Three days after being publicly ‘named and shamed’ by Business Minister Nick Boles for failing to pay the National Minimum Wage, Tates Travel suddenly stopped trading on Monday evening (8 February). According to Tate Travel’s website, the Barnsley-based operator ran 50 vehicles on a number of commercial bus routes, alongside PTE schools and supported contracts. It also had a small number of coaches and holds an O-Licence for 33 vehicles. Founded in 2003 by Graham Mallinson, who resigned as a director in May 2015, the company’s current sole shareholder is Scott Woolley, 35. A County Court Judgement of £3,939 was made against the company on 3 February. www.route-one.net/industry/tates-travel-collapses/Tates Travel was one of 92 companies ‘named and shamed’ last week. It failed to pay £384 to one employee. Business Minister Nick Boles said: “There is no excuse for not paying staff the wages they’re entitled to. “Our policy of naming and shaming employers who ignore the law means there are consequences for their reputation as well as their wallets.”

If anything replaces the 96/97, it'll only be over the West Yorkshire section I believe.

Globe Holidays are trying to claim that they had nothing to do with Tates except for the fact they parked some of the vehicles in the Tates yard.
I drove past the depot yesterday and there were a lot of globe coaches locked up in the depot, along with all the tates buses.
I'm not sure we've heard the last of this. Certainly on the Penistone Grammar school runs Tates & Globe used to interchangeably operate the services, some days it would be a tates bus, other days a globe coach.
A couple of websites are reporting that Tates is in administration rather than has entered liquidation. If they're in administration then it would leave it open for another company (Globe for example) to pick up all their assets.
Of course this is just speculation!

I've got a feeling that the green and yellow double decker they used on the 213 had (or still has) Globe legals. May be wrong though!

Some or all of them were repainted white, but when I caught up with them in Leeds last year, they did have Globe legals.

Looking back on the other thread travelwestyorks.proboards.com/thread/4133/tates-travel there is a post from ricky73 on 10th August last year about the company being stripped and drivers being forced to sign new contracts etc. Now the closure was on 8th February. Could this be coincidental, that it happened almost 6 months to the day later, just when drivers would start to be accruing better employment & redundancy rights!

Indeed some of the school buses that were operated by Tates (although often had a Globe Coach running on them) are being operated by Globe on Monday, the other routes (at least to Penistone) have mostly been taken over by Stagecoach.

No mention of the schools that Globe do in West Yorkshire. Globe appear to be continuing to do some school runs. This whole situation seems to be somewhat of a mess. I know the 410 to PGS will still be operated by Globe, but this was often serviced by a Tates bus. Globe have posted on facebook that: Which we all know is complete rubbish.

Technically, it's probably true. The company is a separate legal entity to Tates Travel Limited.

If Stagecoach are taking over the 96/97, then here's the timetable for it: www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/timetables/barnsley/912.htmwww.travelsouthyorkshire.com/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=17179873627The weekday timetable is infrequenct with the 96 running every 90-120 minutes. The 97 would run one journey from Barnsley and two from Wakefield, while the 96a would run one journey each way between Barnsley and Wakefield (not to Denby Dale) running via 97 route from Barnsley to Woolley Village then across to West Bretton then via 96 route to Wakefield. The Saturday service would see the 96 running every 60-65 minutes with a 90 minute gap in the middle of the day. No service on the 96a and 97 on Saturdays and no Sunday service on the 96.

As far as I'm aware. Globe will be operating this.

Bet passengers on the 96/7 won't be happy, and I bet they're well confused now as well, they've gone from a frequent service to an infrequent (and in the case of the 97, skeleton!) service where one day there told Stagecoach are running it, then the next Globe are! Despite the fact this has been dropped on the PTEs just like that, this sort of messing passengers about is avoidable, I'm assuming it's a tender as can't see why Globe would want to take on a patchy timed service what will loose custom on a commercial basis, it must be an admin error but can't understand why SYPTE staff didn't check who has the contract first before publishing, so simple. Oh and noticed SYPTE are saying the 24 has been covered by Stagecoach, but it's not until you look at the timetable that Denby Dale passengers can see it's no longer going there. Again not good.

Just out of interest, What type of vehicles do Globe operate?. I was under the assumption they just ran coaches and school buses. What vehicles will be used to operate the much missed and lamented Tates services?.
