Just been looking at Adam Smiths Pics of these Tempos look well nice. Just one question if anyone can answer it..... What is the yellow strip at the front bottom corner (offside/under driver) I have noticed this on a few other buses. Always thought they were a depot code like for example green for dewsbury red for Hecky sort of thing. See what you think or find out. arrivayorkshire.fotopic.net/c1720747.html

I was on 1305 on 166 and my god it has power but heres a question, is the engine nearly the same as the transbus dart engines as it sounds identical to a transbus dart.

I think I can supply a few more details here. By checking the Optare website plus the Dewsbury Bus Museum's Arriva News section. The new Tempos are indeed some of the most powerful service buses around with 6.37 litre Mercedes 280 hp engines. The Darts on the other hand make do with Cummins engines of much less power (guess 180 hp max for a long Dart / Enviro 200)

A bit more info here - the new Cummins engines in the latest Enviros are listed up to 225 hp, but most of the ones we see on the roads will have nearer the 150-180 hp range. Look on the manufacturer's websites for more details

Anyone know why the guide-wheels have been removed from all the Tempos? They still appear to be fitted to some of the ALX400.
Castleford had a couple of ALX300's (484 was one of them) allocated to the 163/6 yesterday morning. I think these were on those boards where they only operate 163/6 at peak times.

Like on mose buses i have to sit sideways (im over 6ft 3) and struggle to get sat properly unless its at the back or near the emergency exit.

It might be but my feet are firmly attached at the bottom of my legs and they would not fit in the space provided unless I turned them to the side. Not something I have encountered on any other vehicle type. Ask the drivers about the sighting of the internal mirror. The perspex screen is between the driver and the mirror and results in internal reflection which renders the mirror almost useless!

They will not using the guide way and making the journey slightly quicker than before and using the normal bus stops at the side of the road sides instead.

The stretch below Asda is a joke when it comes to queueing and can take about 5-10mins to get through, where as your practically straight in and out on the guideway

I agree the traffic is lighter during the holidays but it is still quite bad around 8.15. Dont think i've ever seen any maintenance done on the guideway.

It does require some maintenance, i mean there needs to be more drains in there for a start

Even if they were doing Maintenance to the Guideway why take the guide wheels off the Tempos and not the First Vehicles.

Even if they were doing Maintenance to the Guideway why take the guide wheels off the Tempos and not the First Vehicles. Seems strange since some of the ALX400's are still running round with the guidewheels still on. Could it be that the Tempos require a slightly different type/size/style of wheel. I did notice that initially it appeared that Arriva had used the wheels from the ALX400's. The Tempos were using the guideway a couple of weeks ago. I'm sure Optare would know how the system works, they are on the doorstep so the design should be OK. Does anyone remember if the Demonstrator used the Guideway?
