Arriva's registration changes. Looks like there'll be a few changes in the Wakefield/Castleford/Pontefract areas. Going off the listings, there will be changes to the 119/120 route with a new service 122 introduced to/from Batley and a re-routing of the 119/120 and 119 being re-numbered 120A. Also looks like the 187/188 route will be split at Castleford with Wakefield-Castleford running as one number (186) and Wakefield-Ferrybridge replaced by new service 158.

Well that looks like a right mess with the 202/203, it's well used between Dewsbury and White Rose so I can't see why it needed changing to a less direct route, it's only going to lead to more people ditching the bus. I use it a lot from Huddersfield back to Beeston as the train to Cottingley after dark isn't really an option safety wise lol. Very surprised at the 117 being axed, that came in very handy from Wakefield to Beeston when connecting into a 118 was impossible.

Managed decline.
Arriva are bleeding money on some of this work so it is only inevitable and not the end.

Can’t blame X80 changing to twice in each peak hour due to most people working from home still. It’s a commuters bus and no one is commuting.

I was like every one else at first thinking wow but with covid then a lot of it does sort of make sense even if I think there will still be a lot of unhappy people I read some where it was april that things would reduce so have arriva gone early or is there more for april and will be interesting to see what other operator do

It doesn't look great but it's simple:
- fewer passengers - fewer drivers - less fare revenue - less government support.
Dependant on which stats you look at local bus use outside of London is between 60-70% of pre-COVID levels, it's not sustainable.

Can’t blame X80 changing to twice in each peak hour due to most people working from home still. It’s a commuters bus and no one is commuting. I think the X80 is maybe a bit early in its life with minimal houses on the Heath Common end of the bypass occupied, and the Pinders end served by the 444/6. I think maybe the X80 would be better starting in Wakefield via Doncaster Rd then bypass and introduce an X89 from Wakefield via Normanton then left at 4 Lane end and direct to Leeds.

Are these changes permanent, or a COVID-19 stop-gap? I hope it’s the latter, otherwise I see Arriva running itself to nothing before too long.
I thought the changes in Heckmondwike were bad enough a couple of years ago, but with these new alterations, Arriva has excelled in taking a company down. The 203 change is so ridiculous and the 268 not picking up at the ice rink is an odd one. That’s a very useful pick up point for the ice rink andThe Alhambra theatre. It will now be an even longer journey to Bradford on the 283 via everywhere (but that is common for all routes these days). Spare a thought for those Morley residents working at the WRC, who will now have to find another way home from work if working in the evenings.
I’m sure the idea was to get people out of cars and on to public transport. Doesn’t seem Arriva understands that because there is no direct or regular express route to anywhere and they all take forever to get to any destination. It doesn’t wash with people who have their own transport as they want to get the journey done as quickly and as directly as possible and in comfort.

Permanent. Also it is true about the Leeds-bound services re-routing away from Crown Point Road due to speed bumps. Leeds City Council plan to reduce the road to 1 lane (probably another cycle lane) and install speed bumps. This will also affect First services 74 and 87.
