I know it's a bit early to ask but I know Arriva have registered a route and timetable change for services 148/148A/149 I'm just wondering if anyone might know what's happening?

TLC to withdraw 653 Bradford-Otley from 22/07/17 according to notice posted on buses Pity, as it does seem a useful link. I have noticed Otley better connected to central Leeds than Bradford.

The withdrawal of the 653 is a shame - that's the end of the old legacy routes (650/1/2/3/4/5/6/755 in the 90s) that used to offer a frequent service between Shipley and Guisely. Now there's just the hourly 737 (plus the 649 covering a little of the route, itself truncated at both ends compared to what it used to be).

To be honest they haven't exactly gone out and pushed this service into people's heads, where's the marketing? A manager actually walking around Otley stopping people and asking them if they know about this direct cheaper than the rip off train link to Bradford for a start should have been put in place, this in turn would lead to word of mouth with interested people passing word on. Bradford has a hell of a lot to offer a family, it's so much better than boring bland everything the same Leeds. You've got the improved Science and Media place, the new city park with it's fun creative fountains what kids love to play in no matter what the weather, numerous eating places nearby, a new shopping centre free of expensive Trinity type shops nobody with an average income can relate to, and finally a city centre you can walk round without having to come across numerous gormless drunken middle aged adults who frankly have ruined Leeds City Centre! Only the other day I had to refrain from decking some mid 50s drunk bloke swearing in front of a child who I could see was intimidated by his brainless drunken state. Before someone bleats that the train isn't a rip off, you may have the money but others earning average wages like £1000 a month don't after the cost of living is paid out, including ever rising bills and insurance. This service has potential and must be promoted as I'm sure many in Otley will have never heard about it.

It's a shame Connexions cancelled the X53, they could have extended this through from Menston to Bradford.

They could have done that at the time when the 653 only ran a couple of trips.

Was never busy when Arriva ran it, Halifax-Leeds, then changed to Halifax-Dewsbury, before withdrawal. Way back then, 250 names on various petitions to keep it running. Guess they've all moved on?

Indeed, remember TJ Walsh only took it on when LOT folded, so it's best not to jump to conclusions.
Arriva stopped running via Norwood Green during a period of massive rationalisation when the 223/224/226 were reduced to just one hourly bus to Halifax combining bits of all of them.
The other notable one is the 31/32 meaning Yorkshire Tiger must have lost this, but again it was only taken on relatively recently when LOT closed down.

Nah, when 223/224 stopped going to Halifax, nothing replaced them from Cleckheaton to Halifax. The 226 still did it's same route from Leeds to Halifax via White Rose, Morley, Howden Clough, Batley, Heckmondwike, Gomersal, Cleckheaton, Scholes, Wyke, Norwood Green, Hipperholme. Evening services were still numbered 227, which after Wyke, went via Bailiff Bridge to Hipperholme. Nothing replaced 223/224, until a couple of years later, when 226, (which by then was Halifax to Dewsbury), was fully withdrawn and 227 made a daytime service, just between Halifax-Heckmondwike. Then, realising their mistake, a Leeds-Halifax was put back in, numbered 255, running down Whitehall Road to Birkenshaw, Gomersal Hill Top to Cleckheaton, then via the past 223 route to Scholes, then you could class it as 227 route to Halifax. Later on, the section between Birkenshaw and Cleckheaton was rerouted to operate via the old 226 route in Gomersal, (via West End pub and Woodlands).

First, originally had it given to them, but, they really didn't it, then LOT took it over, until their demise, TJ Walsh, then filled the gap temporarily, but, they've now cancelled it. Only company that I can think would now run it, would be Tiger, unless, Metro have decided to withdrawn it completely, afterall, it is/was tendered.

The 223 was withdrawn but for a time there was just a 224, this meant the main Cleckheaton to Leeds part was only every 20 minutes. This lasted until the 226 was withdrawn and was replaced by the 227. There was always a bus from Cleckheaton to Halifax via Bailiff Bridge.

This new X10 will mean you can get from Wakefield to Meadowhall for the price of a Stagecoach day ticket, now if Stagecoach have any sense, they will do some on bus marketing throughout the Barnsley area such as leaflets giving connections with services onto the X10 with a bit of info on day ticket prices, hopefully they'll be a decent connection between the 59 and X10 to save me paying that dreadful rail tax, I mean rail fare.

I managed to get a first class single from Sheffield to Leeds today for a fiver. Not bad if you search around or play the waiting game... It'll also be Stagecoach's first appearance in at least 10 years at Meadowhell
