Additional time added to the X1? If that get's anything slower, they may as well market it as the slug!

CT Plus has some nice drivers however they struggle worse than first did with showing up on time.

Dalesbus service 822 from York to Grassington via Boroughbridge, Ripon and Pateley Bridge is due to start on 17th April. No news yet on others except the 821 mentioned in the May thread in a few moments lol.

Arriva planning to introduce a Sunday service on Saturdays from 25 April 😳. Post taken from Cllr Matthew Morley

Just saw that post from Cllr Morley too. The 101 seems to be used well on a Saturday. Once they withdraw it, it will never come back

How would having buses in public control mean there wouldn’t be a shortage of drivers? I seriously doubt Arriva are planning on running Sunday services on Saturdays permanently or for commercial reasons so I don’t know what the councillor is on about.

As a car driver, and with the government etc trying to encourage people like me to use public transport this is another kick in the teeth. Why would I want to give up my car to sit in a bus station for ages waiting for a bus, which might not even turn up. Pointless. Unless Arriva et al start increasing frequencies and routes then they will not have any customers left!

A reference to Ms Brabin's 'ambition' appears in this column once more. Why does she suggest 'public control' when she means political control - to create the same mess as Transport for London's finances where all taxpayers bale out the whims of their leader.

Considering the Saturday services are now amongst the busiest with shoppers, drinkers and leisure travellers some of these proposed frequencies simply will not cope. Sunday services may have worked on a Saturday last year with shops, bars and restaurants closed but they simply will not cope now.

Totally agree especially with the weather improving too people tend ro use the bus to go out with family

Wow that's cutting off whole villages and communities. Its a catch 22 situation they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. You need a stable timetable that you can rely on not have to cancel services on the day.

This is the worse decision AY has made. I usually use AY and don’t use anything else (apart from trains), but this makes me want to use other services, but there are no suitable routes to get to my destination. Like I remembered times when I hung out with people and the buses were suitable and had no issues whatsoever but it is just getting worse. Saturday’s are busy as people just wanted to go to shops, go to work, go out with friends and how will this be suitable when the weather will be warmer and more people want to go out? I just hope this doesn't happen.

Agreed this would be a terrible decision, but that is in keeping with most of Arriva's decisions over the last five years, just look at the website redesign as another example. This falls right into the hands of the franchising brigade who will get maximum political value out of this as proof that private companies cannot be trusted to run the buses. It doesn't matter if the same driver shortages would exist under public ownership or franchising, the politicians will tell everyone things will be better under their control and by the time they have their way, and we see nothing has changed, most of them will have moved onto the next stage of their political careers.
I don't know how many driver duties are involved in these cuts but any rational person could see that the impact would be lessened by removing a handful of services over six days instead of decimating services on one day. For instance if this saves 60 drivers on a Saturday, surely better to remove 10 driver rota's per day Monday to Saturday and publicise which particular services won't run ahead of time.
If I was a conspiracy theorist, which I'm not, it's almost like Arriva management has been instructed to destroy the companies reputation in Yorkshire, Merseyside and the North East, who are all looking to follow Manchester's lead, giving the company a chance to either bid for franchises at much reduced cost, or to help them offload depots and vehicles to other franchise winners, thus selling assets which they have been unable to offload ever since it was announced that they were available for sale.
