Transdev explaining their decision to withdraw the CityZap on their website. Basically putting it down to the reduction in passenger numbers since the Covid pandemic started, as more people work from home. Also confirms that the SkyClass buses will be removed from the service after this weekend, which will then be readied for the X98/X99 routes between Wetherby and Leeds. www.transdevbus.co.uk/cityzap/cityzap-zaps

I wonder what vehicles will operate CityZap for the final few weeks now that its E400-MMCs are being reassigned to routes X98/99?

Now the Scania's are coming through, I'm banking on them using something like those ex National Express B7s or maybe just for a laugh one of those Urban Cool liveried single deckers lol, It's not going to be a priority service now that's for sure so anything will be thrown at it.

I think the excellent walk up Northern rail fare, together with it's roughly half hour journey time may have had something to do with Zap's demise as well, I know I switched as soon as I learned of the cheap walk up Northern day return and never looked back.

Could one of the ex NCT Scanias be being used - Bustimes appeared to indicate Versa 210 as assisting for the last two days until you look at its workings for the day and find it was on the 20 at the same time so probably 210 and 210x are logging as the same vehicle

Seemingly gone but not forgotten - Alex Hornby has tweeted " I have a feeling it won’t be the last time we hear the name #Cityzap."

Rumour has it he's thinking of re-naming the X98 City Zap so I've heard, additionally in the same rumour he's supposedly going to re number the X99 to just 99. I hope he does as I can't wait to hear the reaction of one member on here lol.

I can see the X being dropped - sounds too much like a Connexions service unlesss it was truely an express service like the X6 in Harrogate. Cities served by them are Leeds, Manchester, Preston, Ripon, Wakefield and York.

Thanks. That's really not clear from the summary timetable. I've only ever caught one of the morning ones from Beckwith which turned into a 6 en route, so I hadn't realised.

Where did this rumour originate?

And what is even remotely "Zap" about a service that is so slow, and at peak hours has now been slowed down even further? It ought to be called "Town to City Snail".
It would be sensible to remove the X because it's now confusing. X meant express - i.e. limited stop, and it isn't any longer. Connexions use X because it ties in with their name. On the X98/99, it is now just meaningless.
Someone has mentioned CityZap returning somewhere else in the future. It will probably remain in poor ideas bin with Vamooz. Will head office in Paris tolerate any more poor ideas?
Someone mentioned an express service from Ripon to Leeds, using the A1, M1, etc. If that called at Wetherby and was a fast alternative to the X98/99 snail, that could be a good idea.

Where did this rumour originate? Unsure where but the person who heard it has heard it from a few people who heard it from others and so on. It does have a connection to Connexions withdrawing the 412 however with one far fetched suggestion that City Zap could return to run from York via Wetherby to Leeds, there is a lot of housing planned out that way, including a new town somewhere along the 412 route, but I doubt it'll return that way myself.

There is a quote from Connexions in a York paper, which says that they lose money on the service and the local councils will not fund it, but also that there is apparently a tender process for some kind of replacement service. Perhaps that is where the rumour has come from?
It wouldn't ever be a fast service though, because it serves all the small villages with narrow streets and junctions between Wetherby and York. That's it's only chance of picking up passengers and revenue and the only chance of council funding. It's mainly old people with free passes.
And yes there is house building in Tockwith, but that won't help much. The rest of the planned building isn't on the route. It's on the A59 route. That's the more likely route to interest Transdev, because a lot of houses are planned, but that is a few years away yet, especially in the current climate.

They could be working on something behind the scenes. Could just be me but it seems like they're hyping something up?

Doncaster's recently become a city, with the withdrawal of the 405 recently that caused a number of complaints, could York to Doncaster be a possibility? Straight down the A19 then turning off to serve Selby & Brayton, before returning onto the A19 into Doncaster (possibly turning off A19 again to serve Eggborough village)

Obviously there is something that Transdev and Metro know that we don't. I wonder if it will return as a summer-only thing to take pressure off of Coastliner?
