What's easy about it?
Far too many ticket options. Far too complicated. Something like this would be easier. 2 single prices - £1.50 or £2 (flat fare) 1 day ticket price - £4.50 3 day £12 5 day £15.50 7 day £19
No preference to how you pay, app, card or cash.
Tap on Tap off works well if multi operator/transport method otherwise does it add much value?

Think the Huddersfield / Halifax weekly customers are going to be some of the worst affected. £15 / £12 weekly now £20.

This is why I detest people who have a job in marketing, the slimy way they dress up price increases is disgusting. Can't they just admit the company aren't making enough money so that's why fares are going up rather than dressing it up as something fair to all passengers? This will only lead to people travelling less! In effect, they are saying fares must increase for many to subsidise others! Hell fire, how can they say it's fair that a dayrider price must go up for Leeds residents just to make it fair for those who travel longer distances such as Cottingley to Halifax for example? They may say cheaper returns are available, but many residents catch 4 buses per day, we don't all work in the city centre! The massive trick these idiots have missed is not using tap and go to cap fares throughout the month, or even year to the cheapest priced ticket, would save people the hassle of trying to work out what fare they should ask for.

Think the Huddersfield / Halifax weekly customers are going to be some of the worst affected. £15 / £12 weekly now £20. This is how First are trying to justify the price increases for weekly tickets in Halifax and Huddersfield Also, looking at the tap on, tap off, there's a daily cap for £5.20 and discounts for using it on several days in a week, however, there doesn't appear to be a weekly cap. So, for anyone travelling 5 days a week or more, it works out more to using tap on, tap off than buying a weekly ticket on bus or as an m-ticket. I can imagine that catching a few people and annoying a few people as well, who probably prefer the tap on, tap off mode of payment, like in London. Days using TOTO | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | Max total price | £5.20 | £10.35 (5p saving) | £14.70 (90p saving) | £18.50 (£2.30 saving) | £21.75 (£4.25 saving - but £1.75 more than weekly) | £22.75 (£8.45 saving - but £2.75 more than weekly) | £23.75 (£12.65 saving - but £3.75 more than weekly) |

Of course the reason why Halifax and Huddersfield was cheaper than Leeds is because its a smaller network
£12 up to £20 is a pretty extreme increase.

I think £20 is a bargain in this day and age, Imagine if for instance you travelled from Mixenden to Huddersfield five days a week in car how much would that cost, When you have petrol, car tax, car insurance, then have to pay to park your car. Oh and you got to buy a car as well !

I get the bus, but there's a reason most people drive. A massive increase after years of drops in frequency and First pulling out of some areas and a current shortage of drivers isn't going to go down well.

Well it's known that First have used the Solos so that depends on the engine. If i remember rightly it's also had the 13 reg eclipses on it but i dont know how quick they are as they're the only ones i've not been on yet. At the minute since it's been subcontracted to CT Plus alongside 539 and C51 it uses 71 reg e200MMCs

The 695xx 13 plate Eclipses are my favourite buses. Smooth, fast when you want them to be with plenty of power, warm and super quiet. They fly up hills but the bus spotter community don't like them because there's no "revs" but they soon get upto speed

I think £20 is a bargain in this day and age, Imagine if for instance you travelled from Mixenden to Huddersfield five days a week in car how much would that cost, When you have petrol, car tax, car insurance, then have to pay to park your car. Oh and you got to buy a car as well ! If you haven't already got a car. Now do the calculations for someone who has a car already. A typical economical petrol or diesel car costs about 10p/mile in fuel, maybe a bit more at rush hour. Add a bit for wear and tear and the other marginal running costs, and you're looking at about 15p/mile. Mixended to Huddersfield is 11 miles each way, so about £2.70/day. Parking in Huddersfield alone is typically £4/day. So if you are commuting regularly and don't have parking provided, the bus is likely to be cheaper. But ... this is the problem with a lot of bus (and train) tickets ... if you are getting maximum use out of them then they can be good value. But if you are using them less than that, there are often few options to buy cheaper tickets that only cover what you need, and so you are paying over-the-odds.

And the further summary - The rise of the day ticket price to £5.20 from the previous First Leeds Day price is a another rip off. It's more now than a Harrogate Day ticket, which lets you travel all around Harrogate and out to Harewood, Knaresborough and Wetherby and there are no subsidies in North Yorkshire as there are in West Yorkshire.

But if a day ticket is not appropriate then don't buy it! For example if I'm travelling from Moortown to Leeds centre and back and not doing any more trips that day then I will buy two single £2 journeys on the app -£4 in total. The new First Day price £5.20 is not unreasonable if one is making numerous journeys on a given day. I don't know what folk expect these days - a tuppeny single to Leeds perhaps!

But it's still a huge increase for the many who catch 4 buses per day, and for those who do this regularly. Not everyone restricts themselves to working in Leeds centre or locally to home. I myself this week have been working out near Harewood and over in East Leeds, last week I had posts at Harewood, Wetherby and over in East Leeds, commuting from the village end of Beeston each day. I've often seen quite a few workers commuting from Leeds out to the Airedale factory over in Rawdon with day tickets. Now I have an annual M Card, so not affected however it's not great when you have to fork out a shed load for county priced travel within your own city on top of the ever increasing bills.

Most commonly I travel with Transdev Keighley. On their app, I'm paying £3.90 for a day to travel to Skipton, Ilkley, Leeds, Bradford as well as locally around Keighley - I do have to buy they 10 at a time, but that seems a much better fare for a local area.

If you want cheaper fares we must have more bus lanes so bus productivity is improved, We all pay over the odds because the buses are stuck in traffic Congestion makes services worse and more expensive. Pester your councillors for bus lanes and more expensive parking and if you suceed fares will be cheaper

Don't see why anyone would want to leave their car at home and take the bus, many journeys are unnecessary slow with buses waiting at timing points over 5+ minutes and then some routes which are continuously late.

Don't see why anyone would want to leave their car at home and take the bus, many journeys are unnecessary slow with buses waiting at timing points over 5+ minutes and then some routes which are continuously late. 🚌 Driving in congested city traffic is not a pleasant experience. Going by bus allows you to use the time more productively, even if it takes a little bit longer. 🚌 Parking in city centres can be limited, and expensive. No need to spend ages hunting around for a space if you're on the bus! 🚌 It is better for everyone if people who can sensibly use public transport do so, and some people are willing to do the right thing by others.
