Transdev Blazefield origionally started investment into the 233 Huddersfield-Skelmanthorpe-Denby Dale service from July 2021 with its new Denby Darts Brand and with the service number converted to D1 (DenbyDarts 1). A lot of locals of Denby Dale and Huddersfield as well as suggested to Alex Hornby to exstend the service towards Barnsley as Barnsley has been cut from a service operating from Huddersfield for a few years now since the Stagecoach Huddersfield operations.
As well as this, people suggested that Transdev should takeover the 29 service between Holmfirth and Penistone as TM Travel became foolish and decided to stop the service from being hourly and to run at unreliable times. I am sure quite a few people want a cheaper option towards Sheffield from Huddersfield as the trains are expensive.
Also something I was interested about was if services 83/83A/84/84A would be renumbered to D2 and D3 and become part of the Denby Darts brand. It is possible as two more Long Enviro 200s are due to arrive from Nottingham City Transport for Team Pennine. They may be fleet numbered 748 & 749.

I love these ideas, I think transdev would follow through with them too as it wouldn't be the craziest thing they have done. However, I did hear rumors that the next rebrand is meant to be for the 324? Would be super cool if they extended that route to Holmfirth.

Nearly 6 quid for a peak return! I often took the bus from Leeds to Hebden Bridge and Todmorden to avoid the rip off rail far at peak times, and I'm not prepared to finish my walk at 4, then hang about til half 6. If the bus is cheaper, there is a market provided that cheapness is well promoted.

It said that the train is expensive. Also 502 between Halifax and Keighley was reinstated last September during a pandemic. Also there was a tweet under the Holmfirth Explorer, HuddsQuick and KirkheatonQuick preview saying I am sad that DenbyDarts wasn't exstended to Barnsley and then Alex Hornby replied saying "who said we aren't?".

Nor did South Pennine. SP started a Saturday link as X22 a few years ago. Walsh ran the 504 to Deholme until they ceased. Yorkshire Tiger then were awarded a short term replacement for the 504 before the delayed introduction of the Calderdale tenders which included the 502 in September 2020 (not last Sept!).

Having done Stagecoach 235/236, the later 95A and Tates 24 (and odd 96A journey) through the years, cross boundary passengers are in penny numbers.

Re the 29, wasn't the reason for the infrequent service due to Transport for South Yorkshire cutting the funding a few years ago?

Re the 29, wasn't the reason for the infrequent service due to Transport for South Yorkshire cutting the funding a few years ago? I think you may be right on this one, SYPTE only wanted to subsidise so many journeys with WYCA not really that bothered about a joint subsidy package to create more journeys. SYPTE and WYCA don't seem to work together when it comes to cross boundary services, I believe it was the case for a number of services between Barnsley and Pontefract with both parties only subsidising what they wanted to subsidise and not jointly coming up with a more useful cross boundary network. For example, the creation of the 30 and 39 came about because SYPTE didn't want to continue funding any kind of cross boundary service in many of the areas the 30 and 39 serve, where as the WYCA only wanted to fund the West Yorkshire section of the previous link.

We need to stop relying on old past information on routes. If you trial routes then you can see if it can really be used. Take a look at the 502, it used to barely get used but now it is used.

I used to catch the 502 in the late nineties. I don't remember it being barely used. First dropped it, not because it was losing money, but because it wasn't making an 8% profit. They had a phase of doing this -and rather than cutting back the route, reducing its frequency or trying to promote it, withdrew it completely (though oddly, except for 4 trips on a Sunday which survived for another decade)

To be fair you cannot keep using the 502 as an excuse to recreate old links when the 502 was more of a joining of 2 routes (the 504 + restoring the 2nd bus per hour Denholme > Keighley) than a new service, plus theres many other factors that went into the 502s favour compared to most. Would it be smart when Transdev are wanting improved partnerships with the railways to start up against them? Getting the PTE to work out a way to reduce fares would be a better solution (£6 doesn't sound too bad for a peak time return to be fair) Maybe a Darton style solution where both WYMetro & SY Connect+ tickets are valid from Denby Dale could be the answer,or bringing back the old MetroMaster ticket. As for an hourly service from Holmfirth to Penistone,is there much point when there is very little between them? (from what i can think Hade Edge & Crow Edge are the 2 biggest settlements, neither are hardly big places) You'd be best off improving links from Holmfirth to its nearest stations (Brockholes or Honley would make the most sense) plus introducing a combo ticket - you'd at least have a better chance of gaining passengers compared to running hourly buses over the moors.

At the minute no operator as brought any brand new routes in to play for a few years but i agree 100% it would be best at the moment to strength localised connections is what's needed so using your example of improving links to Holmfirth with neighbouring villages Brockholes & Honley is one good one South Pennine's 309 could have good potential for Honley to Holmfirth service as it runs 2 trips 6 days a week. Stotts' H6 could provide better connections if the timetable flowed and ran full circulars First's 310 & 314 currently provide regular Connections between Holmfirth & Honley from early morning to late night with support from 308 & 316 during the day. Now with the inter area daysaver idea , does anyone know if the one CT Plus, Powells & South Pennine works as there's no real common connections with them to flow but could it be built on to say include, First, Stotts & Team Pennine to give more interconnectivity scope.

I have some more examples of resurrected routes. These ones aren't really resurrected but the regular service was cut and then reintroduced. 7 between Rawtenstall, Bacup and Todmorden had a regular service 2 decades ago. However, the services were then cut down to 3 buses per day in each direction however regular use cut it up to hourly however it was degraded to 2 hourly as the hourly service was too frequent. However, it still keeps the regular link. As well as this, 402 used to be the only bus between Leeds and Selby which was an infrequent service as the 403 was between Sherburn-in-Elmet and Selby. The service was then made to be regular.

With the 7 that can't really count as it's had several changes that much under Rosso and since merging with Transdev.
