254 does turn into a 220 as I saw 694 few weeks back. I got on in Leeds to Cleckheaton on 254 then I went to Morley as saw it on 220 in opp direction.
I am going to ride on the new eclipes on Monday.

A branded B7RLE did manage to interwork onto the 220 today, can't remember which one though.
Will Arriva be stop the short 220 working to Cleckheaton interworking with a short 254 to Cleckheaton so B7RLEs don't stray into the tangle that is the Heckmondwike operations.

They should transfer the Wakefield part of the 254 onto another service to reduce the complicatedness of the timetable and avoid 'Connecting Cleckheaton & Leeds' branded buses running into Wakefield
In fact can anyone think of a way of simplifying the Heckmondwike and Dewsbury network to make services more straight forward?

Funnily enough I have been calculating my own Spen Valley network ideas to improve things, though there isn't any easy way to avoid complicated interworking.
I too wondered if the 254 should stop extending to Wakefield, but then thought perhaps it does help maintain links (Wake-Dews-Heck) lost on the X33?

Maybe the 268 should extend to Wakefield, creating a simple to understand link direct from Dewsbury to Wakefield
Journeys on the 253, 254 & 278 would then only run as far as Dewsbury, but then I suppose places on those routes would then lose a link to Wakefield

The 253/278 would be best kept running to Wakefield, as they always have done, just with a better timetable. At the moment the 254 only gets involved because Arriva have been cheap enough to cut both the 253 and 278 to hourly and also cut the Wake-Dews link to every 20 mins.

Maybe the 268 should extend to Wakefield, creating a simple to understand link direct from Dewsbury to Wakefield There was a 268 variant that continued on from Dewsbury to Wakefield some years back. It was numbered 269 (this number previously used for the Dewbury to Grange Moor via Briestfield (this village no longer has a bus service thanks to Arriva) route.

I saw K405HWW 405 running around Leeds with no Arriva fleetnames on it a while ago, and I wondered if it was going to be sold.

Just looking on the page of that Dealer website about the Lance, "well maintained by previous owner"! I have to say myself, the Lances and Volvo B10Bs do look rather down at heel.

Another interworking occurs with the 254 as well at Cleckheaton believe it or not! The other short running on the 254 that terminates at Cleckheaton interworks with the 256 to Bradford.
If these interworkings continue, there just seems to be no point on branding the buses in the first place if 25% of the time, they're not Connecting Cleackheaton and Leeds as it says on the tin!

I've seen the working on 256 as i've seen one in bradford and posted it on the misallocations page. looks to me like they need to rework that branding if the 256 is gonna get the same treatment.

1105 is on the 268 today. What is the point of branding if they are not on those routes for which they have been so labelled?

The new route branding has been applied quite poorly in my opinion
Firstly the semicircle on the side has a chunk cut out due to a grille
Secondly, the places mentioned on the route branding have been badly picked
The main Leeds - Cleckheaton section is briefly mentioned, the other 6 places listed get a limited service of up to an hour
Why have 2 tiny villages between Cleckheaton and Brighouse got top billing when they get the hourly 255 only yet core places like Birkenshaw and Drighlington are not mentioned

I find Arriva branding uses mostly too small text anyway. It is only readable at close range and sometimes then only when the bus is stationary.

Agree with leeds23 about the size of the text. I don't think route branding is Arriva's strong point (what is?!) and doesn't stand out enough. Saw one of these new buses in Leeds on Saturday on the 221 service and the branding looked messy.
I think if they had focused more on the Cleckheaton - Leeds section like Burnley & Pendle do with their Mainline service and don't mention the final destination of the bus it would work a lot better and the text could be a lot clearer and eye catching.

Also another problem with the Semicircle at the back on the nearside is that they have too much information in it.
I think they could just have 254 and 255 large in the semicircle and a strip coming out in white saying up to every 12 mins.

Are Arriva still getting an order of ADL Enviro 400's for Heckmondwike for use on the 268 this year? If so, the Volvo Olympians should be on their way out, making Heckmondwike 100% low floor. The only step entrance Arriva buses in Kirklees will then be the Ikarus buses based at Dewsbury which will surely be the next buses to be disposed of.

Last night i was talking to a hecky driver and yes the enviro 400's are coming from October on wards they should all be in by Christmas, they will replace the last of the lances and a few spectra's that are moving to cas to start replacing the volvo striders, the east lancs Volvo Olympians have a good reliability and are very cheap to maintain believe it or not so they are keeping them for a few more years. All lances are to be out by Christmas or as soon as possible, all but 2 lances have a replacement but until arriva find 2 low floor 2nd hand buses (darts preferred) 2 alx 300 will stay behind till something is found thats if they do find anything which the wont.
