Connexions have tweeted in the last hour that they're covering the X98 tomorrow during the strike. Will they be accepting First tickets?

Yeah, my street seemed eerily quiet for a Monday morning without the roar of Volvo B7s on 40, 19/19A and 85!

Makes me laugh the amount of people slagging bus drivers off on the Facebook sites over the strike yesterday if doctors can go on strike etc buses are still a public service so why not ??

Quite simple really, over the last 36 and a bit years I have seen this job go downhill. Remember the days when I started, quite a bit of respect was shown to the bus CREW, not as much as the train driver but it was there. Nowadays, lest we all forget, that driver sat at the front is trying to do the jobs of two people, with traffic conditions far worse than when I started in 1979. As regards that I will admit to being one who put his hands up at every OPO conversion to take one and a quarter wages for two men's jobs, without much thought for anyone else. Although we carry the worlds most valuable loads on a daily basis, it is now seen by many as a bargain basement job that really is not important, and the bloke sat at the front is a complete to****. However, because of everybody's 'love affair' with the NHS, Doctors and Nurses are, rightly in my opinion, seen as top, vital employees and are placed at the pinnacle of the employment ladder. BTW Mark, the days when the industry was a public service ended in the 80's, when I ceased to be a Public Service Vehicle Driver, and became a Passenger Carrying Vehicle Driver. Having said all that, it makes me chuckle too when I see some of the comments from people who just want to be famous on twitter etc for a few seconds, because you can guarantee they have not looked in to what they are talking about, and just want to do the norm for this day and age, and slag somebody off.

Leeds faces second drivers’ strike By Mel Holley snip.ly/utjx6#http://www.route-one.net/articles/Employees/Leeds_faces_second_drivers__strikeThe Unite union has confirmed it is planning another one-day strike on Monday, 20 June, at First in Leeds over pay. It follows a one-day strike on Monday (13 June), involving around 1,000 staff at First’s Bramley and Hunslet Park depots. Although 40 routes didn’t run, First managed to operate a reduced timetable on some key corridors. Unite is seeking an immediate pay rise of 36p per hour. First is offering a staggered increase of 16p per hour now and a further 20p per hour from January 2017. First Leeds MD Paul Matthews says he was “very disappointed” that Monday’s strike was held.

Maybe a potential new route for connexions. I suppose this would give them the opportunity to see first hand loadings and revenue.

And in Craigs logic they do not introduce competing service but ones that provide a connexion that did not previously exist (which just happens to be a competing service). So expect a Wetherby-White Rose Centre service instead!

No different to the 'First' V reg Scanias which used to be used on 38 fairly frequently and which can still be seen almost daily on the 91.

Can somebody explain to me please how Connexion buses were able to immediately start running the X98 Leeds yo Wetherby service last Monday. I am aware that it was helping Firstbus out, but does this mean that they can start on any route?

I am aware that it was helping Firstbus out, but does this mean that they can start on any route? I don't know what basis they were running it on. If they were on hire to First then legally First were running it. If they weren't charging fares then there's no need to register. Otherwise they'd have to apply to the Traffic Commissioner but I saw no evidence of this.
