They have all been named now.
All 13 Tempo's were at Castleford Tigers Rugby League ground this morning for their official launch.
Harry Gration from Look North was there, along with some of the "legends" who are named on the buses.
Obviously having the 13 Tempos out of service this morning would have caused a vehicle shortage, so the following were loaned to Castleford as cover:
Selby sent Volvo Olympians 621 and 622, Belle Isle sent DAF/ALX300's 440 and 459, Dewsbury sent Dart/ALX200 193, and Heckmondwike sent Volvo B7RLE 1109 and Trident 1901 - the latter two operating on the East Leeds 163/166 services (with fully programmed destinations).

Anyone know if 1302 is still at Optare, it was the only one not out in service again yesterday? It might shortly be followed by1306 in the short term since it is this one which sustained some minor damage just above the front of the doors where the nearside mirror arm is attached to the bus

Went on a couple of these for the first time, well impressed. Seem smooth, fast, no rattles - and quiet. Seem cramped inside though with only one buggy zone, and little luggage space these 12 metre vehicles only have 43 seats - compared to the Transdev Volvo B7's of the same size but seem to have good luggage space and 2 buggy zones! Noted was the sign on the cab partition saying "unfortunately this type of vehicle cannot carry unfolded prams - folded prams may be placed in the luggage rack" (which is the size of a stamp. Shame more operators don't buy these, being a tonne and a half lighter they must use less fuel than the heavy B7's.

They are good quality too because they are technically a long Solo and we all know how many operators use the Solo because of the high build quality etc. I think Tempo's speed up Boarding & Alighting times too as the doors can open whenever you want them too unlike most other buses where you either have to put the handbrake on or be driving below 5 Mph to open the doors.

The slide down vandal screens and cash trays look flimsy in comparison to other buses in the Arriva fleet. Holes have had to be cut into the perspex anti-vandal screens so that the drivers could see down the bus rather than a reflection of themselves

Notice London Operators have avoided Optare products like the plague except in the past small budget operators e.g. Capital Connections, Connex, Travel London and when they have been used they were on very insignificant routes eg. Metroline Hampstead Garden Suburb locals. London Transport discovered that the early Spectras had cracked chassis after a couple of days service and had to be withdrawn from service after launching them as the 'bus of the future', a big embarrassment! Only Hybrid Tempos exist in London.

TfL don't order the buses themselves, the operators usually decide on what buses they will have to the TfL specification which forms part of the contract of operating a route.

Tempos are only 5% of our total fleet, they account for a staggering 16% of all vehicle failures. Are Optare at fault for this 16% or is it the engine manufacturers that cause this 16% of failures? I presume its the engine providers that are at fault!

One of the London operators already has some Versas. I think it may be Transdev London United
It does seem that Trent Barton were not impressed with the issues with their Optare Tempos. They've ordered buses from practically everyone else but Optare in the last few years after being regular Optare customers.

If you actually read the article on the page that was linked, it seems to be problems with bodywork and electrical problems which is down to Optare themselves, not Mercedes!

And Trent Barton have just Purchased Mercedes Citaros - if the Tempos were having Engine problems do you think they would have done that?

My bad, i didn't take time to read same. But i still think that the Tempo has rid of these quite miniscule problems and is a quality bus. Also about TFL, i dont understand the goings on around London but will take your word for it.
