I think passengers get used to their local routes however they're set up - provided there's an understandable timetable in the first place. For years, back in the 80s, my local route was served by 74/5/6/7, but the 74 and 77 only ran outbound from town with the 75 and 76 running inbound - everyone seemed to cope fine with this. Having experience of circulars which have different numbers in each direction, and ones which change number half way round, I think I prefer the former - you soon get used to which one goes which way!

A better layout would have been to make the 510 terminate at Mixenden all day, all week. Then to make the services 511/512/513/514.
Services 511 and 513 will still keep the clockwise set up and with service 513 serving Wainstalls as of now.
Services 512 and 514 can be the anti clockwise set up and then have the 514 run via Wainstalls once per hour and have the 512 run once per hour as well.

Would that not cause more confusion? Rarely on do circulars do most customers have a choice of either circuit - for most one leg is most convenient so giving different numbers will be confusing. In this example most customers on the 509 will now need to catch a 510 on the way back. Hardly simple. It would have made more sense to have three numbers eg 510/511 to Mixenden via Wheatley and 512 via Pellon - buses could change number in Mixenden. Far clearer than what went before and what’s there now. If the buses in both directions have the same number it's easy to catch the wrong one out of town and go the long way round. Mixenden used to have 3 different circulars under Metro and First, using 6 numbers. When I used to work for an Insurance Company in Halifax (1997 - 2001), I sometimes had to go to their Hebble Brook site at Mixenden. Now, to get there by bus, I either caught 511 Mixenden (clockwise) or 513 Mixenden (anti clockwise) and got off virtually opposite work, or if I caught 512 Mixenden (clockwise) or 514 Mixenden (anti clockwise) would get off at terminus and walk down to Hebble Brook

I wonder if that's the same insurance company at Hebble Brook I worked for in 1997. Colonnade at Hebble Brook Provident Insurance in Halifax I wasn't seriously wondering. I was there for 6 weeks. They employed me to do some work that didn't actually need doing (data entry for data that didn't turn up). So I ended up doing various things (mostly still data entry but not what they'd expected). Getting there by bus sounds very familiar, 2 circular services that stopped very close and 2 that were a bit further away.

I think there needs to be a major tidy up of timetables. Look at the evening Monday - Friday service on the 501/503, completely different to the weekend one now which has been long standing and worked. Random odd minutes are a serious gripe and has been proven to lose passenger numbers compared to a traditional clockface format at proper block minutes.
