Yorkshire Buses just announced its Service 29 changes from 24th July 2023. From Monday 24th July 2023 we are making some changes to service 29, it will still continue to run hourly but will be extended at both ends of it's current route buses will now serve The White Rose Centre travelling direct from Hunslet along Dewsbury Road. Leaving The White Rose buses will serve Hunslet Shopping Centre and then along existing route via Leeds Dock, Leeds Bus Station City Centre, The Universities, Hyde Park the service will then continue to Headingley, West Park, Old Otley Road, Tinshill Lane, Horsforth Station and Horsforth The Green. Egad, a service along the lower end of Otley Old Road again! To the best of my recollection, that hasn't been served since deregulation day, when the 4 to Ireland Wood was withdrawn

Is there any point of even doing the BSIP? After all these cuts it is going to be extremely difficult to sustain the combined frequency of the 501+503 at a 7-8 minute frequency. That isn't even including the X3, which hasn't had the frequency revealed. I can't comprehend how it will work when the rest of the network is running at a frequency two times less frequent or worse. With night and morning journeys being heavily reduced on tones of routes, how are they expecting journeys on the 501/503 to be sustainable?

And the 780 used to in the 90s I think?

Haven't you noticed 501/3 have had very minor cuts this year as they are supposed to be running between 5am and 11pm, which it does now.

If that's indeed the case, it seems unwise to sacrifice the efficiency of the entire bus network for these supposed improvements. Without synchronizing the frequencies and accommodating early and late journeys across the entire network, the 501/3 and X3 routes won't receive enough passenger flow to ensure their sustainability. It's important to remember that the funding is only available for three years, and the responsibility for financial risk will fall on the operators in the subsequent two years Additionally, it is highly unlikely that the towns along this bus route, Elland and West Vale, will be able to sustain these journeys on their own. Relying solely on the local population of these towns would likely result in insufficient ridership to support the proposed improvements. In my opinion, the BSIP funding requires a thorough reassessment, and it would be more appropriate to allocate it to a bus operator that is more willing to collaborate. The current dominance of First Bus in the area needs to be addressed and undone, as their actions seem to indicate a lack of willingness to cooperate and prioritize the needs of the entire network.

First do seem to be going wild on cutting services. They have made some silly cuts. The 508 was already sustainable and in fact now has less passengers using it than before. Passengers have dropped significantly since the frequency and route change. Similarly, First cut the 586 from every hour to every 2 hours and I have noticed a few times when I ride it, as I am local to Sowerby Bridge, it often has less passengers now. Also a factor which has caused an issue to this is 587 changing operators making it harder for First and Team Pennine to come together to make a joint frequency of half hourly between both services. Buses on 587 are often leaving 10 minutes behind or in front of 586 causing issues. The hourly frequency also worked well as during the evening it coordinated with the 579 really well by leaving a 25-35 minute gap in between.

Hopefully within 3 Years we will be close to franchising being introduced so the funding running out should be less of an issue. The 501/3 will be less at risk as I think if a decent amount of model shift happens there is enough of a population en-route to make them viable, plus an improved 501 should help fill in the cuts to the Huddersfield - Lindley corridor. The X3 will be the one that will probably rely more on people connecting to/from other routes, but its always been questionable over the viability of a Huddersfield - Halifax express route. If that's indeed the case, it seems unwise to sacrifice the efficiency of the entire bus network for these supposed improvements. What you've described is a simple case of deaths by 1000 cuts. Arriva seemed to be the first to use it around 15 years ago & others in the past 5-10 years have also picked it up. If there's a route you don't want to operate but you don't want another operator to pick up (as that could risk them going after the more profitable routes as well) you just keep cutting & cutting hoping it reduces passenger numbers to a point where another company wouldn't want to pick it up.

What I am saying is 586 and 587 should be put under the same contract so when operators changed on one it is both of them that goes to that operator.

An earlier correspondent here said 'Hopefully within three years we will be close to franchising being introduced so the funding running out will be less of a problem'. How many times recently has Sadiq Khan pressed central government for additional money (collected from taxpayers) and then oversaw service cuts to comply? When Yorkshire Rider was privatized did the receipts go to the local authority who now wishes to take back control? I remember the euphoria from some when British Rail was dismembered - not quite a success was it!

However, 586 Monday to Friday daytime is run commercially, so unless First got the contracts, you'd still have 2 operators.

I wonder if the 165 will interwork with the 140 during the day, as 164 interworks with the 141 at the moment.

New 36 timetable from Monday ostensibly for the closure of Harewood Bridge but the non bridge closure timetable is equally reduced to a core of every 15 minutes Harrogate-Leeds. That presumably should stop the cancellations and coinsides with the increased X6 service. images.transdevbus.co.uk/downloads/230719%2036-1.pdf

A shame that all the arrival times at Leeds bus station are wrong (including times for some buses that don't go there) Monday to Friday for the open bridge times. Have tweeted them re that, should be +15 on top of the Moortown time. Presumably should see the end of fleet liveried vehicles on the 36. Going by the tracking 18 year old 3614, albeit significantly rebuild since, expired in Chapel Allerton on Wednesday and hasn't worked since.

That presumably should stop the cancellations and coinsides with the increased X6 service. ... Presumably should see the end of fleet liveried vehicles on the 36. Reducing the frequency between Harrogate and Leeds will save a couple of buses. The diversion will add 15 minutes to each journey, so for 4 buses per hour that will need an extra two buses. So the overall fleet requirement looks like it's the same, meaning that there won't be any significant change to the reliability or availability of buses.

But when Harewood Bridge is open there will be a reduction in the PVR ie Monday and Tuesday next week and Friday 25th August onwards (assuming the works are completed on time)
