Cummins engines in a Volvo?? First time since L401-405PWR. No. Stagecoach have already converted some B7TLs in Scotland to Cummins, using Smilies at Newcastle.

Smilies are doing 20 FTRs following refurbishment and then the remaining 19, should really improve performance.

It is significant that it is being transported on a lorry, rather than driven back to Leeds.

It is significant that it is being transported on a lorry, rather than driven back to Leeds. I think it's fairly standard these days with First, even for perfectly servicable normal buses.

"Hyperlink"! where do they get their ideas from! This will sadly come back to haunt them when they start breaking down. I love the colour scheme but I think the lower panel branding is poor, all the more ironic when you consider the 72 picture branding on the barbie livered Gemini`s looked rather nice. A shame really.

There seems to be a picture branding at the side rear. Doesn't say owt about leather seating or WIFI on board as yet.

This is an extract from the WYITA meeting on 4th October
Service 72 2.6. At the last PCC meeting, members were advised that from 28 October 2012 Street Car vehicles are to be deployed on to route 72 Leeds to Bradford. 2.7. The introduction of this service is on schedule. It has now been confirmed that free Wi-fi will be available on all of the buses from the introduction date and the service will be branded as “Hyperlink”. 2.8. First has also advised that the extension of service 4 to Thornbury Barracks/Highfield Green is likely to commence from January 2013.

I presume they'll get as many as possible ready for the launch date and put all the re-painted/refurbished out on service on the first day, making sure that any spares are in the old purple livery. Does anyone know how many buses are needed to cover the current Leeds ftr service 4 and what percentage of are still being fulfilled by ftrs? My home is served by service 4 and I occasionally travel on it. I've noticed a lot of very old vehicles recently (late 90s), which is rather disappointing when a high percentage of Hunslet Park workings now seem to be run by 12 plated Geminis! I'm also served by Arriva buses and in my opinion they generally seem to keep their 'aged' sunset fleet vehicles in better internal state. Perhaps first have a lot of "emergency" vehicles that aren't used very often?

At the moment the 4 is in a terrible state, largely being run by older single decks which have full standing loads and leaving some passengers behind during the peak. Obviously soon it will improve but it's not a very good image First are giving out on what was supposed to be a flagship service.

(Remember, ftrs everywhere were used on route 4!) If it's York, the 4 is run by a fair mix of B7Ls and B7RLEs, possibly slightly more B7Ls but that just reflects the make-up of the fleet.

"older single deckers" ... sounds more like bramley & leeds.

Yes, Leeds, I didn't make it clear but it was in response to previous comment/question about the 4 in Leeds.

When I've observed service 4 this week I've notices S/T reg Scanias and Volvo Olympians running on it, leaving people behind especially at Peak Times. Roll on 2 weeks when it gets converted to fully B9 operated.

I've seen a B6 on the 4 a couple of weeks back, now that would have been fun in the evening peak, not.

I believe that Bradford`s newest B9`s currently used on the 72 are moving to Bramley to work on route 4. I class route 4 now as a "Heritage Service"! It`s worth noting that regular users of route 4 will be glad to see FTR go!

Nothing can really be done to aid the 4 in Leeds, until the 72 becomes FTR operated, can it?
Really bad marketing if the repainted FTRs went on the 4 so that leaves Bramley with 19 FTRs (plus the York ones) off road.
