The 72 won't be going to York Street? The bottom 3 stops of Eastgate (westbound) are to be merged into one "super stop" for the 72.

I believe they have had Cummins engines fitted so maybe a lot faster.

Probably agree with LJX. When our Excels at Blackpool were 'Cumminised', there was a distinct improvement in pulling power, not neccessarily faster though. BTW, are the ones in Swansea still running as intended, or have they fallen by the wayside?

I believe they have had Cummins engines fitted so maybe a lot faster. And a whole lot more unreliable. Apart from the L10 in Olympian/Lynxes the smaller newer ones just cannot give the mileage bus operators crave. The Dart SPDs in South Yorkshire proved this time and time again, and now we have Tridents which keep dropping valves and snapping camshafts!. By all means remove the awfull D7Cs in the FTRs but im not sure Cummins is the right direction.

since the buses were Volvo engined to begin with why wern't the ftr's upgraded to a better volvo engine. E.g. A D9B in B9TL or B9R, or their making that new Volvo B11R chassis. With an 11 litre engine.

With an 11 litre engine. It could be down to cost and availabity. There are other issues, what will fit in the existing engine space or the cost of making it fix. Will it be compatable with the gearbox and the rest of the drive line.

I hinted in this or another First thread that I could ride one of these in November from Bradford to Thornbury, linking with routes X6 and 508. Having just been to Leeds on the August Bank Holiday I can wait until early in the new year to go back there and cover other "Metro east side" routes.
I hope all Streetcars from Leeds and York are allocated to route 72 next week.

Does anyone know what will happen to the surplus of Streetcars? The 72 will require 17 buses and I think Bramley should end up with 28 Streetcars including those from York. I know a further frequency upgrade has been suggested for the 72 in the future but that would only add another 1 or 2 vehicles to the mix.

Chances are they'll use all of them during a typical week to keep them all going, those not in use on any day will be kept on standby for when things go wrong.

8 of them are getting parked up in cherry row for spares Well that's a waste of money, their only 6 years old and getting prepared for scrap essentially.

Not exactly. The powers that be at First realise they aren't the most reliabile buses. Having some spare at the Leeds end of the route for any failures is good. Quicker than getting a spare from Bramley. Although I do think there should be an even split, 4 at Bradford, 4 at CRG and 3 in the middle at Bramley.

Noticed a distinct lack of bus stops down Eastgate this aft (westbound) in preperation for the new uber bus stop supposedly being put in for the 72. A notice said it was due to be completed by Sunday 28th.
Dang its actually happening

One of the "Hyperlink" streetcars will be on display to the public on Briggate on Friday, with First "Hosts" showing it off to the general public!

Typical of first, and indeed, Yorkshire Rider before, always have been d**n good at having launches in Leeds, forgetting that there are other places in the empire. As the FTR's are known in Leeds, it would surely have made more sense to also have a launch in Bradford ( the other end of the route, First!!) as the good burghers of Bradford will probably wonder what on earth this big blue slug is that is suddenly running in Bradford. More to the point, will they think, is this the same 72 I went to work on Last week or is it a new route. Shocking piece of PR if there is not a launch in Bradford really.

We can only hope they do the same in Bradford on Friday too, this event hasn`t been well publicised, I got the info from a driver on flickr! First are not brilliant when it comes to p/r!
