Typical of first, and indeed, Yorkshire Rider before, always have been d**n good at having launches in Leeds, forgetting that there are other places in the empire. As the FTR's are known in Leeds, it would surely have made more sense to also have a launch in Bradford ( the other end of the route, First!!) as the good burghers of Bradford will probably wonder what on earth this big blue slug is that is suddenly running in Bradford. More to the point, will they think, is this the same 72 I went to work on Last week or is it a new route. Shocking piece of PR if there is not a launch in Bradford really. Maybe they might do a launch in Bradford on Saturday. If I were in charge of First"s PR instead of having a event in a town or city centre to launched a new or updated route, I would arranged for a bus of the type that will be operating the service to tour the route stopping off at BOTH terminus's"s and key places en-route for a week before the service starts

There is a launch in Bradford on this Wednesday am. This is mainly aimed at councils and the media. This is not going to be a quiet launch
The ftrs will be highly visible once in service. The idea of good route brandingi s that it will be self promoting.

This has been used in the past to launch upgrades to routes by First

Just seing a few ftrs in old livery in Leeds today, does anyone know how the changes will take place with an apparent overnight change of livery? Apparently bus priority work will allow a frequency increase by Ester next year

Apparently bus priority work will allow a frequency increase by Ester next year Those 20 that have been refurbished and painted/branded are in store at Bramley and are 'ready to go'. Word is that the other 8 unrefurbished (purple) examples are going in to store.

Thanks So if at a future time they fgoe to every 5 mins, how many would they need? Think they made a mistake with the east gate stop. They should have moved to New York street opp Mecca bingo so passengers who are in the bus station would more likely to run there than halfway up east gate. Start and finish there and have east gate as the next stop along with buses going down vicar lane before new york street. What u all think?

Think its a case of not having the space to layover on NY Street. You'd probably end up getting on the bus and waiting time one stop later on Eastgate.

In that case think the X6 will generate more passengers as a result! Can't see people getting on up eastgate. Lets see if first puts on single decks for them hahaha. Great to see first putting the ftrs on something diff and not doing a fusion and keeping them off the road like the 1s

The X6 and the 72 are not aiming for the same market, you don't use the 72 either now or once it starts from Eastgate if you were going to somewhere where the X6 stops

At least 4 FTRs were parked up at cherry row today. Not sure which ones they were and couldn't see if any others were there. Cheers Andy

According to the new edition of the West Yorkshire Transport News, the 8 streetcars left have all been withdrawn. So not waiting for service frequency increases or owt. What a palaver, right bargain they were. So what's the odds for Hyperlink survival? And Leeds got the only five 59 reg Geminis from Bradford. Shame, I quite like the new 72, we always sit in the waltzer as we call it (by the second door)

As we all know, buses mag isn't always to be relied on, I doubt First would allow thousands to be spent on buying a bus only for it to be withdrawn 6 years later, I heard they are to be used as quick to dig out spares in case of breakdowns in Leeds, so far (afaik) their have been no breakdowns in Leeds so hence why they're still in the compound. The engines will be kept running and checked upon regularly because when the refurbished FTRs were stored at Bramley, I'd often see one parked up for an hour at least with the engine running, and one or two were seen out and about before the launch. Even if the FTRs prove very reliable, First will find some other use for these stored ones, say a frequency increase on routes elsewhere in the country where FTRs are used. These cost way too much for just 6 years use, even First will see that!
