Let's have some discussion, I've been on flickr a lot recently looking at all the different types Arriva Yorkshire have had over the years like the Olympians, ALX 400, Presidents, Prestiges, Endurance, Renowns, Lynx, Striders, Spectras, Ikarus, ALX 200's, ALX 300's Dennis Darts, those step entrance plaxton pointer darts and a lot more types of buses they've had over the years.
The question, is what are your favourite bus type Arriva have had over the years and why? So from whenever Arriva started was it 1997,1998,1999?
Just want to create some interesting discussion after all this is a transport forum!
Sorry for the weird question, just want to have a discussion on about your favourite buses in Arriva Yorkshire history? I didn't know where to put it. Mods feel free to move this thread wherever you see fit.

Comfy driving position and controls, good smooth power, solid and smooth brakes/steering/suspension, even at the end of their life they were still better to drive than much newer buses. On the flip side for the worst buses it’s a toss up between the Optare Tempo and the ADL Enviro200 with the AS-Tronic gearbox 🤢. Side note back in the early noughties I really liked the Scania Stryders that First bus had.

As a passenger when I came to Yorkshire a few times a year to visit my family, I used to get the 189 a lot and often it was an ALX400 and they was really good to ride as a passenger, really enjoyed riding them and was great buses. Regarding the ADL Enviro200, I was talking to a Cas driver a few weeks ago I think it was the Bad Bus Presentation Group and he told me they was horrid to drive, and they aren't good to ride either. Sounds like your a Castleford driver? How are the versas? As I cas driver told me on a FB group last week they are nice buses just a bit cold.

The Versa’s are unique with how the front end is shaped so it’s a little weird positioning the front end. They’re not bad to drive but I unfortunately don’t fit in them very well as the steering wheel doesn’t tilt adjust up enough for my liking. The suspension is quite soft giving a good ride but it feels quite a bit floaty to drive till you’re used to it. I’ve not driven one when it’s been really cold so I can’t comment but like most buses some are warm and others are cold, it just depends on what mood they’re in.

The Metroriders were from the South Yorkshire Motor Service depot and West Riding. As well as the Metroriders they also Mercedes-Benz Plaxton Beavers (not ALX100 model though) which were with Yorkshire Buses. The Metroriders got phased out to the other depots when the MPDs arrived but i'm not sure about what happened with the Mercs.

Can I also make a case for the Renowns? I really enjoyed travelling them when I was younger. Really loved the high back seating and really enjoyed the rides on them. Very good buses they was. Had them on the 189/184/185 a few times when I visited family, very good buses.

I recall seeing an article a few months ago about a bus being on fire in Altofts, I can't find the article now, but I definitely saw an article where a bus was on fire.

ECW Olympians. Must admit I liked the variety of low floor dds bought between 1999 & 2001 unlike First & Stagecoach who bought the same combinations of chassis & bodywork year after year, they had DAF DB250S Optare Spectras,Volvo B7TLs ALX400S & B7TLs Presidents.

As a passenger, the best by a country mile were the B10BLE Renowns. The seats were much more comfortable than any other bus seats I've sat in apart from The 36, they were quiet, smooth, and you could really feel the power when the driver opened the taps.

I've only been taking the bus here for three years, I'd say the best I've had have been the Spectras and Olympuses

One bus I can say wasn't good for the passengers was the Presidents. Urban 90 seats! Urban 90 seats are the worst seats I've encountered in a bus and I thought the presidents was noisy as well. Not a bus that I liked when I visited Yorkshire years ago.

i was gutted when they got withdrew as they looked comfy and as though they still had life in them. They didn't get withdrawn they did? They got moved to Arriva Midlands I think. They got transferred to Wardle Transport which was Arriva Midlands equalivant to Tiger but its still classed as withdrawl as they got withdrawn from service with Arriva Yorkshire. A couple of ALX300s went to ?Bryn Jones and GHA Coaches as did 408 & 409 both of which were older generation Wright Endurance.
