1,500. I believe the rest will be hired in.

Small vehicles will need to be ordered soon for the rural parts of Somerset & Avon such as Yeovil, Bridgwater & Taunton where L reg Merc Minibuses can still be found on most commercial town routes, probably with Optare Solos and Enviro 200's or maybe the Streetlite! Hampshire & Dorset will probably take deckers for Southampton to withdraw any remaining Volvo Olympians and Leicester and South Yorkshire will most likely recieve some too to replace their step-entrance deckers. Very few I would think would go to West Yorkshire, even Manchester requires both single and double deckers to remove the last of their step-entrance vehicles.

Hudds certainly has some step entrance deckers that need replacing but there probably are other areas in greater need.

And leeds need to either do something with ALX400 or replace them with NEW buses from this.
Also cornwall who have step entrance buses? ...

Why? Leeds' ALX400s (along with those all around the country) are low floor, get the passengers to where they want to be. They may be in need of a refurb, but not replaced fully as they still have a job to do and they still do it well.

I suppose the hope is that the ALX400 will leave Leeds and be used to displace older Step entrance buses elsewhere
