Last Saturday, December 27th, was Wigan & east Liverpool. All trains were Northern and all buses Arriva, as follows:-
Walk Heaton Chapel Train Wigan Wallgate - class 150/1 385 Skelmersdale - E40D 4579 311 Orrell Park - Pulsar 2922 61 Childwall - Pulsar 3016 81a Liverpool Airport - Volvo B7TL-ALX400 4117 82 Halton Lea - Cadet 2546 110 Warrington - Cadet 2552 360 Wigan - Pulsar 2973 Trains Heaton Chapel via Manchester Piccadilly - class 142 then 323
I did not duplicate moquette where I rode equivalent buses again. Significantly, I rode Manchester route 81a on my Christmas bash in 2013! It was poignant to see Liverpool at Christmas 2014, being 50 years since the Beatles were Christmas no 1 with I Feel Fine.
Then today, January 3rd, Hull & Cottingham. I reached Hull via Grimsby yesterday and returned home via Manchester. Anyway, all my buses in Hull today were East Yorkshire, as follows:-
57 Hessle - E400H 905 X80 Cottingham Burton Road - Primo 496 115 Cottingham Green - Enviro200 359 64 Hull - Volvo B7TL-President 674 - long example, possibly imported from Finglands 56 Bilton Asda - Volvo B9TL-Enviro400 722 57 Hull - Volvo B9TL-Gemini 746 61 Cottingham Green - Volvo B7BLE-MCV 382 115 Hull - Volvo B7TL-President 650 ex-Go-Ahead London PVL184
These included my first Volvo B9TL-Enviro400 outside of Dublin Bus, and my first Volvo-MCV anywhere! I gather it was ex-dealer stock as it had yellow poles and a mainly blue moquette distinct from EYMS.

Today:
500 Keighley to Hebden Bridge (Wright Streetlite 611 SB64CTY) 900 Hebden Bridge to Huddersfield (K Line liveried Solo 279 YJ54BUU) 202 Huddersfield to Dewsbury (Arriva Max Enviro 400 1924 SN15LLR) 268A Dewsbury to Bradford (Arriva Max Enviro 400 1905 YJ58FHF) 660 Bradford to Shipley (TLC Enviro 200 YX15XMJ) 678 Shipley to Cottingley (TLC Enviro 200 YY64YKJ) 615 Cottingley to Four Lane Ends (First Bradford 60835 V768UVY) 697 Four Lane Ends to Keighley (Transdev 1077 Y177HRN) 708 Keighley to Home (TLC Enviro 200 MX12DYP)
Notes: Very impressed with the Streetlite. Comfortable with a bright interior (especially with the LED interior lights). Driver not so keen. Struggled to Oxenhope which would seem to be the driver not a fault with the bus then proceeded to get a quick lesson from the driver of the 500 heading the other way. Also had a game of chicken with a GOOSE trying to leave the Oxenhope stop! The K-Line liveried Solo sounded like it was a Cummins engine but couldn't be sure as under acceleartion it was making a similar clattery sound as an old VW Beetle does! Driver must have thought he was The Stig, the way he was handling the moorland roads, at one point the entire bus was on the wrong side of the road as he aimed for the apex on a bend! The 678 and 615 journeys were interesting as both were diverted along roads not normally served by buses to reach/leave Cottingley, the 678 via Bankfield Road and New Close Road, the 615 via Nab Lane. And why do TLC seem to be keeping all the new Enviro's away from Keighley?

I had a bit of a ride around Castleford and Pontefract today.
Main observations are that the 'any bus will do' allocation policy at Castleford depot seems to an accurate description as the 135/136 had Optare Tempos, Wright Pulsars and E200s. Presumably the E200s do have a specific purpose at Castleford because if they didn't, why did they replace the old MPDs on a like for like basis.
Also travelled on a few M Travel buses, didn't catch the name of the driver of one Trident but it may have been Lewis Hamilton. Accelerating to full speed away from lights even though you can see the next set of lights in the distance has a queue of traffic waiting. The Wright Cadet looks smart though.
Seems to be an issue of shortage of layover bays at Castleford bus station, Arriva were also laying over on the street behind.

I was interested in some of the new buses you rode Tim. I knew about the new MAX E40Ds on routes 202/03 and the Streetlites on route 900. The new E20D with TLC is a surprise. I could be willing to do the west side of the county soon and Leeds in August!

The anything goes policy at Castleford doesn't apply to the 163/6 where the Electric ones appear to rule, so far not seen one of these in Wakefield. Then there are the single deck only routes 167/8 which are a must for singles plus it is rare to see anything other than singles now on 187/8 and the 135/6/8. In fairness only the Electric ones for 163/6 carry any route branding. It will interesting to see what happens once the ALX400's are no more

That's interesting about E200 on route 650 Tim, as judging by Flickr I reckoned the route usually had Solos! I considered riding routes 650 & 781 for next week, but am now planning an eastern trip then a western trip later in the year. I am also shocked about both your 760s being single-deck as I thought the route was usually President, except on Sundays.

Metroline - I was just as surprised they put an Enviro on the 650. Wasn't as easy to fit in and out of the turning area at Esholt as the Solo is!
Today: Service 708 - TLC Enviro 200 SN15LRA Service 760 - Transdev Keighley B10BLE Y152HRN Service 62 - Tiger Optare Tempo YJ05XOO Service 221 - Arriva Yorkshire B7TL X694YUG Service 711 - Geldards Trident KV02URU Service 697 - Transdev B7RLE FJ08BZT Service 696 - Transdev B10BLE Y148HRN Service 720 - Transdev Dart YJ04LXT
Notes: The Tiger Tempo was extremely slow on hills. Is this cos of the engine or the gearbox? I did think the driver but the way he was throwing it round Wortley and Armley and down hills in Old Farnley, likely not! That said, it arrived in Shipley 1 minute before it was due back out at which point he got off for a f*g, got boxed in by the 612 in front and the 847 behind and left 9 late! Arrived in Leeds on time despite being damn slow uphill, late leaving Shipley and diverted at Thornbury Barracks, with it being left turn only due to roadworks, so down to Dawson's Corner and back up!
Interestingly, some thing i'd never spotted before, the Transbus Dart of Transdev on the 720 has Dennis badging on the steering wheel.

Had a change today, and had a "heritage" day out. Drove to Heywood station on the East Lancs Railway for the 10am departure. motive power provided by beautiful LMS steam loco with matching rake of maroon coaches. alighted at Bury Bolton St station and walked across the road to Bury transport museum. I was very impressed by the exhibits in general, what particularly caught my eye was a 60's Lancashire United Guy/Crossley in amazing condition, although not a "bus" museum specifically there were other bus exhibits including old Leyland Tiger single deckers and a Yelloways coach from the 50's&60's enough to keep most bus enthusiasts happy i would think. Following my return to Heywood from Bury, i then drove to the Greater Manchester transport museum located on Boyle st Cheetham Hill, this is directly next door to First Manchester's Queens rd depot. They have a fabulous collection of over fifty fully restored and partially restored buses from the fleets of the old municipal companies prior to their absorbtion into the Selnec/GMPTE network. I was in my element recalling AEC Regents/Leyland PD2/3's/Guy Wulfrunians and the original rear engined Daimler Fleetline's etc. Took me back to my early schooldays when these buses were running. An excellent collection and an absolute must for all bus enthusiasts, At just £4 for admission it also represents fantastic value. much as i like modern buses, it was good going back to being among "proper" buses, that coupled to a very positive steam train experience made for a most enjoyable day.

Today's bash:
500 Keighley to Haworth (K&D B10BLE) 915 Haworth to Keighley (TLC Solo) 697 Keighley to Denholme (K&D B10BLE) 504 Denholme to Halifax (TJW Primo) 537 Halifax to Elland (First Hudds B7TL/ALX400) 257 Elland to Brighouse (TJW Fiat/Bluebird) X63 Brighouse to Bradford (First B7RLE) 660 Bradford to Shipley (TLC E200) 760 Shipley to Keighley (K&D B7RLE) 708 Keighley to Riddlesden (TLC E200)
Thoughts:
Bit disappointed not to get a Streetlite on the 500. Reliability not great?
Nice run round Leeming and Hainworth on the 915.
Honestly, if it wasn't for the awful Renault S75 minibus of the 80's, the Primo would be hands down THE worst bus ever made. Slow, uncomfortable, noisy. Horrid, just horrid.
By contrast, the Bluebird bodied Fiat Ducato was surprisingly good. Comfortable, very quiet and bright inside. Thoroughly enjoyable journey.
First B10BLE 60845 had had a shunt on the way into Brighouse bus station, the front of the bus embedded in a Citroen C3.

So yes, I made it to Leeds for Otley & Huddersfield on Saturday 26th September as planned. My itin was as follows:-
192 Manchester - Stagecoach E400 060 Leeds - National Express coach, I think an Elite 760 Shipley - Transdev in Keighley Eclipse 1846 737 Leeds Bradford Airport - Yorkshire Tiger Tempo 774 967 Otley - TLC mini E200 13972 X84 Headingley - First Volvo B9TL 37672 97 Leeds - First Volvo B9TL 36227 X6 Huddersfield - First Volvo B9TL 37083 324 Meltham - Tiger Blue refurbished Cadet 620 324 Huddersfield - First Volvo B7TL-Gemini 32514 303 Milnsbridge - Tiger Blue refurbished Solo 337 302 Huddersfield - First short Streetlite 47500 184 Manchester - First Manchester E400 33682 192 Heaton Chapel - Stagecoach E400H
I was disappointed that the 781 was a Tempo having had to ride one on route 737 instead of a refurbished Flying Tiger OmniCity. I reckon that next time I go to Keighley I shall head there from Leeds via Otley & route 781 then Ilkley.

Metroline 511, if you don't mind me suggesting this, on the basis you get to Keighley early enough then once your in Keighley a good way back to Manchester would be to Travel to Halifax via services 696/7 changing onto a 504 at Denholme, once in Halifax catch a 503 or if possible a much more scenic 536/7 bus to Huddersfield and from there a Holmfirth group service to Holmfirth, finally linking onto the South Pennine Community Transport 352 bus to Greenfield where you can catch the 184 to Manchester. One hell of a bus bash if it can be done! OH NO EDIT! Just gone through all the timetables and even if you cheat by using a 33a to Menston the catch a train to Ilkley you miss the 352 by 30 mins! Just in case you do fancy it though, it is possible to achieve but catch the X84 direct to Ilkley instead, you'll see a lot of the 781 route from the X84, just not the bit around Harewood and Alwoodley.
