Tempo 776 broke down today on the way to Rochdale. The fan belt snapped & the driver who came to the rescue with 310 said it has already happened to a lot of the Solo's... so it is a fault by Optare by fitting cheap belts. Or it a fault with the "Engine Provider" using cheaper and or poorly aligned components. Are the Solos the same ones which are rather fast, maybe they should cut them back a little............

Surely it's MAN or Mercedes not Optare to blame?

well it was being driven by a driver to the depot 'out of service' but seemed fine so we will probably see back in action in the next few days.

I saw a UID ALX200 Dart in Wakey BS today, it broke down whilst leaving with passengers on in the parking bays. It was then replaced with Ikarus 53. The passengers remained on the bus while it was broke down and the replacement arrived. This might be the reason.

as I understand it 193 broke down last week and was took to belle isle to get repaired. I then saw it in Dewsbury yesterday around dinner time being driven back to Dewsbury Depot. RE the ALX 200 breakdown yesterday in Wakey BS, Dewsbury don't send out a replacement bus anymore if it's too far away from the depot so most probably they were waiting for the next bus on that route and were put onto that. Unless it was the 128 or 212 which are the only Dewsbury runs which run hourly from Wakey.

I know for sure it wasn't 11

I know for sure it wasn't 11 If it was an Ikarus then there where only 4 runners to choose from 11 in Interurban which you say it wasn't, 13 & 54 which are still in Sandstone and Aquramarine and 56 which is Interurban.

Arriva Spetra 706 was removed from service this afternoon when there was a fault on the NSF Anti-lock brakes.
The bus left and then returned to the stand 3 times before being replaced by 634

It could have been 56 then, but I thought this was withdrawn. You will require a re-think then, 56 is still in service and in regular daily service. I think that 56 was initially reported as the one with the blown engine but the actual one with the engine failure is 53. The other one which failed earlier in the year 29 was withdrawn due to a structural problem. It could be possible to to use the running units from 29 in 53. Arriva might had done that had they been short of buses or 53 was slightly newer or should that be less old.

Not sure whether there had been a breakdown, but a lowloader truck with 'Bus & Coach Recovery' all over it was squeezing it's way out of Russell Street in Keighley yesterday lunchtime.

They tend to use low loaders for new deliveries etc. like for when they are travelling long distances on the motorway.

What about if the engine is unreliable?

What about if the engine is unreliable? I wouldn't want a new bus with an unreliable engine

Neither would I, but it might be a second hand one that is unreliable like has been sat in a depot or a storage compound for ages.

The various scrap yards in Barnsley don't use low-loaders and it is unusual for the usual breakdown contractors appear to prefer a suspended tow as well.
The only time I have seen a low-loader used is following an accident when the police would have been keen to preserve the evidence.

I have seen buses going down the Motorway (Not from around here) on Low Loaders with no visable damage.
