The 373 was still running in Coincide with NC. It doesn’t change until the 18th!

It doesn’t change until the 18th! yes but it's not a new service though. It doesn't exist at the moment. It has existed before.

Like others have said, the 373 isn’t running now, but did exist in the past.

Something interesting, First buses seems to be promoting the service change for 501/X1 which will be branded as the "Elland Line." Whether this will contain branded vehicles or not I am unsure. With WYCA wanting to roll out core bus networks I am pretty sure Calderdale was next on the list judging by the proposed map. It would be nice to have lines like: Hipperholme Line 255, 548/9 Sowerby Bridge Line 574, 577, 579, 586, 587 Illingworth Line 521/2/3 Mixenden Line: 509/510/511/512/513/524 Pellon Line: 20, 509/510/511/512/513, 530 Highroadwell Line: 21, 532, 541/2, 546 Etc. Evidence for the Elland line is at www.firstbus.co.uk/halifax-calder-valley-huddersfield/routes-and-maps/elland-lines-501-x1

That will probably be the extent this new service will be promoted - a plain text page on the website

Advertising and branding is their absolute weak point. I would love to see them go all out shouting and screaming about these services, and not give up. They are going to need to because keeping those evening and morning journeys afloat is going to be a challenge. Little, or nobody, is going to be able to connect with their local routes because most of them end before 10pm, or earlier. It's similar with morning journeys. For hours, in the morning and evening, they are banking on people who live among the route with little or no help from connecting services. The X1 is going to be a STRUGGLE.

I Agree the X1 at certain times might struggle - I'm guessing First have similar opinions & that might be why 'negotiated' the extra £1m BSIP funding to finally introduce these services. I Think for the early morning trips there's a missed opportunity, as the 4:40am from Halifax runs as an X1 it will miss out on the first lot of night shifts finishing both at Lowfields Ind Est & Huddersfield Royal Infirmary where it could of picked up some workers. Similarly running the 5am from Huddersfield as an X1 means it reduces how many 6am starters at Calderdale Royal or Halifax Town Centre could be picked up as well. As you said there isn't many connecting services so they should of focused on serving as many potential passengers enroute as possible at least pre-6:30am.

I think the X1 will actually be fine, as the existing 503 is mostly for simple commutes, there's still quite a fair amount of people who dont connect and just use it to get to work from what I've noticed.

Having a faster bus every 15 minutes is a great idea (along with later buses). It seems a shame to divide the existing evening service between the two routes.

The X1 has even less stops, and covers the areas with lower usage. Ainsley Top to Huddersfield? Not great. Elland? A tiny amount of stops, the outbound trip has 3 less stops in Elland, than inbound since it seems to go up an entirely different road, and then Calderdale Royal to Halifax? Another area of low usage with the only positive being the amount of people that come from the Hospital Serves too little, no chance of switching buses. Arriving into Huddersfield (23:11, 22:11) and arrivals into Halifax (22:34, 23:32, 00:32) little or no services at those times. It's why they need to be doing their best to promote the service.

That will probably be the extent this new service will be promoted - a plain text page on the website The page is now updated featuring a route map and new banner art for the upgrade, presumably designed by best impressions.

Love a bit of best impressions, a lot seem to have forgot how terrible branding was until they showed up. Let's hope first actually bought a whole branding package, rather than a few bits and bobs. It worries me that the graphics has vehicles in Olympia

Thankfully the X1/501 banner looks closer to the stuff MHD Partnership did with First for Glasgow a few years ago so I think it might be them that's done it.

A shame they haven’t done a special branded livery, even just an orange front in the style of HD Connect would have made an impact

One thing that's not been brought up here yet is; why has it taken First so long to scrap the 200? As a Huddersfield resident who goes out to the town centre in the evenings, I hardly see anyone on 200s. Why still run it? As a legal contrivance to give OFL a bus connection despite it being one stop apart from Leeds Road? Combined authority funding that slipped through the net until now? Either way, excited for the improvements to buses towards Halifax.
