Hello to all,
I`ve been looking at some photo`s recently of all the people at the 5 different depots who are striking and i just wondered if they ever got really bored of just sitting or standing there for hours and hours?. Also how do they go on about food and drinks and use of toilets?.

Hello, Please can i ask if anyone know`s what the whole position is now with regards the strike?
It staggering just how much fuel i`ve actually used in the car since the 6th of June by trying to help my family who rely on buses to get where they need to be.

I`d like to ask,
If the meeting between the union and whom ever it is from Arriva that attends goes in the unions favour on Wednesday. Does that mean that the buses will be running again Thursday?.
Cheers, Bryan.

I dont think i`ve ever posted on here but here goes.
So today at around 12 30 pm i was coming out of the one stop shop in Altofts and turned to my left to walk home towards the M62 motorway bridge when i spotted an Arriva driver training bus coming the opposite way heading towards normanton. It was an Optare Tempo with one instructor and 2 trainee`s aboard. My point being that i was told on monday that the driver training academy was closed due to the strike.

Hello to all,
I`m just putting this out there in case anyone might have a rough idea.
So not all the drivers voted to strike, so i was just wondering if anyone had any idea`s as to why they would vote against striking?. I voted not to strike as i just wanted to drive buses, so that was my own personal choice.
Also whatever hourly rate they get will be subject to tax and national insurance stoppages and also possibly a pension deduction. So my question is, if they wanted to be on say for example 15 pound per hour to actually bring home as in nett per hour, how much would they need to be on per hour gross as in before stoppages?.
Cheers,
Bryan.

Hello to all,
Hopefully some of the regular forum contributers will pick this up later today and may be able to help me out with my enquiries.
So from 2am today there wont be any Arriva buses allowed to leave any of the 5 depots.
I`ve been asked by family members if the bus station at wakefield will still be open as i figured that the other operators will still need somewhere safe to both off load and load their passengers. Also will the various shops/cafe`s still be open for business?.
Also does anyone on here know who the area manager is for Arriva Yorkshire?. I know who both operation managers are and the general manager for the Wakefield division, but i dont know the chain of command above them.
Back in 1992 based at Belle isle i had Michael Hunter who was head of Caldaire holdings, then below him i had Brian Jackson who was the regional manager of all 5 depots, then i had John Shaw who was District Manager and then below him was Kevin Thompson who was Assistant District Manager.
So when the unite reps are in talks with Arriva Management, who exactly do they meet up with?.
I did manage to read the list of demands from the union when i got my ballot paper and i have to say it was quite a list, actually i thought it was staggering and personally felt that no bus company would ever be able to properly operate if it gave in to all the demands.
Personally i was more than happy with my 10.91 per hour as before that i`d been on 10 pound a day benefits.
I guess it all goes down to how extravagent your life style is and what you`ve got to pay out per week etc.
I live a very very basic life and having been on 10 pound a day ( Benefits ) and then been given the chance to be on 10 91 per hour was totally staggering...
I guess at the end of the day its all down to personal choice....
I do know that there are going to be a hell of a lot of very vunerable people out there from 2am who are going to struggle....

I`ve just read a reply post to something i posted earlier on this thread which told me that there would be no buses leaving any of the 5 arriva yorkshire depots. Can that be true?. I mean are all the buses going to be prevented from leaving the bus depots?. What about the drivers who did not vote to strike and simply want to drive a bus and earn a wage and help to get people where they need to be?. Also what happens with the driving academy at Belle isle?. The trainee drivers will still need to undertake their required hours of driver training and wont actually be in the union yet, so will the union also not allow the trainee`s to crack on with their training so as to help them achieve their goal of becoming bus drivers so as to help aliveate the driver shortage?.

Hey up Stephen,
Good to hear from you again.
Do you think that the owner of the company will ever bring back the 126 as it was a decent paying route?.
What does ML1 do?.

Hi there Stephen,
Thanks ever so much for that info, its very much appreciated.
Its a real shame they dont now run the 126 ossett/wakefield service as i used to drive that back in 2014 and it was a really good route.
Wonder if station coaches need any drivers?.

Thanks ever so much for that Stephen, its a huge help for me. Last time i was a driver at Wakefield was 1994 and everythings changed so it`ll take me a while to adjust once i get my start date. Amazing how much the routes have either changed or been withdrawn over the last 28 years.

Thanks to West Yorkshire Bus Spotter and Kendall17 for reassuring me about future driving vacancy possibilities with Arriva Yorkshire ( Wakefield ).
I have my PCV licence and my driver CPC card so would basically just need to be route trained and get familiar with the ticket machine.
I`ll just need to be at home and wait patiently till May 11th....It`ll soon pass :-)

Hello and good evening to everyone,
Its Just gone 10pm here in Altofts where i am currently staying and i`m simply putting this out there to see if anyone can help me.
I`m trying to find out who owns a Leyland Olympian with the registration number C612 ANW. This bus has coach seating and is currently in secure storage and is privatley owned.
The bus is currently in the first version of Arriva livery but used to be in the livery of Fastaway and also was for a short time an allover advert.
If anyone can shed any light on my enquiry, i`d sure appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
Bryan.

Hi there Mutty,
Thanks ever so much for taking the time to explain things. So if the services are to be axed due to low passenger numbers wont that still mean that the company wont need as many drivers as there wont be as many routes to cover or for the drivers to learn?. So basically the same thing, less routes will mean no need for more drivers.

Hello and good morning to everyone.
I wanted to ask a question about the services that are going to be withdrawn by Arriva next month ( February 2022 ).
Have Arriva decided to withdraw the services due to driver shortages?. and if thats so then does that mean that if there are less services then Arriva wont be organising any further recruitment days at Wakefield?. I was aiming to join Arriva as a driver from May 11th this year.

Hello dimmock87,
Please can i ask if its am/pm term time only drivers that are wanted at Wakefield or is it full time stage carriage drivers that are needed?.
I have my pcv licence and CPC card but no DBS certificate.
I live in Altofts about 7 miles from Wakefield and have my own transport.
Cheers, Bryan.
