My experience of Unite isn`t a happy one in the printing industry, indeed most of it shutdown last month. These strikes are causing great upset to the travelling public and giving ammunition to Metro to push through Quality Contracts.

Mondays 6 hour strike isn't as straight forward as it might appear.
First won't be accepting partial performance by a driver on the day so if a driver who's shift starts between 04:00 - 10:00 chooses to strike then they won't be allowed to resume work at 10am. Drivers are being invited to work their FULL shift on Monday if they wish. Anybody who's shift starts after 10am will of course be expected to work as normal.

They will have worded it as 38 pence to make it sound small. Multiply that by hours weeks months and the figure it comes out with would sound large and wouldn't get the public support.

Lots of confusion and 2 and 2 equals 8 here.
This is nothing to do with the strike, this is replacing the contract formerly held by Yorkshire Tiger.
It's also very unlikely to be anything to do with Metro.
First don't run buses to the cricket.

I thought this would have had summat to do with first being on strike being an emergency contract to transdev as they may not have enough buses and drivers to run this? It's also very unlikely to be anything to do with Metro. First don't run buses to the cricket. Sent from my D6603 using proboards

First Leeds have tweeted (and Metro retweeted) that Monday's strike has been called off.

First seem to be having problems across the country with strikes, I know Manchester and Dorset have suffered with industrial action. A 7 day strike would be a public relations disaster for both management and the drivers, I assume the 24th has been chosen to wreck the new service changes coming into affect on that day. We need Transdev or Arriva to register commercial services on the A660 and bring back the SuperTram project for this route.

Sounds like the sort of thing that would rumble around the rumour mill, especially considering Metro kept having to quash rumours that First were on strike every Monday each week.

Heard from word of mouth source a 7day strike planned from 24th July.. it could happen as it just happened recently in Dorset area. If That does happen arriva could register 213 to do its old route that week let alone add extra full or partial trips on 110/117/163/166/167/168/202/203/209/219/220/221/222/223/225/252/254/255/402/410/444/446/481/X25/X60 and I'm sure Connexions wouldn't mind a full week on X98.

I presume Arriva have got spare buses and drivers to run extra trips on that very long list of services then?

The trains are already rammed though so doubt they would have much capacity available, especially as with the current 333 shortage the smaller 321/2s are covering some services. At least if First were on strike for a week it would coincide with school holidays so other operators have a better chance of having spare resources to provide additional services

Tbh strikes nowadays are nowhere near as effective as they once were. I remember the near 6 week bus strike in Leeds in 1978, yep that was 6 whole weeks with no buses whatsoever, the PTE buses from Bradford, Halifax etc would terminate at the Leeds boundary and return to their home town/city. Picket lines were at other strategic locations such as Thwaite Gate so even West Riding wouldn't go any further into the city centre. Think only West Yorkshire RCC were the only Company to venture into Leeds centre for that 6 week period.
Now that's what you call a strike!

I remember the 6-week strike very well, too. I was at uni at the time and remember many of my friends having to walk in from as far out as Bodington. West Yorkshire routes along the A660 didn't carry local traffic anyway inside the ring road (setting down only on the way in, picking up only on the way out) so although they continued to run to/from Vicar Lane were not a useable alternative. (Today's X84 is the only relic of those routes, having the same stopping conditions and being the only service to observe what few erstwhile West Yorkshire stops remain.)

Bit late to post this, but last Friday's strike a Gemini was working service 5, I don't know if this happened the other strike days. Has there been a change of heart about working double deckers under the low Neville Hill bridge?

Has there been a change of heart about working double deckers under the low Neville Hill bridge? Apparently 200 drivers decided to work on Friday, so many additional buses were put out. This one on 5s was only working the Citybus loop I believe.
