Using a bus of this size makes financial sense as the fuel, tax, insurance etc. costs will be far lower meaning that it will take less passengers per trip to break even. Has anyone asked Arriva on their facebook page or twitter why they have made such an obvious anti-competitive move with the 280? The answers given to the local paper are just ridiculous!

There's something about that body on the Dart that doesn't look right. It seems a bit ungainly.

Yes with the owner not having any experience in the bus industry he will have to have a restricted licence for a few months to show he is capable of running a bus operation.

Yes with the owner not having any experience in the bus industry he will have to have a restricted licence for a few months to show he is capable of running a bus operation. Experience isn't really necessary. As long as the appointed transport manager for the license has the necessary CPC qualifications they can apply for a full license. www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/PSV%20Operator%20Licensing%20Guide.pdfThe guide on PSV operators licenses state that restricted licenses can be issued to operators who operate vehicles with less than 16 seats. However they are not in the business of operating PSVs for hire and reward or service work. How has SGI got around this then running stage carriage work on a restricted license?

However they are not in the business of operating PSVs for hire and reward or service work. How has SGI got around this then running stage carriage work on a restricted license? The categories that can have a restricted license are: 1. PSVs adapted to carry less than 8 passengers 2. PSVs adapted to carry 16 or less passengers when not used as part of a paseenger transport operation (so vehicles for hotels/nurseries etc) 3. PSVs operated by organisations whose main occupation is not that of PSV operator. This is sort of designed around allowing taxi companies to run a couple of larger vehicles alongside their normal taxis. No more than 2 vehicles can be operated under a restricted license tough there may well be other criteria put on the license. It has nothing to do with experience, you still have to be a qualified CPC holder and once you are you can hold a full O-license if you want. The operation of a regular local bus service like this would raise the issue of whether the organisations main occupation is that of running PSVs, it gets complicated and would probably depend on how separate this commercial bus operation is from the rest of the organisation - the more standalone it operates the less it can use the rest of the organisation as the excuse for a restricted O-license.

Someone wearing a black Sg tea shirt was handing out Service 288 leaflets in Dewsbury Bus Station this morning and monitoring the loadings on other services operating in the area.

Not a bad idea, try and spread the word to the locals and inform them about the service before Arriva's 280 starts on Saturday.

Someone wearing a black Sg tea shirt was handing out Service 288 leaflets in Dewsbury Bus Station this morning and monitoring the loadings on other services operating in the area. Spoke to my regular driver and he was saying they got this service for 6 months and other proposed services would be to link Dewsbury and Batley with Cleckheaton. Linking retail park with Drighlington and bradford. One he mentioned was as I posted previous the dewsbury-batley-leeds service. Also looking into some tender work too. He was also saying loading per day on the 288 is averaging to about 50-60 passengers. Lets see what happens on saturday. I catch this bus everyday at 1.35 and been a fair few getting off at retail park when im getting off.
