I bet they don't last six month's. Before anyone accuses me of negativity, then just look to Yorkshire Line a couple of years ago. SGI are an inexperienced firm taking on the nations third biggest operator in their own backyard, Lets face it they aint got a hope in hell. What makes it worse is they are trying to compete using clapped out sheds against an operator who have recently invested many millions in renewing their fleet in this area recently. Maybe SGI would have been better taking a punt in establishing new routes in rural areas where there is little or no competition, But to even try to compete with Arriva isn't brave, it's crass stupidity. They wont last long.

The owner is an investor so he might put thousands of his own money into getting it going but he'll get it all back in a few years. If he doesnt succeed in Arriva land he might move elsewhere, it isnt hard been based in Dewsbury because it is a central location for all of Bradford, Leeds, Halifax & Wakefield.

I know everyone has to start somewhere, but I just can't see how these kind of operations can make much if any money. I also don't think they show the industry in the right light. As noted previously Arriva have invested heavily in new vehicles it's just a step backwards for the industry when these small operators run sheds on services, it does nothing for the image of bus travel and won't help to attract people out of their cars.

Sheds? First, Stagecoach, Arriva & Transdev all operate older vehicles on front line service day in, day out. Also, all this negativity, TLC started somewhere. They've slowly grown, albeit operating tendered services. Finally, whats to say the management team are inexperienced? Do we know everyone of their employees and their past?

I know that the manager has never been involved in buses before. He knows a little bit & is a bit of an enthusiast.

To be fair to them, they plugged a gap where there was not a service which Arriva found unprofitable a few years ago. But as soon as they got going in the service Arriva immediately initiated a service of theirs to run them out of town. Unlike Yorkshire line, they did not get beyond their depth immediately, its usually best that they start off with one route and gradually expand unlike Yorkshire line who set up the 53 and 105/6 which competed with the big operators with existing frequent services. I say good luck to them.

Sgi are doing a dewsbury to Thornhill within next few months and the mylleniums are going to be put on 288 when they been repainted Into company livery of purple and white. Then the dart will be painted and used as a back up bus. The minibus they have at the may make an appearance within next few weeks!

This will undoubtedly lead to failure as Arriva add more buses onto this corridor to try to drive them away. I really think that the company should start as small as possible and look to grow untapped areas. Get a couple of mini-buses and find an area with a poor or no-existent service and then look to start a relatively high frequency service. It works in Halifax with TJ Walsh - why not try a similar thing?

They don't have to run it by you as to where they operate to or at what frequency they choose. There's only so many routes available and to say Arriva have retaliated already shows what kind of a threat Arriva feel they could become.

I don't really think there is any need for the attitude in your post. I am wholly supportive of new entrants into the bus market but like many others have doubts about the ability to run the 288, let alone any other new service sustainably. The fact that the 288 has a completely random timetable run with a bus that internally looks like it is under repair does not bode well in my view. The point about TJ Walsh is about mitigating risks. A lower cost operation with smaller buses will undoubtedly reach break-even faster than an operation with fuel thirsty bigger buses. Start small, grow and flourish (TJ Walsh, TLC, Tates, TM Travel) or start with a bang and go out with a whimper (Yorkshire Line).

Dirty tricks by Arriva?
SGI tweeted earlier that Arriva were picking up passengers in Dewsbury Bus Station and that passengers should not board as they weren't insured.

Dirty tricks by Arriva? SGI tweeted earlier that Arriva were picking up passengers in Dewsbury Bus Station and that passengers should not board as they weren't insured. This is the same SGI that had a bus on the stop in Dewsbury 15 minutes before departure, preventing the 130 from accessing the stand to pick up its passengers! Are they sure the 280 wasn't just performing a driver change?

Dirty tricks by Arriva? SGI tweeted earlier that Arriva were picking up passengers in Dewsbury Bus Station and that passengers should not board as they weren't insured. It isn't very professional of them to be tweeting slagging off other operators. They seem to be more concerned with having a go at Arriva than establishing their own reputation.

It's hardly UK North v Stagecoach Manchester or Premiere v Trent Barton One old bus with half it's seats removed versus an Enviro 200. They are making a bigger deal of it than it actually is.
