I have the feeling that the 696/97 & 504 connection you suggest effectively covers the Sunday 502 route. I rode this on Easter Monday 2011. You are right that there are many scenic routes in that area!

For my Easter Egg-stravaganza, on Easter Monday March 28th I had a tour of Wakefield & Halifax. I rode Stagecoach E400Hs to/from Manchester Piccadilly and TPE class 185 to/from Dewsbury, then the following buses:-
126 Wakefield - Arriva MAX Gemini 1511 (Honest!) 435 Holmfirth - Yorkshire Tiger Omnilink 761 314 Huddersfield - First Volvo B7TL-Gemini 32518 396 Milnsbridge - TLC Solo SR 91264 302 Huddersfield via Golcar - Volvo B7RLE 69564 503 Halifax - First refurbished Zest Volvo B7TL-Gemini 32539 562 Halifax via Barkisland - Yorkshire Tiger Solo SR 407 549 Brighouse - First Volvo B7RLE 66740 547 Huddersfield - Yorkshire Tiger refurbished Solo 308 229 Cooper Bridge - First Streetlite 47499 278 Dewsbury - Arriva E200 1060
The 302 was Volvo B7RLE after I rode a Streetlite on this (or route 301) last September. Conversely, I saw a Streetlite on route 324 after I rode a Volvo B7TL on it last September.
My connections out of Halifax were so good that, had I waited for a 278 direct to Dewsbury, I would have had to wait for the same one that I ended up on!

Having 'Zapped' with Transdev several times over the last month, I decided to 'Hop' with them today between Leeds and Manchester city centres on one of their £9 Day Tripper tickets.
760 Leeds City Bus Stn. - Keighley Bus Stn. M4 Keighley Bus Stn. - Burnley Bus Stn. X43 'Witch Way' Burnley Bus Station - Manchester Deansgate.
Bus types I travelled on were Volvo B7TL Plaxton President, Volvo? Wright Eclipse (I think) and Volvo B9TL Wright Gemini respectively.
Had been planning to do this on a Saturday later in May but via Harrogate (i.e both 36 and 762) instead of 760 but no full 762 trips run on Sundays.
Today made a change from Transpennine Express train and my usual bus alternative route (Arriva 202/3 or 229 Leeds to Huddersfield and 184 Hudds to Manchester Oldham St). Just a shame the weather wasn't up to showing the scenery in it's best glory.
Have to say, although the Transdev buses were all immaculate inside and very comfortable, the spectacular pennine scenery on First's 184 route wins for service bus ride over the hills.
Thought I'd give this a go as I've been very impressed by Transdev's recent development and investment activities. Living on all of the 36/760/84x/ZAP routes I get to see a wide variety of their vehicles. I used a Day Tripper a couple of weeks ago to do Leeds CC-Harrogate-Knaresborough-Harrogate-Leeds CC as an alternative to the train, purely as I wanted to try one of the new Streetdecks on 36. That was honestly the most comfortable service bus journey I've ever had!

Those Transdev 36 buses are lovely to travel on.

I has a go at a Transdev Day Tripper today
760 Shipley to Keighley - Volvo B7TL/President 2714 M4 Keighley to Colne - Volvo B7RLE/Eclipse Urban 1856 X43 Colne to Burnley - Volvo B7TL/Gemini 2753 9 Burnley to Accrington - Dennis Trident/President 2014 X41 Accrington to Blackburn - Volvo B7TL/Gemini 3601 152 Blackburn to Burnley - Volvo B10BLE/Renown 1099 M4 Burnley to Keighley - Volvo B7RLE/Eclipse Urban 1860 662 Keighley to Bingley - Volvo B7RLE/Eclipse Urban 1810 760 Bingley to Shipley - Volvo B7TL/President 2703
In the main an enjoyable day, the Witch Way, Red Express and Shuttle buses were all very nicely turned out inside and out and gave very comfortable rides. Particularly enjoyed the run on the M65 on the Witch Way bus.
Both 2714 and 2014 emitted a worrying burning smell at times and were not quite as comfortable although I expect they will both be heading for schools work earlier rather than later, I noticed that the 9 timetable included gaps during school term times which is clearly what 2014 has been mainly obtained for. 2714 only smelt while on the A650 dual carriageway so I would guess this type of fast running is a little hard for it's age.
The new Mainline routes appear to have bedded in nicely and the M4 seemed to have plenty of time to complete it's journey with several pauses to wait for time, those B7RLE's certainly shift on the country roads between Crosshills and Colne.
Blackburn's new bus station was visited but as the surrounding area still looks like a building site failed to impress and I had to agree with the 152 driver who said they expected it to be bigger.
The real let down was the 152 which was packed full with a couple of passengers commenting on the choice of single deck vehicle. Not the fault of Transdev but this bus showed the reason why buses will never really attract car drivers. One guy at the back had no control over the level of his voice while on his mobile phone and a move a few seats further up the bus positioned me behind an old fella who had clearly urinated himself at some recent occasion and absolutely stank.
The only other thing that struck me was the apparent lack of awareness of the Day Tripper ticket by Transdev's staff. When purchasing the ticket I was greeted with the question "What's a Day Tripper?" by the driver although he found it easily enough on his ticket machine. On boarding the Witch Way bus the driver asked where I was going to, and said "Oh, that's ok then" when I mentioned Burnley. I had the distinct impression that a Manchester reply may have started a discussion about the validity of the ticket. Most of the other drivers had to have a good look at the ticket before returning it with a puzzled expression so much so that I set my mobile phone browser to the Transdev tickets web page in case of any problems.
Overall at £9.00 I think the ticket is good value and I do very much like the direction of travel Transdev appears to be going in, it may be time to start sprinkling that Trent Barton customer service ethos on some of the drivers though as I did not feel particularly welcome until the 662 on the way home and that was eight buses too late for me.

Nope. 663 now operates as 500. Initially when KDT took over all journeys, they kept the 663 for short workings, but now all journeys, whether only working as far as oxenhope or going through to Hebden Bridge are numbered 500.
X6 still runs though.

I can remember being on a dayrover in the mid nineties and the West Riding Olympian working the 484 broke down on a steep uphill climb heading for west bretton. Driver said we could get off and walk or wait for replacement bus to arrive.
Despite not knowing where I was, I got off and thought I'll walk to top of the hill, see if there's another route in that area and see which bus came first. In the event I kept walking until I finally saw a bus (Tracky Metrobus), by which time I was in Lepton!

I remember my X84 journey to Skipton on Scania N113 8039 back in 2000 and we had to refuel at BP in Headingley on Otley Road haha. That was interesting, waiting outside the petrol station and watching the driver bringing jerrycans of Diesel haha.

I'm sure I read about Transdev's order for new buses included some single-deckers for Blackburn, but have forgotten further details.

Bus journey in Birmingham. Start point Yardley - Coventry Road Missed E400 on the 60! Boarded B7RLE (BX12 reg) on 58. Then got off, Driver informed us that it's exact fare only on NXWM buses. We were ill informed about that Went to the Corner shop- McCoys Crisp- Roasted Chicken. Got my change Then boarded E400MMC (YX15 reg) on 957 to Birmingham City Centre Got on E400 (BX63 reg) on 47 to Strichley - (bit of a plain Jane journey and the front of the bus was rattled too much) Then decided to walk to Bournville from Strichley, good news is that the 27 had turned up around the corner and we were positioned at the bus stop. so boarded it instead Scania Omnicity - 27 to Bournville (tuneful ZF gearbox and decent ride) Admissions for Cadbury world was busy, 2 hours before we could have a tour. So to use that time Got on Volvo B7TL Gemini ( BX54 DGE) on 11C to Selly Oak. (This bus sounded unhealthy, but the differential on this bus made a tuneful howling roar with no cooling fan involved too, when heading up the steep hill, even when stopping, this would have been an enthusiastic bus, had i done one full circle on it) Saw The driver check his emergency exit on Y721TOH Dennis Trident/Alx 400 on 61 before leaving the stop at Selly oak Then boarded V102 MOA on 11A back down the steep hill to Bournville, even though this bus is a lot older than the 54 reg Gemini. It was in much better condition than it. After Cadbury world Boarded Scania Omnicity on 27 - similar journey to the first one. The ride and build quality of the Omnicity is very sturdy and pleasant. Dennis Trident 4440 BJ03 EUL on 45 had an all over wrap for some Cider. Driver was a bit late, he had the grumps, but his bus was full and he didn't lower the bus for the old lady despite her asking 3 times at our stop. Only positive thing, with that type of driver , is he drove in KICKDOWN mode all the way to Birmingham city centre Got on Dennis Trident (BX04 reg) on 60 back to Yardley. ( can see the benefits of the 900/957 routings instantly, they bypass small Heath) . Going through Small Heath is like going through Leeds Road in Bradford. It's going to take forever because of the busy nature of the road. Once the driver got back onto the main A45 it was KICKDOWN mode up the wide Coventry Road back to Yardley. Noted the amount of boyracer cars I saw along Coventry road. That a 3 lane wide road And some idiots seem to be doing 70+ mph on a road with speed cameras and a 40 limit.

Had my first bus bash today since moving back to Yorkshire:
H&D 3627 on the 36 to Leeds BS FWY 35233 on the X6 to Bradford BS FWY 37086 on the X63 to Huddersfield BS AY 1918 on the 202 to Dewsbury BS AY 1511 on the 126 to Wakefield BS AY 1605 on the 189 to Castleford BS ( first time I've seen the new Castleford bus station and it looks pretty good). AY 1304 on the 166 to Leeds BS H&D on the 36 back to Harrogate
A decent day with rides on reasonable variety of buses. Hope for a longer trip on the next time out with more variety of vehicle types.
Cheers
