Maybe because it is the perminant bus for the 254 now, they are testing the fuel economy apparantly, that's why it was on the 254 again today.

Apparently it is one of four demonstrators based on a new slightly lighter Vovlo chassis.
They are all out on demonstration and expected to return a better mpg than the current BR7LE's
Just the one with Arriva, no idea where the others are, and there is no truth in the roumor that HJC were looking to take one.......

I have heard just this afternoon, that three unidentified brand new single deckers were heading towards Heckmondwike this morning. From the "description" given they were Wrightbus bodied and had their fronts covered in what looked like white tape, rendering their registrations almost impossible to read. The rest of the vehicles were in Arriva colours. So what could they be? ??

More than likely VDL's going going to Gomersal theres always pulsars passing threw Hecky on there way to that place or been deliverd to Arriva depots in the uk.

What exactly is this bus?, is it a Wright Pulsar body on a Volvo B7RLE chassis or a prototype for a smaller Volvo engine. I was behind it the other day and i agree it dosent sound like a typical B7RLE, but it didnt sound like a VDL SB220 engine either. This Vehicle is the new style Wright Eclipse 2 on a Volvo B7RLE Chasis

Yes that's right, it's on a new lighter Volvo Chassis with a slightly smaller engine so running costs will be cheaper in long term.

The demonstrator spent today working the Dewsbury Bus Museum Shuttle between the Museum and Dewsbury Bus Station.
It sounds like the bus will be confined to Heckmondwike workings since part of the hire agreement is that it must be based at only a Volvo accredited depot.

I have been talking to my friend who is at hecky and he said it is a volvo demo bus fleet no 2222 with a rumour going around saying that after all the work done to the ALX300's, they are not happy with the slownes getting worse (some of them not getting up hills and stalling) and something to do with eco-mrg not sure what that is I think its something do with how its working Arriva are wanting to get rid the ALX 300's. (not sure how true this is) Just a bit of progress on this, the ALX 300's could be going as the manager has been to office (dont know if its bell isle office or Arriva head office) to ask for some replacements at Hecky as they are costing too mutch to keep in servise (only 10K a month per bus apparently) and they want rid of them ASAP. I dont know if they have asked for new buses, second hand or swap between depots but they have only asked so far.

I think Heckmondwike are accredited to carry out work on behalf of Volvo and could explain why "foreign" buses appear there. The other depots might only be "accredited" to work on their own Volvo vehicles

Can anybody give us a few statistics on the Volvo/Eclipse 2 demonstrator? Engine size/BHP & unladen weight for comparison purposes. There does not appear to be anything on the Volvo Bus UK site.

The Unladen Weight is 10360KGS compared to the 11000 of the normal Eclipse Urban.

Halifax's old B7RLE's are 11000kgs Not really relevent since Arriva will be comparing it's BG59 FWP that is, performance with their own batch of B7RLE's 1100-1112 and those weigh in at 10899kgs.

I ask because the recent edition of the Selby Depot Newsletter talks of their New General Manager and I'm sure that he used to be at Heckmondwike
