So potentially the service will be using almost 10 year old single decks, albeit refurbished to a very high standard.
How prone are these types of buses to engine overheating and/or fires? The slog up over saddleworth at 50+ mph must put some real strain on the engines. Will the buses cope with such an arduous journey?

A very good point, 'angrycommuter' - I can clearly remember being on a double deck coach (one of Metro's double deck Olympians with a higher output engine) over 30 years ago and it breaking down due to overheating on the way up to the summit. A unpleasant and indeed dangerous experience having to change buses on the hard shoulder! I do hope this route is a success for Transdev, as it is a bold adventure, but I can foresee so many things that may go wrong resulting in an unreliable service. Almost every day you can check the travel news for the M62 and witness 30 minutes plus delays. However, with the driver being able to choose whichever route is quickest, we may well see the buses once more returning to the the A672 road via Ripponden and Denshaw - the old X12 express from Bradford to Manchester!

I Absolutely concur 77syk7 , guaranteed to be observed operating via Denshaw ,Ripponden and Sowerby Bridge! (looking forward to it) The M62 is a total nightmare of a motorway almost every day some incident or another particularly on the Leeds /Manchester stretch. Its the drivers i feel sorry for, not a job i would want for the money on offer, i have driven the Halifax to White Rose/Leeds sevices M62/X80 over the years and did not particularly enjoy the motorway driving.

News from the ZAP Cap.... Stood outside the Corny in Leeds this morning around 11. Saw Mainline liveried 1866 travelling east along Duncan Street across into Call Lane towards Leeds City Bus Station. Destination was showing "Manchester's Fast" on top row with "from 5th November" underneath. Lots of high viz wearing staff on board so presume it was driver/route training. I'm guessing 1866 is a vehicle of the same engine/body spec of those that have been especially refurbished? I presume they want to keep the real vehicles under wraps until nearer the launch, although won't be surprised to see one on Briggate next week, a bit like before the York service launched. Found a photo of it leaving Leeds City bus station. www.flickr.com/photos/128789124@N06/37869501492/

According to WYIS 1866 is one of the B7RLEs to remain at Burnley but unlike the rest (1867-1871) is not to re-registered. 1867-1871 are to become ML02ZAP-ML06ZAP. With 1863-65 going to Blackburn I suspect it must be odds on 1861 and 1862 becoming the "newer vehicles" promised for Harrogates route 24 to Pateley Bridge.

The shortening of the 1 will have freed up a few as well (assuming the 21 will be run by something lower quality)

Don't forget it has to call at Ainley Top - more likely to come off at J21 then over to Denshaw then the A640 to Ainley Top, I would have thought - though maybe not in winter!

No, today they were using Cityzap liveried 1870 with its new ML05ZAP registration. Intriguingly Alex has tweeted "Did you spot our cityzapbus road testing and beating the M62 today?" which may indicate some significant off M62 mileage.

One week to go.
They missed a trick not starting a week earlier given the train situation between Manchester and Leeds today. I would have probably been on it!

On the other hand if a number of people felt the same would their not be capacity issues - its hardly a service that a spare extra vehicle can be fitted into quickly as a duplicate.

1868, 1869, 1870 and 1871 lined up in CityZap livery. Looked like re-registered as ML53 ZAP, ML04 ZAP, ML05 ZAP and ML06 ZAP. Looks like 1867 will be used as backup, as it's painted in Transdev "Pride of the North" livery. www.flickr.com/photos/northernsoutherner/24220702788/
