Great. It's one step forward and three back. Whats the point of march's move to move terminus point of the 4 to pudsey bs, if they 3 month later they extend it alot further then it was ever before. Not only this; are they going to have absortion time where they layover at thornbury like 15ish minutes, or a tight turn of 3/4. If so first well done. Clap on the back.
And the ftr on the 72. Ha, wonder how long that will last.

Look under 'Yorkshire Evening Post' - Thursday's edition - then Leeds/Bradford improvements. It is much the same as Metro's news on their website today. Sorry, I'm not capable of putting in links!

These buses represented the "ftr" on route 4. By October, on that route they will represent the "pst"! I thought they did represent the past anyway for needing conductors.

Why do you say that? While I wasn't a fan of the FTRs in York, the 72 looks like exactly the kind of route where they would be suitable – straight down the main road, no farting about on narrow residential streets with tight corners – so one of the FTRs main criticisms (that it is not very manoeuvrable) is irrelevant. People who used the FTR in York were generally very positive about the vehicles.

I have always said that they would do better on straight roads, hence why they have got them in Las Vegas.

FTR's are badly designed buses, the 7 litre engines cannot cope in such a large body.

What will happen to the B9s that are currently used on the 72? Obviously would need to be de-branded first but would they be allocated to other services in Bradford or would they transfer to Bramley as a replacement for the 4?

I'm surprised Bramley have got any room for so many articulated buses, although I suppose some other services such as MyBus contracts could move to Bradford to free up some space.

Go back a couple of months to the Giles Fearnley interview in the Buses magazine. He said the FTR's used most fuel setting off, and his plans were to put them on longer runs to get better mpg out of them. Makes sense I suppose!

FTRs start on the 72 in October, by then the olympics and paralympics will be over and the new buses used on the shuttle services will be transfered to other First. Maybe some of these could go to Bramley for the 4 instead of the B9TLs presently branded for the 72

Went on 19012 in Leeds today, has leather seating but even that's showing wear and tear with rips in the seats etc

I hear some of the ex-York FTR's are now away for a refurb which will include increasing the seating capacity.
Plus lots of different shades of Blue Paint to test out on them!!!!!!

I like how they say 'rapid transport scheme', take it they've had an engine upgrade and turbo charge then!

Don't think these would look good in any livery. At least they are and will still be easy to avoid. Looks like back to the X6 from Bradford to leeds.

I was wondering about the maths here, there are 28 FTR's in Yorkshire and even at the desired 6 minute frequency this would only need 19 of them at current journey times, only 16 at the 7 minute frequency at the start of operation. The article above also talks about bus priority schemes to speed up journey times which could reduce the PVR even further.
So the questions that spring to mind are...
1. Are we to expect an longer journey time on the new 72 timetable initially which will increase the PVR to closer to the vehicles available. or.... 2. Are the FTR's so unreliable that about of a third of the buses are likely to be unavailable at any one time. or... 3. Will we see FTR's appear on the 95 to replace the B7LA's and if so will we see an orange FTR or will they all be in blue.
