Yorkshire Evening Post article about services changes in Leeds, reporting that some First services have been taken over by "an operator called Centrebus". Does mention that customers with First tickets will be charged 50p per journey on Centrebus (which it will do from the beginning of August) but no mention of not being charged extra for the first week. Although, the First Leeds site doesn't mention anything about customers being charged at all on Centrebus with First tickets. www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/First-loses-Leeds-bus-services.6424540.jp

Arriva are advertising on their site about the J32 bus from Selby to Xscape, which starts next Wednesday. Passengers will be joined by the Selby Youth Council, who campaigned for the service, dressed in ski outfits. www.arrivabus.co.uk/content.aspx?id=10430

LOL There is no legal or contractual requirement for Centrebus to accept another operators tickets in any way. That they do is a way both of helping confused customers and to try and generate business by getting them on board their buses to see the service offered and hopefully get them to buy Centrebus tickets in future. However, I am sure that if people take advantage of the offer by buying First tickets and travelling on Centrebus vehicles cheaply either the price will increase or the offer will be withdrawn as costing more money than it generates.

Some operators do let people travel on certain services with other operator tickets. In Manchester, JPT allow people on the 328 between Bridge Hall and Reddish via Stockport with Stagecoach tickets (as Stagecoach run the Monday-Saturday daytime service and JPT run tendered evening and Sunday service)

Alternatively there is an established agreement between 2 established operators to accept each others tickets.

Black Prince used to offer a similar ticket for 50p/60p for First ticket holders. I guess it's just a balance of earning a little extra money and helping your customers out versus losing too much potential profit. If the balance is right then why not offer it.

I can imagine Centrebus are only doing it at the momemnt, as they have a small group of service in Leeds area. I would imagine if they had a larger amount of services, they wouldn't do the 50p offer for a long period. Or you could argue, they're doing it for the Cross Green area services for people who commute to there from other areas of Leeds.
Does the 50p offer apply to all the services Centrebus won in the tendering or does it include the 757 too?

Interesting to know who came up with the 50p idea. Centrebus could have easily made people just buy their single/day/weekly tickets but then not attract as many passengers, as allowing people on with First tickets for a small charge

It's a good way of winning over passengers, cos First wouldn't do it if it was the other way round.

It does make it more appealable, particularly if they have to use a First service before using a Centrebus service. However, I wouldn't be surprised in a few months time (particularly if they win more tendered services or introduce some commercial services in Leeds) they withdraw the 50p offer in the hope they'll switch to them.
