Probably required tbf. From Tad to the Research Ctr, it was always quite full. Good move imo.

This has popped up today. Wonder if another new operator is taking over this service (such as TLC or Geldards) or if the link to Leeds is going to be restored

I reckon it will be restored & the 508 rerouted back to it's old route...

I reckon it will be restored & the 508 rerouted back to it's old route... Or the fact that patronage is extremely low so Metro don't think it's value for money to continue subsidising the service under the current budget constraints. Plus, you could catch the 508/16 in the Farsley area and easily change to the 72 at Dawsons Corner or by Bramley bus depot.

I reckon it will be restored & the 508 rerouted back to it's old route... Or the problem was it only carried fresh air in it's current form and First have given no indication they have any intention of changing the routeing of the 508 so there is no likelihood of any improvement in the forseable future.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was withdrawn, although I could see the people of Farsley complaining about the loss of a direct link to Bradford. If Centrebus were going to change the 15 back to the old route or extend it along a new route, then they would have put a variation notice up rather than a cancellation.

Will this be transferred to Huddersfield Bus, go up for a tender or will it be the end of the 357?

I don't this is a tendered route. As of 29 August K-Line are diverting the 900/901 via Laund Road and Crosland Road for 5 journeys a day. I wonder if this is a total cancellation of the route or only part of the route and the 357 reverting to running between Huddersfield and Quarmby only.

HJC to the rescue again like last time? That was why it was withdrawn last time, because K-Line were getting the most custom.

I'm sure if no-one takes up the route commercially, then Metro will put it up for tender. Would imagine residents of Quarmby complaining about losing the direct link to Huddersfield, saying the 368 isn't sastifactory enough.
If the 357 is going to continue, I can't see First running it, unless Metro offer it as a tender. Wouldn't be surprised if it gets transferred over to Huddersfield Bus, like the 241/242 did. Or perhaps, it may be one for Stotts or HJC, if they can get some more buses on board first.

I cant see HBC wanting it, If K-Line have dropped it. HJC made a right pigs ear of it last time, How can you run a commercial service using double-deckers, when on most boards youd struggle to fill a mini-bus?. I think Stotts would have to be favourite to take on this route, especially if its tendered. The only problem being, Stotts may possibly have to aquire more buses to take on more services.

They offered customers a reliable half hourly service in conjunction to a point with K line, Both companies had clean vehicles with generally good drivers (I know some drivers slipped the net when it came to God giving them the think that makes us friendly). These conditions would be enough to persuade most people to ditch the car when they could and use the bus instead but oh no, not in the case of those who live on the 357 route. Their are enough residents to make a half hourly service work but the many potential customers available still fancied clogging up Huddersfield Town Centre with their cars, basically this area has selfish pig ignorant residents who don't like public transport, it doesn't matter who get's the 357 and how they operate it, these shameful people just won't use it. If the government want to show their true environmental credentials they should make car use in town and city centres illegal.

What the hell is shamefull about exercising your right to using your car when you want?. It costs us an arm & a leg to tax/insure our vehicles. Its pillocks like you who are the selfish ignorant ones, coming out with thoughtless/brainless statements like you have. You may or may not have your own car, but youre bang out of order trying to dictate how others should use theirs. Anyway id like to know your credentials for judging Quarmby/Paddock residents on this route Do you live there?.

I'd say bus operators need to work a lot harder to encourage motorists to give up their cars. Although not all issues they can be responsible for, such as delays caused by inconsiderate parking etc, they simply aren't enough services running on evenings or Sundays. The car has many benefits - you can travel when YOU want and not at a time the bus company dictates to you, they are no rude/bad drivers to contend with, no smelly passengers, no chav playing music at the back, no uncertainty as to whether the bus has gone early/not going to operate, no waiting for time. Using Keighley & District as an example (as they are the ones I use the most) I'd struggle to find 1 reason to recommend them to a car owner as their service offering comes nowhere near to the convenience of owning a car.

I gave up my car in 1998 and never looked back! I use the bus or train at all times.
Let's face it, there are a lot of people out there who wouldn't use the bus if it picked them up at their garden gate because they have been brainwashed by the media who seem hell bent on giving negative reports on public transport in general.
One of my other "interests" as a CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) member is visiting various public houses all over West Yorkshire, always by public transport. I never have a problem no matter how remote the location, and with the technology available now such as 'Your Next Bus' or the equivalent 'Traintracker' on the railway it's a breeze!
I use buses late at night and have never felt intimidated or experienced unruly behaviour which is the perception that non bus users have.
My cousin who lives in Wetherby and usually drives into Leeds had her car off the road recently and asked me what time the 'peasant wagon' left Wetherby for Leeds on a morning.
She duly caught the X98 and was pleasantly surprised by the fact the bus was full of what appeared to be 'normal' people. And no parking fees in the centre either!
This is the major hurdle to overcome, the perception that using public transport is a no no, usually fuelled by wildly exaggerated negative reports in the media.

But bus operators don't do enough work to promote that using the bus is not how the media portrays it to be. And until they do, motorists won't be prepared to give up their car.

It will be a long walk from the Brewers Pride at Ossett after 14:24 unless you go on a Saturday Afternoon or you can get a lift from a Star Travel driver. On the plus side plenty of Trains to see but no Station.............

My £65 a week Metro card vs £70 a week Car insurance & Tax = Me on the car. End of. How much would return or weekly tickets over your route cost in total if you don't mind me asking? (I know it's more, I'm not trying to sway you)
