My guess is good old-fashioned competition; market share of journeys to York in Huntington (100%) and Haxby/Wigginton (nearly 100%) will be key as to whether First wants to see another operator on the 13.

I don't think they will compete as connexions buy buses from first and I heard they won't compete with them.

Hmm... replacing the existing service by First at a guess. Believe that First had decided to give uo the service a few months ago, and had actually asked other operators to step in. It will be interesting to see if passenger numbers drop, and passengers transfer onto other parallel First services.

I've not heard what, if anything, is happening for Holly Bank, maybe Transdev could do something with the dead time on the bus used for the 36?

It will be interesting to see if passenger numbers drop, and passengers transfer onto other parallel First services. Thinking about it, that could be the achilles heel for Connexions unless unless First Day & period tickets are valid on both operators. Otherwise I would have thought they would need to compete quite aggressively (very cheap fares, 20 min or better frequency from town to Huntington) to attract enough patronage to make it work? They could extend from Haxby to Clifton Moor Tesco via Stirling Road, but ideally the route in Haxby would need to be swapped with the 1 for access through Wigginton, and the service 20 link to Monks Cross could be cut as a result.

Don't forget that there is the 'All York' ticket, not much more than a First Day (£4.50 compared to £3.80) that covers all buses within the city boundary. I would be staggered if there was any interavailability of tickets beyond that – not least because a large part of the reason for needing the 13 is that it serves places other First routes don't go. Copmanthorpe will not see any First services – Connexions will be competing with Transdev there. Across Haxby there are areas that are half a mile or more from the #1 where people won't consider it a choice. If you're travelling from Haxby or New Earswick to the Foss Islands or Stonebow area, you've got a bus that takes you straight there or a long walk. With a lower cost base and lower profit requirements, there's a good chance that they can make this route work where First couldn't.

Bit of a sop there to the people of Acomb and Foxwood, an extra 5 mins on the bus to Heslington East only - or change and probably take longer. Then there's people living to the east of the city centre and working at Clifton Moor who see their journeys cut at Rougier Street.
They mentioned a 56 serving Kings Manor, where's this going and at what frequency? There are a lot of predominantly elderly folk who use the 6 to get across town from outside the hospital, it's vital that the 56 either terminates at Burton Green roundabout or loops round Burton Stone Lane to the hospital.

I think I got the wrong end of the stick here. Assuming the 66 follows the 44 route, the only 'bus hubs' left without 9 buses an hour are Stonebow and Theatre Royal. Why would the 56 need to stop at the station rather than follow the 6 route through town?

If they can sustain a 4 bus operation on an average fare concession reimbursement that works out at approx 65-70p per passenger carried then good luck to them.

Presumably retiming the Otley Road services in front of Transdevs 6 with consequential changes to the services that interwork

Absolutely correct, it's fun playing leapfrog around Beckwith Knowle and cold bath road, I now work for conx, I spoke to the gaffer about these timetable changes as I was following the 6 transdev all afternoon round that estate

Yes, but how much in front. The sensible thing would be a 15 min interval for both operators combined.

This is going off topic a bit but the 36 in terms of Leeds-Harrogate already has competition from the train which will intensify once electrification occurs and raises the issue whether the impact be as severe as on the Bradford-Ilkley corridor. "we can do better", um...so are x6 / x6a going run in the morning peak and Sundays?

Should ripon ever reopen their station then the 36 would have problems regardless, going down the x6 corridor wasn't it conx that revived that service after major public complaint that they had no service then transdev tried to tread on toes and bully them off the route by changing their times to get ahead, I agree with someones comment have them both spread apart at 15 min, ive been a bus driver for both major and smaller company's, all may be good with £11 an hour and new buses , but that's why u do Sundays and bank holidays and lates, but smaller company's just trying to make an honest crust without giving shareholders free money to sit and enjoy villas in the sun, I like to be called by name not just a number

Shareholders do not get their money for free, they get it for lending out money to businesses, creating jobs, services and exports. In bus companies it works out abt 1.5p for every £1 of bus fare, which is good value. Shareholders do not sit in the sun in their villas either. Most shareholders are ordinary folk whose money in pensions, insurance and banks is lent out as shareholdings. Smaller companies borrow directly from banks or private individuals and have to pay for the borrowings just the same.
