Great news! I’m surprised the WY towns/cities bordering SY don’t have any links to the region. Other than Hemsworth (extending to Pontefract) on the 28 and the 59 + 96/97 to Barnsley, I believe the other services were all funded by SYPTE who stopped the funding

Great news! I’m surprised the WY towns/cities bordering SY don’t have any links to the region. They used to have lots. So many there was a bus ticket valid on all operators across both countries (the Metro Master).

Great news! I’m surprised the WY towns/cities bordering SY don’t have any links to the region. The railway improvements over the past 20 years or so killed off alot of demand such as Huddersfield > Barnsley/Sheffield, it's noticeable the 2 main surviving West to South Yorkshire routes are them that don't have competing rail services (59 Doesn't really compete since the Royston line closed long ago). Stagecoach closing Shafton depot & selling Waterloo probably played a part also, plus the increase of coach routes on the Sheffield/Meadowhall > Leeds corridor. If Metro & SYTPE worked together to bring back the MetroMaster & have it include both Bus & Rail (unsure if it was bus only before or not) that would make things alot easier.

Penistone line has been improved? It was worse? I’m gobsmacked I used it a few months ago to head to Sheffield. It had some absolutely dreadful trains, which can only be described as sheds on wheels. Extremely loud, poor acceleration, shabby interior, along with some terrible ride quality. It felt third world to say the very minimum. I strongly feel like the trainline hasn’t improved enough to kill off demand entirely.

496 is getting extended to Doncaster with a dog leg journey into redhouse industrial estate. Operating in the morning and afternoon on weekdays and Saturdays. Proof? I'm a driver for Wakefield depot....from an internal notice

I wonder if this means peak morning and afternoon times, or through the daytime? For example 7am-9am and 3pm-5pm or something more like 7am-4pm? Weekdays buses arrive into Doncaster at 6:45, 08:00 and 17:30 and Saturday ones arrive 7:00, 08:12 and 17:30. Weekdays buses depart at 6:53 and 17:35 Saturday buses depart at 07:07 and 17:35

Any ideas what’s happening to the 148/149? There's no rumours or anything going around the depot about knottingleys.

During the Mid 00s there was line speed improvements between Huddersfield & Barnsley plus during the Community rail pilot a number of stations got cleaned up (& are still in fairly decent condition) and earlier/later services added then more recently it's had the Pacers replaced by Sprinters. When the bridge over Thornton Lodge is finally replaced that will allow another few minutes to be saved plus possibly an upgrade of train type.

I would really like to see something like the old X68 between Huddersfield and Sheffield which used mainly the A629, diverting through Penistone.

I remember reading their documents a few months back, I believe they want every core bus route to have running times from 5am-11pm, probably why they were lenient in letting it drop. Plus, there can’t be many people using the bus at 4am…

The registration for the 51 and 52 says one thing bustimes.org/registrations/PB0000815/506 however the Metro upcoming timetable says something else. I wonder who is correct as a number of pre 7am Saturday journeys still appear in the upcoming timetable.
