Utopia have got a brand new baby Solo SR, and have also acquired Solo YJ10LZU from Holmeswood (still with their logos on!)

Ok, turns out the Holmeswood Solo is just on hire for a week, they even tweeted it to tell passengers to make sure they didn't get confused and miss it. I know it's only a little thing but Utopia seems to be getting into its stride now.
With the new 492 and 493, and the improved 420, starting next month, they will need I think three additional buses in service. With one new Solo SR (but also one step-entrance Mercedes that really shouldn't be used in service now) that still leaves them a shortfall - any news on what they might be getting?

Another new acquisition (well, today was the first time I've seen it) is a Solo SR, KX14FHT, which by the looks of things is not an SE model, so I'm surprised it is allowed over the bridge.

According to Bus Lists On The Web, it's one of the batch new to Malta and is definitely not an SE.

Are the merc minibuses getting withdrawn? I know that one of them was taken off its UTO personalised plates ready for sale, but I don't know if it has actually sold yet. It would make sense for Utopia to try to get more mid-sized buses - when Arriva used to run the 42 with SPDs, it was regularly pretty full - I don't know if Utopia have kept that level of custom but I would imagine their 20-sweaters must be cosy at times!

According to Flickr, Utopia had 3 Enviro200s at some point during 2013 (KX07KOH, MX12DYV and MX10DXW), all of which appear to have left the fleet, and in most cases were only there on temporary short-term loan.

Would make sense for them not to be their long term if they were on loan. The solos must do well for them though. Do the just do service work or do they have some school contracts aswell?

Sadly Utopia Coaches will cease trading tonight, as confirmed on their Twitter account. They gave reasons why they have ceased trading? A tweet from the tweet on their twitter account says the driver received the news via text with the owners then going off on their holidays

Sadly Utopia Coaches will cease trading tonight, as confirmed on their Twitter account. Any news on what is happening with their services? I can't see any mention of it on NYCC, Metro or iTravelYork, and their website is still as up-and-running as it ever was.

There's quite a few places just left for commuters to fend for themselves then! Pretty embarrassing if you're an advocate of public transport and encouraging people to use the bus. It's not an isolated incident recently either.

Arriva taking on Tadcaster to Pontefract so I hear. Will probably take over the 402/3 to Goole via Barlow and the 42 to York via Cawood

Interesting that the 8 is going back to Goole and reconnecting Airmyn (although with a slightly odd route at that end). I think this will be the first time a Transdev bus has appeared in Selby!
Odd that the 426 is going to run non-stop between Stillingfleet and York, with no service to Naburn even though it runs through the village - CYC don't seem to have anything sorted out for Naburn either. I assume the 426 is just a temporary timetable until the bridge reopens, and then hopefully a proper operator will run a proper service.
Am I right in thinking there is no mention of anything between Sherburn and Pontefract either?

Would be logical for Transdev to work a York-Selby service to link with the 8.

Would be logical for Transdev to work a York-Selby service to link with the 8. Yes and no. Traditionally the 42 has been run by 2 buses on full diagrams, every hour. If that service pattern resumes then there is no benefit to interworking, and only headaches when it leads to delays propagating from one route to the other. With the 8 only running about every 2 hours, the scope for interworking is even more limited. Interestingly, Transdev have posted on their website that they will be running the same timetable that Utopia did, but NYCC have given a different timetable, more in line with what used to run. I wonder if the contracts people were unaware that Utopia had changed the timetable and were no longer running to Goole!
