The return of the Peak bus 61A with ammendments. I would have it run from Leeds via Wakefield then non stop along the Denby Dale Road through to Holmfirth then as it's old route to Glossop where it would link with other services into the heart of the Peak District. Passengers from Huddersfield would be allowed discounted travel (The cost of getting to Holmfirth and back discounted) to compensate for the loss of the Huddersfield link. This was a popular service until the Glossop to Holmfirth/Huddersfield section got withdrawn. Which way would the route go between Leeds and Wakefield? via the 110 route? Would the route between Wakefield and Holmfirth be a more direct route of the 435/436? Not sure if there would be an appeal for a route to Glossop from Leeds and Wakefield and thanks to the EU ruling, it wouldn't be allowed in the real world. Wakefield to Glossop would just fit.

Yes it would follow the 110 toute on a non stop basis and run directly to Holmfirth stopping only in Denby Dale.

Right am going to turn this thread on its head. I think it would be good if we discussed current routes and how we would extend them, withdrawn sections etc instead of the usual 2 (myself and jimbob) posting the usual X32 etc etc.
I will start off by saying that i would reckon that the 780 Wetherby-Knaresborogh service was extended into Harrogate. I think this would rival service 770 on the Wetherby-Harrogate, but also Harrogate & Districts 100 services.

Hmm, sorry to sound so pesimistic and like a grumpy old man! But, really, are these routes you think of when sound asleep, is it to compete with actual companies that exist or the whole concept is completely fictitious? Like FUKB and Own the World which cater for your dream route needs where you compile fleetlists, design liveries and make timetables. Which in all fairness is more effective means of discussing such things!

Is there a need for extra capacity on this route, and would the well run independent operator of the 780 want to risk the wrath of Transdev by challenging them? I agree with you though Nick in that these sort of debates are preferable to just churning out old listings of defunct services!

Maybe there should be a new limited stop servie X8?
Leeds-Huddersfield like the X6, but via Whitehall Rd and Halifax instead of Bradford?
also service 901
Huddersfield- West Vale- North Dean- Sowerby Bridge- Sowerby- Midgley- Hebden Bridge
initially to run in gaps between the 900s to make a 2 hourly service Huddersfield- Hebden Bridgw

Maybe there should be a new limited stop servie X8? Leeds-Huddersfield like the X6, but via Whitehall Rd and Halifax instead of Bradford? So apart from where the route terminates at either end, the X8 is nothing "like" the X6. Wouldn't this be covering old routes that have since being withdrawn such as the X36 (was it) between Halifax and Huddersfield and the 224 between Halifax and Leeds.

Your X8 is simlar to mine, except with mine it ran via the present X6 and 576 routes.

How about this For an Idea:
843
Doncaster - Leeds - York - Maltan - Scarbrough
I know the journey will be about 4 hours, but the people of Doncaster will get a Direct Link to Scarbrough and new set of Destinations like York etc.. from Doncaster Frenchgate Interchange.

This is what I would do if I owned Longstaff in Mirfield. They currently run the hourly 205 between Dewsbury and Mirfield via Ravensthorpe, Northorpe and Crossley/Old Bank using Low floor Wright buses.
Cancel service 205 and introduce a new every 15 minute service "A". It follows the same route, except in Dewsbury where it turns up past the rail station, down through the market area and into the bus station, then back to Mirfield as per the current service. This would be a circular and pick up passengers at the rail station and markets for stops towards Mirfield. Optare Solo's would be used on this service. The requirement would be 4 buses Monday to Saturday.
Advantages: - provide a direct interchange opportunity at Dewsbury for people along the route. Passengers no longer need to trudge up/down between bus and rail stations. - possible introduction of through ticketing in conjunction with Northern and TPX (e.g. plus-bus). - provide a high quality service that is operated by brand new buses that are driven by friendly drivers, as opposed to many of the drivers currently working for Arriva. - increased frequency on a well used route would result in an increased number of passengers using the service to either go shopping or connect with the train. - the more passengers that use the service, the lower the fares can be.
If this service were to prove popular, increase it's frequency to every 12 or 10 minutes and possibly operate a limited service on Sundays.
An expansion of the network could take place with an every 15 minute "B" service operating from Heckmondwike to Dewsbury via the current 254 route then the circular route past the rail station in Dewsbury.

Using the motorways could make the route a disaster as if the bus gets stuck in traffic, the service will become unreliable. I would have it run along the north section of the Leeds Ring Road from New Pudsey to Seacroft. It would probably take the same time anyway.
Joint workings on routes by different companies is now a thing of the past and the case where two depots runs a particular route so if a problem does occur on the route. Only the one depot suffers and it can be easier to pump in resources at short notice to get the service running back to normal.
The other problem with this route is your tachographs and driving hours. Where would your First Halifax drivers take compulsary breaks on route. The first driver from Halifax would have no driver out at Scarborough to relief him for an hour break unless you plan on buses laying over for an hour. This would increase the PVR and running costs which would eat away at any profit margins generated from the route.
Another avenue to take is have two drivers who swap with each other along route as they do with National Express. Still this would be expensive and flaw the whole idea of the service.
What would you do about recovery of a broken down bus. The east coast is an awfully long way for a First fitter to get to and vice versa at Halifax and Bradford for a Coastliner fitter to get out to.
Finally, free travel passes would be the majority of the passengers on this service which you don't get as much revenue for carrying one of these as a full fare paying adult. This could make the route operate at a loss. The journey time as well could discourage most people from using the service. From Halifax, you're talking over 4.5hours at least to Scarborough. Your first journey at 8am, that after lunchtime you finally get there. Not much of a day out!

Here's one which could get the people at Keighley Bus Museam thinking. Using the soon to be aquired Arriva Hecky Dennis 801, a summer route operating on Tuesday's and Saturdays from mid July to the end of August from Keighley to Patley Bridge could operate. The route would be from Keighley Rail Station (saves bus station charges) non stop to the Riddlesden area stopping on Bradford Road, then up over the moors to Ilkley stopping only at the Cow and Calf hotel, then non stop to Otley Bus station, then non stop via Farnley and that B road (B6125?) to Fewston Reservoir, then along that B road non stop via the Golf Balls (US defence base) at Blubberhouses and the road via Summerbridge to Patley Bridge. I'm hoping the route would be under the limit for tachograph requirement, although I'm pushing it a bit. However, at least some shavings to the mileage could be made such as running it from Ilkley via Askwith to Farnley instead of via Otley town itself, allowing for a stop on the road to Farnley to compensate the loss of the Otley stop. There may even be a shorter route from Fewston to Patley Bridge as the former Harrogate and District route 60 used to run along roads a good distance nearer to Patley Bridge from the Golf Balls to get to Fewston.
The service would run to Patley Bridge at 10am, getting there roughly at noon, then returning at 6pm. This would even allow time for people to travel to and from Harrogate if they wished.
