Tiger Operated in South Kirklees majority of the time. And widely in Calderdale. Yes. If you re-read the post from Ripponden Traveller they said Calderdale & Kirklees operations when it was only Tiger who operated in South Kirklees as the original post can imply that Dewsbury & Heckmondwike depot had been sold too.

Surely at this point Arriva have got to be looking to sell up. They've clearly almost all but given up. There must be a buyer interested in that area, whether it be Stagecoach (who I've always been surprised have never tried to make inroads in to Leeds), or Transdev. Of course there are driver shortages, but the Arriva Yorkshire operation is one with a lot of existing success, but also a lot of untapped potential. From spending time in Wakefield every now and again; their buses aren't running around empty. According to the councillor's statement on the matter in hand: 1 in 4 households in the region don't have access to a car, and we can assume that a large proportion of that 25% use public transport. That is much higher than the average percentage of bus users (which I believe sits around 5%). Arriva are looking to sell up. They made that clear some time ago. That doesn't mean anyone else has to be interested unless the price is right. At this point whoever buys it is going to have a blooming good challenge getting things back to a good even footing. These latest round of changes are a right farce. I am lucky that I have access to a car and live on a fairly main road with a few buses, but I don't drive into Leeds because parking is a right farce as is parking in some parts of Wakey city centre. Buses along Bradford Road and around Wrenthorpe have been pretty poor since the last round of changes and now with the 118 going hourly and the 101 cancelled on Saturdays and only the 425A running every hour on Saturdays it's going to be even worse, can't imagine those poor folk who live in Wrenthorpe village or other areas with little bus service as it is who now lose their Saturday service.

I'm surprised how WYCA has not peer pressured Arriva out of West Yorks, lately they have been doing a terrible job. Even First is doing better than them. Arriva UK has struggled alot resulting Cannock operations being sold to D&G (Centrebus) and the Calderdale/Kirklees operations being sold to Transdev. Arriva also shut down their travel centres permanently and brought a lot of cuts to Yorkshire. At this point I don't think Arriva can go on maybe they should sell there depots. I'm not sure how WYCA can 'peer pressure' Arriva out of WY,without introducing franchising & blocking them from bidding from routes. As Arriva's UK Future has been in question for some time it be interesting to see if they bother bidding for any of the GM Network,or they just take the money for the depots & leave. That said,I'm not sure Arriva selling the less profitable areas has anything to do with Yorkshires driver shortage. Go North East did a similar thing about a month or 2 ago operating a Sunday service out of i think Consett,Sunderland & Washington depots & i don't think its likely thats a sign they was selling up soon. The likes of Transdev & First still also have alot of cancelled journeys (having to use both Transdev & Arriva regularly,Arriva had been the more reliable funnily enough) so hopefully this allows Arriva to at least run close to 100% M-Fri Possibly public controlled buses.

Publicly controlled buses would be nice, unfortunately this country doesn't invest enough cash into buses & you end up with problems like TfL are facing (Be interesting to see how Manchester is fairing in say 5-10 years time) Also i doubt that would solve the issue of driver shortages, hopefully this will be similar to Go North East & only last a few weeks & not like Brylaine in Lincolnshire, that have suspended all Saturday service from December & now looking like July at earliest for it's return. I Do think Arriva have the most difficult task out of the WY Operators,as Castleford/Wakefield area seems to have alot of industrial/logistic companies they will be having to compete against to get new drivers.

At Heckmondwike we disagree with these 'changes", we suggested to higher management when they announced it to us on Wednesday (came out of the blue), reduce 268 to every 20 minutes (saves 3 vehicles approx 12 staff), reduce 229 to half hourly full route (saves 4 vehicles, again about 12 staff) and run Monday to Saturday.
Cos when you look at the changes, NO changes Monday to Friday, but Saturdays 229 going hourly through to Huddersfield, driver gonna be possibly taking 2 bus loads of passengers, then when HTFC are playing, and driver stuck in traffic but due off for his break, service may get cancelled out of Huddersfield, to allow driver to run empty back to Heckmondwike to come off for break on time, then next 229 would be two hours later!!!, cos 228 won't be running on Saturdays, so anyone wanting past 3 Nuns will be inconvenienced. Plus Cleckheaton to Leeds (254/255) on Saturdays will be half hourly, times are tight as they are, with 5 minute turnaround at Leeds.
What may happen is, staff on Rest Day may not work, thereby, some Saturday services may still be cancelled.
For the record, currently Heckmondwike is approximately 16 drivers short, with at least 5 leaving in that next few months (1 leaving 1/4, 1 leaving 8/4, 3 waiting for start dates from new employers), but apparently maybe 10 for Heckmondwike in/about to start Training School, still leaves us 11 short.
It'll get worse before it gets better.

Thats why i said i think Arriva has the more difficult task, plus outside of Halifax both First & Transdev are still missing trips (cannot say for Team Pennine in particular as I stopped using them to see my mate at the top of Greetland earlier this year,I now just get a taxi to & from Sowerby Br rail station) But i still use Transdev Coastliner & Route 7 services at least 3 days a week & normally at least once or twice i will have one of them cancelled. DB have just sold Arriva's Swedish operations a couple of days ago also,so that might be the sign the full sale has now started & it won't be too long for the UK to be sold off.

I'm thinking they probably would have been much better off re-routing the 118A on a Saturday via the 118S route, rather than diverting via the underused John Charles route, giving parts of Lofthouse at least one more bus to try and fill in the massive 20 min gaps in the 110 timetable. Yes it's a longer way from both Wakefield and Leeds to Lofthouse, and yes it won't serve 110 stops, but it does run close enough to the main 110 route down there and is an alternative to the soon to be packed 110. You've also got an alternative should the 110 miss!

Well, the people behind Dalesbus have defo delivered one hell of a curveball this year. Last year they surprised us with First operating deckers on the 822 and 875. This year the 822 will, wait for it, be operated from Pocklington by East Yorkshire! This will be the furthest West, and North for that matter they've operated, except for the coach side. The route will be Pocklington, York, Ripon, Fountians Abbey, Pateley Bridge then Grassington. Supposing they then extend to Hawes like the 822 did by way of additional 875 journeys, that'll be just a handful of miles from the border with Cumbria! East Yorkshire to very nearly Cumbria on a normal bus service, even if it's just Sundays with a change of number in Grassington, who'd have thought it!

First's foray into the world of Dalesbus was brief indeed!

Reliance has done Dalesbus in past but more recently been running trips on Moorsbus as have East Yorkshire. Reliance are also operating the 74 but that will now serve York & Harrogate so that means WY misses out again as they'll only be 821 (Keighley) 874, 875 (Leeds) & 884 (Bradford).

If Dalesbus get the marketing right, I can see the revised 74 being a good move as there is a stronger tourist market in Harrogate and York than from the likes of Wakefield, Bradford and Dewsbury. I've previously suggested that Dalesbus specifically target hotel owners in the Dales with a joint marketing campaign, e.g. stock and promote our services and in return we'll promote your discounts, or offer a joint discount to encourage people to come into the area and stay with you, like what they're doing with some shops and cafes. I've seen the 74 on occasion in the Morley area (A650) when Arriva ran it and it wasn't well used then, maybe perhaps it wasn't all that well used from Bradford?

I do know the 818/820 were in fact well used from Batley/Dewsbury May-September but it was always April & October when they were skeletal. Know i do know the 874 & 875 when Arriva ran them used to barely have anyone on from Wakefield to Leeds which i was surprised at given they followed the 110 route to LCBS. The 74 Dalesbus had only run for 2019 with Arriva so that isn't much time to build up custom given must routes usually last 2 years before getting axed.

I guess a key difference is that from Leeds, you can get the X84 to Ilkley and connect with the 74 there (just like you always used to have to do when POTD were running the route), whereas connections from Harrogate are less frequent (and just miss the 74 in the morning) and connections from York are non-existent. And Leeds still has the 874 and 875 on Sundays. Ah yes, looking through the archives I can see that Reliance did run the 805 (as it was then, basically the 875) back in 2005, but that's the most recent one I can find!
