I made it to Bradford today so rode 19002 on route 72 from Bradford to Bradford Moor. Its refurbishment with grey seats and dark pink poles reminded me of their newest double-deckers such as Geminis at Leeds. I did see a Gemini (in 1997-2010 livery) on route 72 so maybe a handful more StreetCars need refurbishing as spares.

They have always had their pink hand poles, only thing they have done inside is put the e-leather trim on the plastic seats, done nothing to make them more comfortable.

I found them really comfy when I rode on one last month. Lovely ride it was Yeh, the ride seemed reasonably smooth, even when it went round corners in Bradford. As they are unique, I may ride one again next time I come to Leeds. At least I have satisfied my curiosity by riding one in Bradford yesterday!

Little while back I was coming home on one, and the conductor said to the person next to me: "The reason they keep putting these leather seats on is cos people keep peeing on 'em." Beautiful.

Lovely ride it was Don't know what seats you were sat on, either that or you didn't have your back against them because the bottom bits aren't too bad compared to some buses. 36 seats are proper seats how they all should be like. Hong Kong have big thick seats as their standard seats, don't see why it cant be the same in uk.

I too found them comfy though.

Nope. Wouldn't be too fussed. People who uses buses would probably want them to be somewhat more comfortable, but if it meant a fare rise, they would soon go away.

If you get every part of your bus service right enough people will accept higher fares than when the bus service is poor. But whatever the product soem wil always complain about the cost. Me, I would go to Cafe Nero's and use the 36 rather than go to Costa's and use Centrebus. But if you get a council like Nottingham, or Brighton you get 36 quality on every route Metro have lot to answer for!

Costa for me too, providing there is no Cafe Nero nearby! I like the coffee strong! The 36 has been a great success but there is a guy in Hgte thinks it would be more successful with old buses and lower fares!

A lot of it depends on the route – both the nature of the route and the economics of the area it serves. Routes like The 36 and Coastliner, for example, run as long-distance services and serving relatively wealthy areas. This means that people are (more typically) both able and willing to pay more for a comfortable journey – the buses are being used for the kind of journeys that would often be made by train. For local services within West Yorkshire, (a) people are not making such long journeys, and (b) there's not as much money around so people are more likely to prefer a cheaper option.

I understand Yorkshire Traction tried to keep fares low by using older buses because the management were aware that the local people were not well off. YT went in to the red and sold to Stagecoach who got newer buses and improved servcies. I assume fares went up to pay for this. Bus use increased substantially with the new policy

Bus use increased substantially with the new policy It's dangerous to assume! It could well be that, being a larger group, Stagecoach were able to make greater efficiencies than Tracky had, or were able to cross-subsidise the division from elsewhere to get the investment up front ... this is speculation as well, but the obvious answer isn't always the right one!

I rode route 36 and 2 CentreBus MCVs last August Bank Holiday and enjoyed these rides. I don't ride CentreBus often though. I prefer Caffe Nero to Costa but my favourite in Leeds is Pret-a-Manger! As I said, I saw a Gemini on route 72 alongside FTRs last Saturday. While some more StreetCars may need refurbishing, I realise this might have been due to a conductor's absence.

Rumour has it routes 19/19a are to be moved from Bramley to Hunslet Park, this will free up space for the remaining 8 streetcars at Cherry Row to move back.

Stop reading Flickr and taking it as a rumour! Cant see it being either the 19 or the 50 like i said. Too much dead mileage. Can see it being the 5 myself.

To be honest, if the 19 or 50 was to be moved to Hunslet then the dead mileage may actually drop! Remember that the north end of the 19 used to operate from Kirkstall when it was the 74/75. Horsforth / Tinshill / Ireland Wood are not that much further really from Hunslet than from Bramley, and Seacroft / Garforth are closer.

Just done a quick check on google maps and they are relatively the same. We shall see in the very near future! Re-open cherry row and all these problems are solved!
