It's been reported on another forum that one of the X98s broke down in Collingham, probably the reason for any missing/delayed buses. Its around 13 Miles from Leeds to Wetherby, hardly a major distance. If thats 'too far' & instead people should instead travel into a different county (what is more expensive to travel to) then its no wonder more & more people are turning to the car. But Harrogate is quicker and by far easier to get to, and is 4 miles nearer. Ironically if you were driving, the quickest way from Wetherby to Leeds is around 10 miles longer via the motorway. The extra cost should be no problem to Wetherby residents who pay £7 per mile for a taxi journey lol. Leeds is a major city, with far more jobs & educational opportunities than Harrogate. I'd be interested in hearing the reaction to saying 13 Miles is too far for somewhere thats part of the Leeds City Council area, yet places further away from Leeds are ok. Looking at their suggestions on the survey, diverting via St James seems like a good move plus i'm assuming them mentioning adding a 2nd bus per hour to Deighton Bar means they are adding a 5th bus to the PVR,what should improve things also (assuming they have a driver for it).

Looking at their suggestions on the survey, diverting via St James seems like a good move Good move for anyone who has an appointment there. Bad move for anyone who wants to go into Leeds. Snails pace round there, too many traffic lights & very little bus priority

Personally I found Wetherby a drag to get to from Leeds, and found Harrogate a lot better to get to from Wetherby, the Harrogate boundary is just outside the town and many in Wetherby send their kids to school in Harrogate. Going way off topic but Wetherby does feel and look like it should be under Harrogate council than Leeds.

Almost Cityzapping today to avoid a road incident a X98 service running via the Ring Road, A64 and A1(M) to Wetherby and returning via the A1(M), M1 and Pontefract Lane

LucyP is welcome to her opinions and, as stated in another comment, this is a discussion forum, so whether you agree or not with what is posted, LucyP has as much right as the rest of us to post.
That said, there are comments from multiple members that are (at the very least) sailing extremely close to the line of what is acceptable on this forum.
We don't have to all agree on everything (and i would be extremely concerned if we all did!), but whether you think using a GPS device to time a bus is a bit extreme or you're trying to get a point across about the reliablity of a service, we are all capable of commenting in a way which doen't resort to using derogatory comments like 'armchair enthusiasts' or telling other members to 'bugger off' or 'go bore someone else'.
I will shortly be going through this thread and making any edits or cuts that need to be made to above posts. I would rather be doing something more entertaining at 10pm after a long day at work.
THIS THREAD WILL REMAIN OPEN FOR NOW TO GIVE EVERYONE THE CHANCE TO CONTRIBUTE IN A MATURE AND SENSIBLE FASHION. HOWEVER, SHOULD THE THREAD CONTINUE TO DETERIORATE FURTHER, THIS DECISION WILL BE REVIEWED.

Totally agree with Burnside, Whatever people think of Transdev, it cant be good for LucyP being continuously let down. I personally would be "venting" on this forum too if i was in her position. Not only that, but she's doing us all a favour by bringing the failings of this service to our attention.

When it goes terribly wrong they are a heap of rubbish with no recovery plans. Sadly there is 21st century buses. Ran on a shoe string budget with minimal returns due expenses, unable to have more buses to cover peak and off peak vehicle requirement then is required (e.g. if PVR is 21 have 23 in service with absorption time at the terminus).

Wetherby being 'a drag' from Leeds is just one example of how rubbish the road links can be in this country, but 13 Miles is not that far & is a fairly average commute hence why i don't understand your comments over telling Wetherby just adjust to use Harrogate,a place with lower job potential,no Uni & a smaller college. Whilst certainly there will be a decent amount of commuter traffic to Harrogate it won't compare to what goes towards Leeds (i wouldn't be surprised if Harrogate might be behind York also).

Regarding the route within Leeds they need to ditch Roseville Road/Regent Street, more so now the lights for the right turn from Regent St into Byron Street stay red for what seems like a light year and once on green they let around two or three vehicles through at most. Far simpler and quicker would be Roundhay Rd and the North Street bus lane to Vicar Lane. Now, the question is what happens then? I am not convinced the majority of passengers would want to be taken to the bus station, the odd one maybe but most will be travelling for work/shopping/leisure etc so would rather be taken closer to where they need to be. However, the bus station makes sense as a terminal point in order to save trekking across to City Square which you could argue is also not necessary, most passengers have usually alighted by the top of The Headrow. So, providing Vicar Lane is served before the bus station I think most people could cope with that, it's no different to arriving in Leeds on a 36 where most passengers are wanting to be in the city centre so alight on Vicar Lane, very few are still on after leaving Vicar Lane.
Admittedly my suggestion would mean no bus service on Roseville Road but realistically and in my experience next to nobody boards or alights on that section, indeed I remember the old LCT 27 & 31 using Roseville Rd and not many used it then! Nor is the suggested route via St.James a good one, Beckett Street can be nose to tail in the afternoon from Lincoln Green Rd right back to Harehills Rd.
Finally I would reinstate the limited stop conditions between Oakwood and Leeds although I'm not sure it will, this is one aspect where I think Transdev are contributing to slower inter-urban journeys by wanting to pick up maximum number of (local) passengers. Couple of years or so ago they started picking up at all stops into Leeds on the 36 down Chapeltown Rd, a retrograde step in my view because most regular passengers from that area have some form of First pre paid ticket so the 36 is stopping to pick up (mainly) ENCTS holders to the detriment of those travelling from Ripon/Harrogate who now suffer a slower journey.

Just to report on yesterday’s 16:04 X99 to Leeds. It arrived at the stop 10 minutes late, and into Leeds City Square 20 minutes late.
The traffic was surprisingly light. The usual hotspots at Oakwood Clock, Fforde Greene and the roundabout at the bottom of Roseville Road did not exist. The driver spent too long at each stop, because his English seemed limited, coupled with the fact that he probably didn’t know where people wanted to go in because he didn’t know the route. It would be far easier just to say £2 to everyone when they boarded, have the machine ready to issue a standard £2 ticket and get moving again.
The bus had 6 HVAC grills at the bottom of the front screen upstairs, and it also had a heated screen with the wires sandwiched between the lamination, like some cars. Neither were working. Condensation was running down the inside of the glass, and upstairs was cold again, on a gloomy, very wet day. No different from an old bus. Typical Transdev. Boasting about features that don’t work.

So have you told them or just once again come here to whinge. I reported a 36 Gemini that had a strange banging noise on the upper deck and got a thank you back from them for drawing there attention to it.

I don’t buy the idea that when First ran the service it ran bang on time every day Certainly a tweet to @harrogatebus in response to that advising of the X98 / X99 questionnaire would seem to concur; Well, you've managed to maintain the poor service that @firstwestyorks used to provide. Nice busses, shame about the service keeping to a timetable

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Transdev need to scrap these fancy buses and opt for some overall white dealer stock Plaxton Primos with Urban 90 seats.

If everyone posted a message complaining a bus, post school kicking out time and resultant road chaos, had not turned when it was actually 10 minutes late the forum would implode.

Don't think connexions would do better but I do think Transdev are using vehicles that don't suit the X98/9. They would have performed better on routes like Dalesway, Aireline or Hotline or for bloody pete sake they could have gone to Pendle Wizz to match it up with Witchway.

There's no way they'd make their money back by sticking them on Pendle Wizz. It would be great to have them on Aireline, but it would be short by 2 (3 in reality) vehicles.

What would you have used on the X98/X99 then? I’m also not sure where Connexions are getting extra drivers from here. It’s gone unnoticed that they’ve cut back as well, the X52 no longer runs to Ilkley, various services now have gaps at school times so they can use the same buses and drivers, the Otley minibus routes aren’t actually minibuses at all so they can interwork with schools, weekend services have been cut.

Read elsewhere that Connexions were going to drop the X1/A/B if they got the X98 / X99 but presumably unlike the 64 First were not willing to work the journeys Connexions would not.
