Article appeared in the Press on Saturday that Pullman have acquired trading rights of Stephensons www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/15902156.York_Pullman_takes_over_Stephensons_of_Easingwold/There were 5 or 6 on the 31x Saturday heading north from Easingwold at around 1230 which isn't great but depends on what Transdev want to do with it, if they can find a way to effectively plug it into the Coastliner network at York they could offer an enhanced daily service in summer to Helmsley as to Whitby.

There were 5 or 6 on the 31x Saturday heading north from Easingwold at around 1230 which isn't great but depends on what Transdev want to do with it, if they can find a way to effectively plug it into the Coastliner network at York they could offer an enhanced daily service in summer to Helmsley as to Whitby. I would have thought that that would be a fairly quiet bus anyway. Anyone going to York would only have had an hour in town before catching the bus back out, but anyone going from York is leaving it a bit late for a day out in Helmsley. Sure, passengers going to Easingwold will have had plenty of time there, but is that going to be as popular a destination? The 31X is a lot busier in the summer – it's always going to be a quiet time of year on routes like that, serving touristy areas. I'm sure Transdev can hold their nerve until the summer and see how it goes when trade picks up.

Plus I don’t think poor loadings on the 29/31 were directly the reason why Stephenson’s have gone out of business, and they ran it commercially. It isn’t as of Transdev have taken on something that is a basket case or that was previously tendered so I don’t think it’s a worry. Journeys in the wrong direction I’m the middle of January won’t exactly be representative of the whole route.
I expect they will change the timetable to ensure all vehicles are properly diagrammed though as at the moment they’ve got diagrams that used to link up to other stuff that Transdev aren’t doing.

Knowing how Transdev like to develop links with other operators when its suit them (through ticketing onto Yorkshire Tigers Airport service at Harrogate for example) I wonder if they will develop a link with EYMS at Helmsley and axe the Kirkbymoorside section of the 31X.

Transdev have posted on Twitter they're launching a new 'York & Country' brand for ex-Stephensons routes, looks smart. mobile.twitter.com/i/web/status/962013187733254144I don't know why I assumed Helmsley would become another branch of the Coastliner, they experimented with an additional 30 min frequency from Leeds to Ashley Park then Heslington/Uni but they've since launched cityzap to try and cater for the York-Leeds market.
