Although you’d assume the 503 & X63 do well, so they shouldn’t really still be using 2005 Gemini’s. Agreed! The 503 should definitely justify at least 2012 B9TLs. I did read somewhere that the 32XXX B7TLs were better suited to the 503 than a B9TL, but I have to say - I'd be surprised at that. I travelled on a many a rough B9TL in my time in Glasgow and they still had plenty in the tank to tackle numerous steep hills with FULL loads. The last B9 Halifax had did 30 up the bypass... a 325 can do nearly 35. Having driven the B7 AND B9TL on hilly routes myself, I have found some B7s go up faster than the B9.

Bradfords 325s climb Stanningley By-Pass better than the B9s on X6

Since when did Halifax ever have a B9?

It probably feels that the B9TLs seem more powerful because the B7TLs always sound like they are about to expire due to all the noise they make, this makes them sound like they are on their last legs even if they aren't.

Does anyone know why the 04 gemini's are so noisy? Can't they be re-engined or something? It feels to me like the engine might need cleaning or something... surely didn't leave the Volvo factory 14 years ago that noisy? I can hear them from my office!

They're fitted with hydraulic fans since new, and were fitted on Volvo B9TLs and StreetCar bendybuses since then until 2012, when the Gemini 2s arrived with electric fans fitted for reduced noise.

What is odd about route X63 is that it seems that some B7TLs and B9TLs have been refurbished for the route. Split between Huddersfield and Bradford Thank you for your explanation. So it must be Volvo B9TLs from Bradford and B7TLs from Huddersfield. As I did a refurb B7TL on route 503 in 2016 (Easter Monday in fact) I shall aim for a refurb B9TL on route X63.

Thanks for the info. I do remember hearing brand new B7TL 325xx's hoovering from brand new. Could never understand why some did, some didn't. Didn't seem to affect later B7Tls so much or the B9's.(lower revs?)

Good point actually! I'd never thought about that! The B9s do give the impression everything is under control, due to the very smooth low rev gear changes.

30956 has joined Huddersfield depot from Oldham. Think Oldham were going to scrap it as MOT expired but Huddersfield are going to put it through its MOT.

Would make sense, as the requrement for PR1 is 3 (4 in peaks), and PR2 is 4. The PM peak hour board does a 3 on schooldays.

I'm sure First were supposed to be getting some more electric buses, including double-deckers probably MetroDeckers, to enable York Park & Ride to use just electric buses?

Hopefully they keep the flipdot screens, it'd be nice if we had at least ONE in Hudds that still had them! The ALX400s at Bradford etc still have them so you'd think that Hudds would keep them aswell....
