TransPennine Express North planned timetable May 2022 * Liverpool – Stalybridge – York hourly * Liverpool – Stalybridge – Scarborough hourly * Manchester Airport – Dewsbury – Redcar Central (hourly) * Manchester Victoria – Dewsbury – Newcastle (hourly) * Manchester Piccadilly – Stalybridge – Hull (peak times, evenings and Sundays calls all stops Stalybridge – Huddersfield) * Manchester Piccadilly – Huddersfield (stopper) runs daytime only not Sundays * Huddersfield – Leeds (stopper) hourly I don’t think 1tph to Manchester Airport would be enough particularly to cope with the summer traffic. Surprised the Liverpool to Newcastles are being cut at Manchester Victoria, and I also thought TPE were considering extending the Manchester to Huddersfield stoppers through to Wakefield Kirkgate? This proposal to extend to Kirkgate was scrapped in March 2020. There has always been only one Manchester Airport Transpennine Express service per hour from Yorkshire. There are alternative services run by Northern and also Transpennine Express on their AngloScottish route.

For several years pre-Covid there has been a half hourly service from Leeds to Manchester Airport. I'll look up an old timetable to find out where they all came from before Leeds.

A few years ago, HADRAG begged for a link from the Calder Valley Line to Manchester Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street with Calling Stations being Leeds, New Pudsey, Bradford Interchange, Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Todmorden, Rochdale, Manchester Victoria, Man Picc (for Airport Services) and then I can't remember the rest for the Liverpool service, so maybe Northern could help as an alternative to TP Express.

There isn’t capacity through the Castlefield corridor for such a service hence why it never happened and also why the existing TPE service has been cut back

The original plan under 'northern powerhouse' was that the Leeds to Man Vic via the Calder Valley would go to Chester, Wigan direction and to Manchester Airport (hence why for a period they went to Manchester Ox Rd before they were gonna get extended to the airport) then the massive problems with trains through the Castlefield corridor happened and the Man Air got dropped

As northern operate 3 trains to Castleford and to Huddersfield I believe and if TPE does hourly I expect it to be quite popular for people willing to travel for work or University.

Northern's trains between Castleford/Wakefield and Huddersfield have been replaced with Rail Replacement Buses for the foreseeable future.

RMT strike action is taking place on Sunday 20 February
An amended timetable will be in place on this date, which will see a significant reduction in available services. TPE are advising customers not to travel on the majority of routes and to plan carefully if journeys are necessary.
Those attending major events, including the Leeds United vs Manchester United match, should seek alternative transport where possible.
The RMT has also announced further planned strike action by its TPE conductors from 00:01 – 23:59 on 27 February and 6 March.

TransPennine Express North planned timetable May 2022 * Liverpool – York hourly * Manchester Airport – Dewsbury – Redcar Central (hourly) * Manchester Victoria – Dewsbury – Newcastle (hourly) * Manchester Piccadilly – Stalybridge – Hull (peak times, evenings and Sundays calls all stops Stalybridge – Huddersfield) Surprised they're going back to the full 5tph Leeds to Manchester so soon. Wonder if they'll have the staff to do it. Latest news is that it will still be a reduced 3tph from May, with the current timetable running through until September 2022.

The dispute will continue on Sundays throughout April and May, plus Holiday Saturdays (the Saturdays nearest to the Bank Holiday). Limited timetable on North Transpennine route, with no provision for cycles on these days.

Despite the strike today, I saw a loco-hauled TPE train heading north of Stockport just before 4pm this afternoon.

Why do I keep seeing 185s pass Sowerby Bridge? I think some empty stock movements go via the Calder Valley

Wasn't one early in the day, timetabled via Calder Valley for route knowledge retention? Also it is the diversion line for the Standege route for a long time now. Even when the Deltics were still in service!!!!!

TPE regularly use the Calder Valley overnight. And they do route learning during the day, they may be using the surplus of drivers and units on strike days to put additional route learning trains out
