Possibly the 62 may run on the opposite half hour to the 962 over this section, giving a combined 30 minute(ish) service between Otley, Burley & Ilkley. Given that there are already 3 buses an hour between the X84 and X52, as well as the circuitous 962, it hardly seems like it's a route in desperate need of additional capacity... Agree with you as regards capacity, but I think that a route with more than 1 bus an hour is more likely to sell returns, day and weekly tickets than one with just a basic hourly service.

The X52 and X84 do not serve Ben Rhydding which the 62 does and provides a direct link from their to Otley compared with the 962.

The simple reason that they run through to Otley is because of the Wharfedale links routes and I guess some drivers get the 62 between Keighley and Otley for their shifts. Got it in one! 👍

Now I've managed to get hold of a well formatted printed timetable rather than online efforts, I have to say that new route 81 looks very strange, and I can't see it being a long term solution.
The new 83 that diverts not just via Kirkburton but also Highburton and then also Lepton won't be popular, it now takes 45 minutes to get from Shepley to Huddersfield.
The 85 timetable is messy and seems to involve lots of dead running to/from the depot and the various termini as the in and out trips don't match up.

I'm not a fan of using 2 digit numbers, particularly those in Bradford that run mixed in with all First Bradford's 6xx services. It makes some sense renumbering the 770 the 70 in Leeds, although there already is a 70. I'm surprised they haven't renumbered the 662 although 62 is of course already used. I would have thought the 760 was quite a well known rememberable number, and it rolls off the tongue, if it was the 764 he'd have a point. I'm surprised Coastliner has so far kept its 840, 843 numbers. the 843 has always been at least '43' which is what it was when it first started in 1928 when the coastliner was first started in 1983 it was a 743 then changed to 843 in 86'. if 840 was shortened to 40 it would cause confusion with first leeds' 40 service which runs on part of the 840 route. I can remember when Yorkshire traction introduced the X62 Huddersfield leeds express this caused confusion with the X62 hull service in the bus station

The new TransDev Keighley 67 is confusing for me, as it was used for the Bradford - Skipton via Manningham route many years ago, the original number for the route via Thornton was 57.
