I think the event was great. The shuttle was well run and the stalls had a vast array of things to tempt the money out my wallet (the stalls won) Yes it would be better if there was about 5-10 buses that visit the event from Private owners and do trips all day to make it more like a small bus rally than an open day to draw in more visitors. I think your idea of having more buses, ether on display or operating the shuttle, would surly be more of a problem then a help to the museum. I could be wrong but from what I saw the museum has limited space available to it. The number of buses there seemed to take up a good deal of space and adding to that could create a few problems. Huddersfield Bus Co Scania 728 was on 231/2 today This bus has been in use quite a bit recently. Often parked up at the depot, doing very little, its nice to see it in service davidsnonrailwaypics.fotopic.net/p62047435.htmlHuddersfield Bus also had Optare Solo 335 working the 262 to Upper Heaton in place of one of the normal single or double deckers. Also First Bus had Royale 30820 on the 328 Lime Line while Arriva Enviro400 1906 was once again on the 229. All seen in the centre of Huddersfield. David.c

The new Optare double decker will indeed have the Olympus body, the chassis being new. Which I think is a good move as the Olympus body isnt to bad.
The Rapta was pulled not long after the 2008 Euro Bus Expo where it was unveiled. The Solo+ was also dropped. I think in both cases it was the styling and over all appearance that killed them off. The Electric powered Solo+ that was displayed next to the Rapta was re-boded with a normal Solo body and is now the flagship electric Solo that Optare are working on.

If one of them use to be G742RTY then this is now with Blue Bus (Penwortham), based just outside Preston. davidsnonrailwaypics.fotopic.net/p57871013.htmlI don't actually know if this bus came from Stephenson's but as it carries their livery I'm guessing it did. I have yet to find any pictures of it in service with them. David.c

Olympian 807 was working a Huddersfield Bus service yesterday, so am guessing the two double deckers out based at Honley are swapped around as and when maintenance dictates. Or are they used in normal service between school times?

And I've heard that all First Huddersfield Volvo Citybuses are due to be scrapped in the next couple of weeks to be replaced with Wright Geminis It would be a shame to lose the Citybuses. There high seating capacity makes them ideal for working the 398/399 Hudd Uni - Storthes Hall service. Often supplemented by Northern Counties Olympians, Royales and Geminis. Looks like I'll be in for Geminis all the time when I head back in September. Carnt wait for Huddersfield to gain Wright Gemini 2s, if it happens. The new Wright styling is growing on me. David.c

Yeah Esteems, Solos and Tridents are now in Stagecoach colours.
I don't think the Esteem looks that bad. The Solos and Tridents are just the same as all the others with Stagecoach. I am trying to keep up with the number of buses re-painted and as of Friday 13th there where 4 Solos, 1 Esteem and 1 Trident. But I have a feeling that's changing day by day.
lve got pictures of most of them on my site, link in sig below

Close but no cigar. Nice photos their Jack. I spent today traveling around in Preston making use of my Stagecoach megarider now that its valid on Preston Bus service. No longer have to get a separate ticket. I only got to the bus station at 12.00 so missed you by an hour or so.
Two Preston Bus Solos have been re-painted in Stagecoach livery, 47753 & 47754, (though nether seemed to be out and about today) while the rest are slowly gaining Stagecoach fleet numbers. Stagecoach Solos 47018,47019 and 47020 are now allocated to the Deepdale Road depot and often operate Preston Buses route 3.
The service changes on the 22nd March should see a major shake up of all services affected by the take over. Stagecoach have already announced a number of services that are to be with drawn including Preston Bus routes 24/25 and Stagecoach route 33. Preston Bus drivers are not happy as there will be a lack of work for all the drivers so some are hoping they can go for voluntary redundancy.

Livery/Bus combinations that would work or do work for me include: Wright Millennium style single deckers in Stagecoach colours. There have been a number taken into the fleet recently and they look really good.
The Preston Bus livery works well on Optare Solos and the East Lancs Esteems.
Livery/Bus combinations that would not work or do not work for me include: Wright Eclipse Gemini in Stagecoach livery. Not happened yet but I think the curve of the top deck would not suite the livery.
Optare Solos in standard Arriva livery. They look bad, plus there’s a number of different ways in which the livery is applied.
The new Travel West Midlands/Dundee/Coventry/Surrey livery is just so plain and boring and does not suite any bus.
As you may gather none of these are West Yorkshire but West Yorkshire fleets (for me) contain no real stand out livery/bus combinations. First is just plain and un-inspiring. Stagecoach, although colourful, is common and Arriva is another plain livery. Huddersfield Bus Co have bucked the trend a little with their bright Green Centros which I do like but other then that there isn’t much else in WY.

The town routes and express services must be bringing in the money for Stagecoach. Though they do also operate a number of Lancashire County Council services so money would be coming in that way as well.
The X2 and X61 routes are tachograph equipped and yes Enviro400s are due some time soon for the X2. Reliability seems to be the issue with these routes and also the Blackpool services. Not sure if the Fleetwood out station would have been included but it would leave a small number of Stagecoach vehicles some distance from any other main Stagecoach operation.
I have read that admin staff would be lost from Preston Bus if a takeover by Stagecoach took place. Stagecoach would want to keep things ticking over at Stockport. I don't know what would happen to the routes that now have both Preston Bus and Stagecoach operating them. Bring them all in line with each other operating at a high frequency. There's very little chance that Stagecoach would be able to operate the routes with just Solos. Bigger vehicles would be needed but I doubt the East Lancs Esteem would be brought into the fleet due to them being non standard.
There's going to be a lot of changes if a take over does take place and with the end of the current bus station looming it could prove interesting over the next few years.

A shame to see it go. A lot of hard work gone into many peoples sites and now its all gone.
I found fotopic to be a good search engine when looking up buses and trains that you needed to identify. Usually some one else would already have a picture of the vehicle.
(EDIT) It would seem that fotopic is not down and out just yet. There is much speculation about the current state of things but it may just be a technical issue which may last a few days. Possibly being sorted by the end of today (3rd Jan). Will just have to wait and see.

I would think that Stagecoach would be the best operator to take over Preston Bus. Not that I want to see the end of Preston Bus. They are a good operator with a well run set of routes and have done well to keep Stagecoach away for this long.
Apparently Transdev have been looking to complete their coast to coast operations with the acquisition of Stagecoach North Wests Preston operation. But Brian Souter wanted to keep the X routes (X2 and X61) which Transdev where not to keen on so things have not gone ahead. If it had gone ahead then Transdev would be on for getting Blackpool Transport to complete the set. I always though it would have been logical for Transdev to go for Preston Bus, but as I have said before it would have put them into direct competition with Stagecoach which I doubt they would have wanted.
