In an unusual move this morning, First Huddersfield had both 398 Storthes Hall diagrams being worked by single deckers. Wright Eclipse Volvo B7TL 66772 [YJ05VVP] and Pointer Dart 40875 [P827YUM] both on the route at the same time in place of the normal double deckers.
In the three years I've lived at Storthes Hall this is the first time I have seen two single deckers rostered for the route during the normal half hourly day time service.

One of Huddersfield Bus Company's Green Centros working the 85A Huddersfield-Barnsley service early this afternoon. I believe the Olympian that was originally on the service this morning broke down and returned to the depot.
Also in an odd move a Stotts Mercedes minibus working up to Storthes Hall this morning as part of the open day held at the university.

It seems K-Line are looking into new buses possibly? Or covering for another bus which is off the road. Ether way, Wright Pulsar2 VDL SB200 demonstrator YJ59AZA is currently out in service on the 324B to Meltham. davidsnonrailwaypics.fotopic.net/p63440197.htmlThe bus has previously been on hire to Arriva North East and First South Yorkshire. First Huddersfield currently have Eclipse 66765, YJ05VVG, working the 398 Storthes Hall shuttle. Also Huddersfield bus have their recently arrived Marshall Dart out in service. I was unable to note which service it was. David.c I know they had the ex Elland depot one out on the 241/2 today if that's the one you are on about? I saw it near Huddersfield Uni while I was waiting for the bus back to Storthes. It was heading out of town. I friend did text me earlier saying its on the 81, but it could have easily have been on the 241/2. David.c

A quick question regarding the Royales transferring out of Huddersfield. How many are leaving and where are they heading? (ok that's two) I know Bradford is mentioned above, for 30816, but I've also read Halifax is gaining them.

The Glasgow based Enviro500s are Dennis Tridents.
They may be ok for busy routes that are in demand through out the day but as you said the Royales have plenty of life in them yet (though I do wounder with some of the West Yorkshire examples). Give them a refurb, likely to cost less then a new Enviro500, and they will continue to keep on working for a few years yet.
Plus the Enviro500s are odd ball buses in the First Bus fleet. Their continued partnership with Volvo and Wright Bus will probably lower the chances of these appearing any time soon.

The 343 needs 4 buses and operates with MX04VMG and MX56NLP plus overall cream YG52DFX and NY03PUV The Centro is now allocated to Huddersfield Bus at Waterloo Thanks for that, it answers a few sightings I've had including the identity of the second cream Solo that appeared. Another Solo that's in use with K-Line is plain white MX06BTE. Noted today working the free town bus in Huddersfield. davidsnonrailwaypics.fotopic.net/p63116371.htmlI recognized the number plate and a quick search revealed its been in use with a number of operators including CumfyBus on the Fylde Villager services between Preston-Blackpool/Fleetwood. There seems to be more interaction between K-Line and Hudd Bus/CentreBus vehicles & services now. A Hudd Bus Solo is working the 241, due to the normal Solo working the 343, and, as mentioned above, K-Lines Centro is now based at Waterloo and carries its 3 digit CentreBus fleet number. David.c

From seeing various photos, when did they start to retrofit LED screens to K Line buses? It would have been about 2 weeks ago. I noted the Centro and a Solo in the Hudd Bus depot at Waterloo one morning, then later in the day they were back in service with their LED displays. As far as I am aware the Centro and a couple of Solos have been fitted. Does any one know which buses have moved to new routes for K-Line? I've noted the Solo that use to work the 241 to Lepton now works out to Halifax and the Cream Solo that arrived recently hasn't been around Huddersfield this last week (that I know of) David.c

Just had a look at the Flicker picture of the K&D Olympian. I've searched google earth for the location "Chapel Lane Layc o c k" and there's what looks to be a bus at the junction.
Nothing special but it was interesting to find since your talking about it, it gives an idea of the location in relation to Keighley. I don't know the area to well.

At home in Bamber Bridge, Preston, Ive got the 150/151 and the 113 passing out side. At the end of the road there's the 112 (Holmeswood), 117 (Fishwick), 125/126 and peak journeys of the X61. All Stagecoach unless stated.
Here in West Yorkshire am at the end of the First Bus 398/399 Storthes Hall - Hudd Uni route. At the bottom of the hill on the main road there's the Huddersfield Bus collection of 80-84 routes, while at the top of the hill there's the Huddersfield Bus 341 route.

Another two Darts have appeared at Huddersfield depot now. A dual door pointer Dart and what looked to have been a Marshal bodied Dart, both in CentreBus livery. There is also another Cream Solo, noted at the depot after seeing the first one in service with K-Line.
East Lancs P131PPV is now in service with Huddersfield Bus, seen working the 231 Wakefield-Huddersfield yesterday.

We get Geminis on the 398/399 on a regular basis now, along with ALX400s and Royales and the occasional odd ball bus. Some one beet me to it with Stagecoach Enviro400 YN59EAG on a Megabusplus service off Huddersfield this morning: davidsnonrailwaypics.fotopic.net/p62960633.htmlNot a great shot and the display hasn't come out in the picture, but having waited half an hour for it to leave it will do David.c

One of K-Lines free town bus Solos noted at the Huddersfield Bus depot yesterday morning. As a result K-Line liveried Solo MX04VMG was working the FTB, making use of its new LED display.
This is one of two Solos noted with LED displays so far, the other being MX03YCZ, along with the Plaxton Centro YE06HRX.

First Huddersfield had Dart 60934, R722HHK, working the 398 to Storthes Hall.
K-Lines Centro and one of their Solos noted at the Huddersfield Bus depot yesterday morning at Waterloo. Both noted again later in the day in service with orange LED displays, nether working though so not likely to have been programed yet.

If Transdev are the successful bidders they are unlikely to meet with problems with the Competition Commission. Their purchase of Blackburn was cleared. Also, Transdev run just one route into Preston (the 152 from Burnley) and never competed with Preston Bus. As Stagecoach did compete with Preston Bus they were perceived to have made the sell-out inevitable. Transdev operate two routes into Preston. The 152 from Burnley and the 280/X80 from Skipton. But still nether are in competition with Preston Bus. Would Transdev be a welcome operator to Preston? When they took on Blackburn Transport they did a good job in re-launching the bus network with the SpotOn branding but since then their standards have dropped and services levels decreased. Ok its more to do with the low level of funding from the Government for the free travel for the over 60s but its still causing them to reduce their bus network and service levels. Would they really want to take on more work when they are having a hard time of keeping what they have already going? It was reported that Arriva were willing to purchase Preston Bus but were deterred by the ongoing competition by Stagecoach. This in itself makes a mockery of deregulation. Indeed that was the problem with the original sale of Preston Bus, no one wanted to take it on as they would have ended up in competition with Stagecoach. And surely this problem will arise again with the forced sale of Preston Bus by the CC. David.c

A nasty accident in the Battersea area of London today has seen a bus topple into its side. The bus swerved to avoid a lorry which looks to have been coming out of a side street into the road. Full story here: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8415726.stmNever nice to see things like this happen. The bus involved is ALX400 9823, LG52XZA, from the former Travel London fleet, now part of the NedRailways "Abellio" operation. David.c

Both the c2c and East Anglia franchises come to an end in 2011 so they could lose both in the same year
National Express are certainly making the headlines at the moment. I don't think anyone can be certain about their future.

Saw Huddersfield FreeTownBus "Pinky" YJ56WFH in bradley today looked as though all FTB branding had been removed the bus was parked at the side of the road with no desty on.Could this mean new FreeTownBuses for Huddersfield? Does this mean that Dewsbury, since it's still in Kirklees, will be getting the ex-Huddersfield ones while Huddersfield recieve the new ones "Pinky" YJ56WFH was in service today round Huddersfield with full FTB branding on the passenger side. I didnt see the drivers side, norr did I see what the other bus was on the route. Huddersfield Bus had a Solo working the full 262 route to Dewsbury this afternoon. David.c

First Huddersfield had Wright Renown 61288 [S808RWG] working the 398 Uni-Storthes Hall service in place of the normal double decker this morning.
Also had the odd sight of both buses on the 398 route at uni at the same time (on a 30 min frequency) due to the drivers taking an age to change buses up at the bus station.
