The 78 Serves one stop in town and that is on eastagte. Wouldn't it be better if it served two or three. Maybe the stop across from the light(R something or other) and one outside gallery (you choose).

Does anyone have the number of links colton has had over the past years.
8-Used to terminate at Colton to do the 78 route from Colton-Seacroft/Seacroft-Colton before returning to pudsey 29/30 which ran Colton-Moortown Corner via cross gates,Harehills,Burmantofts, St.James then to Moortwon Corner via Street lane.Probably only busy with the OAP'S who had appointments at St.Jimmy's. I remember seeing this in service with only the bus driver. 78-The Current link(Wonder how long this will last as i only saw one passenger on board it yesterday) 88-When Black Prince had this route.

Does anyone remember the 41 Bramley-leeds-seacroft bus station, now filled in by 49, seacroft part kept by 50. This route was quite good, it ran along waterloo lane in bramley, now the 49 has to go around via upper town st, then down the steep hill on broad lane.
It even interworked with the 40 which went all the way to Pudsey via stanningley now covered by 73(leeds-pudsey), they should just make the 40 go to Pudsey anyway , it still would have been a popular cross journey experience.
42 also went to seacroft via 50a route from Oakwood onwards that was another good route.

that 563 used to run on to beckfoot school as B49 that ran back to denholme for schools then run empty to halifax before beckfoot cancelled the route there borrowed a old broken down leeds alteanean that atlantean was a great bus, remember it wel, if only todays buses were as good! ONly operated school days that route, never got to go on it I did the route once on a GMPTE Fleetline and i was the only one on it at the start and the only one on at Bingley (other than the driver, obvoiusly!). Never stopped, even at Denholme. Came down Manywells Brow, round the war memorial and off towards Harden without stopping. Fantastic journey!

I can also remember a Roe bodied Atlantean on the X84. That was cool! I can remember that the Atlantean when coming to the end of its Leeds life(if you like) was often seen on the 81/82, 44/44A/44B, 38, 2/3/3A/12/13/13A and 15(When Leeds had this route). I cant remember ever seeing a Atlantean on the X84. What about the 11/11A St.Jimmy's-White Rose Centre went St.Jimmy's to Leeds via present 42 route then out to Armley,Wortley Lower Wortley, Cottingley before terminating at White Rose. I think for the last 6-12 Months of service it received an extension to Morley(Present 46 Route). Dart's were often seen on this route. (11 or 11A would go Holbeck-Worltey-Armley before rejoining the the main route to St.Jimmy's) Wasn't there ever a service from Moor Allerton-Seacroft? A Atlantean was often the bus seen on it. 21 service number comes to mind ???Would go though all the estates to get to seacroft i think it went via RoundhayPark,Fearnville,Gipton,Harehills,Halton,Whitkirk,Cross gates.

What's more, it was one of the older ones with the lower driving position and diagonal windscreen wipers. Made the climb out of Otley surprisingly easily. Love them buses!

The 38 Now terminates at Moortown corner. But before where did it use to terminate. I know about Gledhow but i am sure it went further?

It still terminates at Gledhow, it only does the short runs between Whingate and Moortown Corner on late evenings where the route only needs one bus.
The 38 once did stretch as far as Colton Sainsburys but retreated and was part replaced by the 29 and 30 which were eventually withdrawn in 2005 if I recall.

At one point the 21 ran between Moor Allerton Centre and Leeds via Brackenwood and Roundhay Road, partly funded by the Moor Allerton branch of Sainsbury's.
You are perhaps confusing this with the 29/30 which ran between Birchwood Hill and Colton, or the 38 which used to extend to Colton.

But i am sure that when the 21 was around when the 52/51 (51/51A now) was around so wouldn't this service been a off park service IE Leeds-Moor Allerton-Leeds then the bus would go onto a different service altogether. Bit like the 2B 3 or 4 journeys a day or am i again wrong!!

I remember the last pair of low-driving position Atlanteans 6182/90 at Bramley - they often worked 81/82 and remember one epic journey on the 73 on one. Also remember a couple of routes numbered 85 - the most recent one being the 780 renumbered, which I would use on Holt Park runs if possible, the other being a Cross Gates to Leeds service via Oakwood, not an obvious route! The Darts used were more than big enough. The 42 operating to Cross Gates as well every 30 minutes, with the remaining buses terminating in Gipton is also in memory. I can well remember making 3 attempts to get from the Headrow to Cross Gates one Saturday, only to find that 2 relief drivers hadn't turned up/been rostered and I got no further than Eastgate on a 42 (dreadful ex Glasgow Olympian) and a 50 (much better Royale). The network was recast shortly after in 2001 and things seemed to improve.
I also well remember a Quickstep Atlantean, possibly 6219 but not certain, escaping onto the 96, very rare at the time, as this route was booked Metrobus or Scania N113. Gave a reasonably quick run up the Otley Road to Lawnswood as I recall. Atlanteans were usually seen in Headingley on 92s from Quickstep at Kirkstall, although Bramley's 38 and 91 routes would often have them as well. The 38 did go to Colton via Cross Gates at the time.

Nice little background onto the Atlantean. A few routes you left out though when this bus was in its prime:
732-736 alongside the Scania's(N113 and Alexandra RH)/MCW Metrobus 28-Infrequent but it did appear on these X84-Again Infrequent but would make an appearance 97-Yes you guessed it Infrequent but would make the odd appearance
You stated that the 96 had the MCW and Scania N113. May i correct you. The Scania N113 would make appearances on the 732-736/X84/780(85)/97(755)/97A/731/28(You could guarantee to see at least 4 or even 5 on all these routes) and if it was ever scene on the 96 it was due to roster's/booking of the bus going wrong somewhere along the lines or due to one MCW metrobus been taken out for maintenance etc.

Maybe the MCWs needed lots of maintenance?!Conversely most 732-736 duties I saw were MCW Metrobuses! X84, 731, 780, 655/755 and 28 were nearly always Scania double-decks, though the odd Metrobus would escape onto them, evenings in particular seeing them on 28s. Scania L94s meant for 74/74A/75 could also turn up fairly randomly on 93, 95 and 96, annoyingly so at peak times (standing up for 45 mins on Otley Road!) Scania N113s could also deputise for anything, and still do. The 95 would use mostly Metrobuses, but again I rode on Scanias a number of times on the route, both double and single decker variants. Service 1 had some odd duplicates to and from Ring Road, and any of Kirkstall's double deckers could be on these - again I had Scanias quite frequently on these. They also worked virtually all duties after midnight on 95/995. Vehicle variety seemed to decline markedly when the ex London Olympians arrived, the 95, 96 and 96A being allocated these pretty solidly. With apologies if we're losing the thread a little here...

You are certainly correct about the MCW Metrobus. Scania RH (not Ex-Black Prince) and Scania N113 were the kings of all those routes you mentioned but at least all of those routes would get at least 2 MCW metrobuses if not 3. 732-736 service shared all the buses based at kirkstall mainly the MCW Metrobus along with the Atlantean , Leyland Olympian (Roe Bodied) which were quite frequent sights on the 732-736 services (alongside and Scanias Double Decker’s N113/Alexandra RH).
When the northern counties palatine Volvo Olympian arrived things changed dramatically. 28 97-97C X84 95 and the 96 would often get these buses (I hated them) alongside the MCW metrobuses . 1 got the new Fusions which if a double Decker was to ever appear on this route it would be at night. 33/33A got all of the royles. Then when the ex-London dual door Olympians came once again things change and for the better (except one route)
MCW Metrobuses decreased in size at kirkstall with only two or three left till about 2006 where all of them went. The Palatine Olympian was gone for good (thank god). The 96/95 got all of the Olympians with a few escaping onto the 33/33A routes. The X84 once again got the Royles back and the 97/97A got the royles to alongside sharing with the 33/33A X84 and 28. Then the Olympians started on the 28 and they have stayed on this route. 96/95 shared them between them and also the Olympians would make appearances on the 97 and 33/33A. The X84 would often get one or two. Today it is a very different story
28- Olympians Royales and Scania Singles(Ex-Black Prince only on Saturdays) share this route 33/33A- Olympians and Royales are often seen on theses routes 92- Olympians and Royales (Infrequent) 95- Olympians 96- Olympians and Royales 97- Olympians and Royales X84- One Royale No Olympian and all those stupid striders
So the 28/33-33A/92/95/96/97 have received a upgrade in buses and the X84 the longest route of them all has received a downgrade which is not on at all. I say First start thinking of this route and either put all the Scania L113’S it has on this route or the Royales/ Olympians should start making an appearance on this route once again like it did in 2007(EARLY)/All of 2006.

76 seems to ring a bell. It used to run from Moor Grange to Kirkstall but there is a picture of it running through Leeds. Run by MCW Metrobuses based at Kirkstall.

In my treatise about routes and buses I forgot to mention the 4/4C as was in pre-FTR days. This long, cross-Leeds route required at least 14 buses, and was regularly Atlantean worked, although as more and more were withdrawn, the route became a roll-call of all Bramley's step-entrance buses - Dennis Darts, Scania N113/Striders, Olympian/Roe, Volvo Olympian/Royale and some of the remaining Atlanteans. Occasionally a low-floor bus for the 16s would stand in on the 4 as well - did any other routes see quite this variety? I definitely rode on each type on this route at least once in the space of a couple of years. Service 73s allocation was similarly varied.

A corrections for you:- We have not had any Volvo Olympian/NC Palatine Double decks at Kirkstall, what we did have was Dennis Arrow/NC Palatine 2's ex Capital Citybus. (And a big chear went up at LKG when they were sent to Ince!!) Below a list of what should be allocated to these routes in brackets:- 28- Olympians, Royales and Scania Singlesshare (Should be Dual Door RH Olympians only, but during the evening 2 Royale's are used by the night drivers interworked with 96. Saturday gets 1 single deck too) 33/33A- Olympians and Royales (Royales & 1 Single deck at peaktime. No dual doors due to bus station ban) 92- Olympians and Royales (Infrequent) (3 Dual Door Unlilink Olympians only) 95- Olympians (anything dd including the other 3 Unilink's. Royale's should be used by night drivers) 96- Olympians and Royales (Dual Door Olympians, but during the evening 2 Royale's are used by the night drivers interworked with 28.) 97- Olympians and Royales X84- One Royale No Olympian and all those stupid striders (2 Royale's during day, rest are any sd. 1 extra royale at evening peak, with 1 Royale & 1 sd during evening) On a personal note, I would rather drive a MCW any day, than the Dennis Arrows that we had, or the Dual Door Olympians that we currently have.

Out of interest how much did Kirkstall's ex WYRCC's VR's appear on the Leeds Northern services?
I moved to Leeds in 1994 and there were only a handful left (although York still had plenty) and they were VERY hard, at that stage, to pin down in regular service.
Oddly the last LKG VR I had came storming past my (then) front door on Belle Vue Road on a 63 which was almost solid 32xx darts, with the occasional 24xx 709D in the evening.
