But bus operators don't do enough work to promote that using the bus is not how the media portrays it to be. And until they do, motorists won't be prepared to give up their car. Its all about personal choice to me. If i want to use my car or motorbike, i will. If i want to catch a bus or train, i will. I work on a 5 over 7 basis which includes sats & suns, involving early morning starts at stupid o clock and i certainly wouldnt expect any bus operator to run a service either commercially or tendered at the times i would need public transport. Im afraid no amount of media spin could alter that. On my days off when i like to go for a pint the car is parked up and i use the buses and trains then and it works very well for me, but as a commuter, public transport dosent work for me.

Sorry i meant month for both.
The car insurance is £1,300 p.a on a 1L Corsa. £10 petrol a week.
Day tickets would cost me £4 a day x 250 work days = £1,000 add in the pain in the backside of getting up an hour early and getting home an hour later than i would in the car. The car is far better and better value for money.

Dont be held to ransom when paying your 1st years insurance premium, shop around, use internet search engines etc. Better still put an experienced named driver on your policy this should reduce your premium a little. Most insurers give a reasonable discount if you do the pass-plus as well. Good luck.

I cant see HBC wanting it, If K-Line have dropped it. HJC made a right pigs ear of it last time, How can you run a commercial service using double-deckers, when on most boards youd struggle to fill a mini-bus?. I think Stotts would have to be favourite to take on this route, especially if its tendered. The only problem being, Stotts may possibly have to aquire more buses to take on more services. basically this area has selfish pig ignorant residents who don't like public transport, it doesn't matter who get's the 357 and how they operate it, these shameful people just won't use it. If the government want to show their true environmental credentials they should make car use in town and city centres illegal. I don't know how this authour can say this about the users of the 357 or the residents of Quarmby. A high proportion of the users of this service are elderly, do not drive and have travel subsidised though a National Bus Pass. It carries more passengers than the Meltham service but takes less money! It is claimed tha Metro cannot aford to subsidise the service.

Getting the thread back to changes and away from cars, there are significant changes to the Coastliner services from the 10th October, to coincide with the winter timetable (as mentioned in the September Changing Times booklet). *The X40 and X43 services are withdrawn. *Reduction on number of 840 journeys serving Kirkby Misperton. *Monday-Saturday daytime journeys on services 840, 843, 845 will now run direct between York and Leeds (like the recently withdrawn X64 service), not calling at Companthorpe or Woodlands Estate in Tadcaster, which is still served half-hourly by the 844. *Early morning and evening/Sunday journeys on all services will serve Companthorpe and Woodlands Estate as normal. *844 will now serve Heworth village. *743 morning journeys will now start from Malton at 6.12am and 6.27am and will run into Leeds via The Headrow, Park Row, Boar Lane and terminate at the bus station (similar to morning journeys on the 36). www.wymetro.com/NR/rdonlyres/C5306F80-9775-4B54-BF91-D8E4CA4A29B7/0/CT54_infoleaflet.pdf

Route and Times: 18/18A/19/19A Pure speculation, but they could be splitting the 18/18A route as it is a long route. The 18/18A could do Leeds-Tinshill/Ireland wood and the 19/19A the Leeds-Colton/Garforth route. Perhaps? Otherwise not a clue.

Here is the registration in full for the 18/18A/19/19A.
PB0000815/504 - FIRST WEST YORKSHIRE LTD, HUNSLET PARK DEPOT, DONISTHORPE STREET, LEEDS, LS10 1PL Variation Accepted: Operating between Tinshill or Ireland Wood and Garforth given service number 18/18A/19/19A effective from 31-Oct-2010. To amend Route and Timetable.
I can imagine there being a bit of speculation with this until the details come out next month. Splitting the route could be feasible. Infirmary Street being the terminus for Garforth and Corn Exchange for Tinshill/Ireland Wood.
Another thoery is re-routing a 18 and a 18A (half-hourly combined) via Cross Gates, replacing the withdrawn link between Cross Gates and Colton previously run by the 5A and 90, whilst giving Arriva a bit of competition on the 163/166 route.

My guess would be an attempt at making the services "simpler". Currently there are 4 route variations (18 daytime, 18 extension to Ninelands Lane, 18A daytime, 18A evening/Sunday via Templegate/Colton, or 5 route variations if you count the Thorpe Park buses!). In the past First have swapped and changed which route does what (indeed their current Overground map is wrong) so perhaps now there will be a separate service number allocated for each route variation?

18 - Sainsburys - Templegate - Ireland Wood 18A - Thorpe Park - Templegate - Ireland Wood 19 - Garforth - Thinshill 19A - Garforth - Thorpe Park - Thinshill
Obviously the Thorpe Park variations would be down to times etc but what Craig says seems feasable.
Not a chance of it extending to Crossgates. The 9 currently covers it and i doubt it'd happen without a tender.

The re-numbering of some 18/18A journeys does sound very plausible. Be it the Thorpe Park journeys or the evening and Sunday service or the early morning journeys.
19A - Ireland Wood-Leeds-Temple Gate-Colton-Garforth
Meanwhile, from VOSA today, a lot of timetable changes from First, mainly in Huddersfield and Bradford plus a couple each in Halifax and Leeds, although many are probably minor changes. Also, First's cancellation of the 652 and minibus services in Hebden Bridge and Todmorden, which is switching to Tyrer Bus:
*Route and Timetable: 57/59 (Stagecoach), 384/385 (Stotts) *Timetable: 51/55/X55, 90 (First), 91 (First), 181/182/183/185 (First), 184/185/189 (Arriva), 301/302, 306, 307, 308/312/313/314/316/X11, 321/324, 327, 342, 356, 358, 363, 370/371, 372, 387, 408/409/420/430, 576, 579 (First), 590/591/592/593/594, 606 (First)/607, 610/611/612, 616, 620/621, 622/623/625/626/627, 630, 636/637, 640/641 *Cancellation: 652 (First), A/B/C/D/E/F/G/H/I (First), T1/T2/T3/T4/T5/T6/T8 (First)

Wonder what changes are being made to the 652? OOOO the excitement levels have rose! Well since there is one pointless journey on the most pointless day of the week, i would imagine that they will not be routing it through otley anymore, as let's be honest who's going to be going to Bradford, at that time of morning on a Saturday. Monday to Friday may be a different story.

The excitement levels have been quickly dashed. The details of the 652 have changed and the 652 is now being withdrawn (previous post now changed). Just the 653 Saturday morning journeys and the 650 Sunday daytime service left for First's Bradford to Wharfedale area routes.
PB0000815/261 - FIRST WEST YORKSHIRE LTD, HUNSLET PARK DEPOT, DONISTHORPE STREET, LEEDS, LS10 1PL Cancellation Accepted: Operating between Bradford Interchange and Ilkley Bus Station given service number 652 effective from 31-Oct-2010.
The cancellation for the Todmorden and Hebden Bridge minibus services have also appeared from First today, with the services passing onto Tyrer Bus.

Expect the withdrawl of the stupid Godson's route from Micklefield to St. James' which has seen less than double figures worth of passengers in the 3 weeks its been running. I know why and all, the government come up with these good ideas in principal then don't do the real work of making them successful by simply promoting them! No doubt about it there are many people in East Leeds that would find this bus useful. It's also a great way of telling the won't be employed or can't be bothered with education that there is one less excuse for them not to find work.

Does anyone have any idea what the multitude of changes in Huddersfield / Bradford / Halifax may be?
Changes to tendered journeys or a more drastic network revision?

A little sneak preview onto the times for the Coastliner services when they change next month can be found on the Traveline Journey Planner. Journey times to/from Leeds will now be 10 minutes quicker on the 840, 843 and 845 during the day. The departure times from Leeds are still the same (00, 15, 30, 45) but the 843 leaves at 15 instead of 45. Arrival times at Leeds same on 840, 843, 845 - leaves York 10 minutes later.
Summary:
Peak times: *743 - The 0715 journey from Stonebow now leaves Malton at 0637 and runs 3 minutes earlier to Leeds Park Row before continuing to bus station arriving at 0843 - runs as Coastliner service. Only one journey to Leeds mentioned, so can only assume 0655 journey withdrawn. Afternoon journeys remain unchanged and run as Transdev York. *843 (peak times) - The two journeys from Malton at 0612 and 0627 that was listed in the Changing Times booklet as a 743, will run as a 843. These journeys run via Park Row, Boar Lane to Leeds bus station.
Daytime: *840 now leaves Leeds at 45 instead of 15 (30 mins earlier/later) and arrives at Thornton-le-Dale at 04 instead of 44 (20 mins later/40 mins earlier) and at Whitby at 02 instead of 42 (20 mins later/40 mins earlier). 840 leaves Whitby and Thornton-le-Dale 10 minutes later but arrives at Leeds at same times (28) *843 now leaves Leeds at 15 instead of 45 (30 mins earlier/later) and arrives at Scarborough at 00 instead of 40 (20 mins later/40 mins earlier). 843 leaves Scarborough at 11 instead of 01 (10 minutes later) but arrives at Leeds at same times (58) *844: runs 5 minutes later to Leeds, unchanged from Leeds. *845: Services retimed to run earlier or later. Some journeys withdrawn. The 0830 journey from Leeds does serve the estates in Tadcaster and Companthorpe.
Evenings: *843 - Runs hourly from Leeds at 1850, 1955, 2055, 2155 and 2255 with the last journey running direct between Seacroft, Tadcaster and York. Journeys to Leeds run 15 minutes later throughout.
