A couple of photos of it at Eureka on my flickr. www.flickr.com/photos/clifton009/I think it's a better option than the trollybus scheme, but it's still expensive and will need a few layout / design tweaks internally for it to be practical in WY. There isn't much room in the lower deck with a narrow aisle and not many seats due to it having 2 staircases and 3 sets of doors.

Plenty of seats upstairs and nice to have the two sets of stairs, in use proving a couple of demo rides at Keighley Bus Museums AEC Regent day, must say I still prefer a Regent V, although a set of Boris doors at the rear would make a nice addition

Personally I think a dual door Enviro 400H would be a better and more affordable option than a fleet of Borismasters.

Tri-axles personaly I think these would be better on distance routes such as the X6 and X84 and the inter-urbans routes like the 72 and 363/X63

As it was the Manager at Glasgow (Mark Savelli) that pushed to be allowed the E500s, rather than a group decision to buy a batch to trial. The same reason why Glasgow started to accumulate the surplus Artics from around the group, as Mark saw the advantages of large vehicles. Maybe if he had still been in charge when the Leeds & Manchester ones came off service, they may have headed North, rather than to scrap.

Would love to see AY with a fleet of Borismasters. If only to replace the ageing E400's at Castleford. They still keep clocking up the miles, but they've had their day now i think. The sooner they get rid, the better. Would be hilarious to see a Borismaster in AY livery pull up at my stop on the '150' to Wakey, instead of a 'Tempo', 'Pulsar', or one o them dreadful E400's.

This is dependant on Metro going with ABOWY's partnership idea and dropping the Quality Contract scheme. That will only happen if inter-operator ticket acceptance is vastly improved from the current situation in the partnership's agreement

They are still attaching a lot of things to this proposal that has nothing to do with the New Routemaster and could be implemented anyway, or in some cases is being implemented anyway.
Smart ticketing - is happening anyway
Free WIFI - could be implemented now on existing buses, might explain why they are holding back on this
Faster boarding through any door - a fare evaders paradise, as they found in London. Plus how many bus stops can accommodate safe boarding at any door. It'll cost a lot to ensure every bus stop in Leeds has no obstructions, even by the shelter itself never mind other street furniture
Cleaner journeys - obviously trying to play on the general thought that all buses are old and smelly that many people believe. They could buy hybrids now if they wanted, not sure battery buses will be able to do 18 hours heavy service any time soon. The Versas in York have fairly light duties and need charging in the middle of the day.

I think metro should push with the quality contracts. It means better service for us the customer as the companies then become publicly liable and have to answer to a governing authority. Simpler and easier ticketing. And all the other stuff they promise will come eventually anyways.

My sentiments exactly, if the trolleybus scheme fails First go back into being the sole transport provider for much of Leeds and any innovation will fall by the wayside. They are running scared of NGT!!!!! It is worth remembering that Leeds had a vast fleet of two door buses for over twenty years, the A660 corridor has all the stops adapted for artics with two doors already. First could invest in two door hybrids now for route one but they won`t. I don`t trust their intentions and neither do most of the general public.

I don't think the NBFL or the trolleybus are the ideal solution. The NBFL if used would need are fair few mods and is expensive, the NGT is far to expensive and will benefit too small an area and it is restricted / inflexible due to the nature of a trolleybus system. When they are talking about spending that amount of money it needs to benefit a much larger part of the area, it's too much to spend on one part of Leeds.

The New Bus for West Yorkshire will be out on display in Huddersfield next week. It'll be outside the library on Monday (27 October) between 10am and 4pm and then at St George's Square the following day at the same times.

I'm 6 foot 4 and I've sat on the 24,38 and 10 in London upstairs. Mind you I did have to crouch. Was like a Low height Leyland Olympian used both front and rear stair wells. The front is easier to get on.
