The WYMetro website shows a list of routes that Tate's operated in West Yorkshire. There is nothing about alternate short term arrangements.

A Facebook site is reporting Stagecoach taking over routes 23/24 and 92 with immediate effect There are some 92 services being operated by Stagecoach this evening, but no official news on the 23/24 yet. Apparently Globe are still trading and unaffected by this.

I wonder who will take on the 485?

There is plenty of scope for small operators like Tates, but they have to be well capitalised and of a very high standard of operation and a shrewd judge of what is viable. More will go to the wall.

I think it is more of a case that there was greater scope for the smaller operators, but now the risk is increasing while the rewards are reducing. Being well capitalised might well help to protect against failure but it will seriously reduce the return on investment. It will be interesting to see what happens when fuel prices return to levels before the recent significant falls.

I should imagine Arriva and Stagecoach are likely to step in with some of the services, while others may go to the likes of First, M Travel or Yorkshire Tiger. - 8/8A - Barnsley - Worsbrough Common circulars (Mon-Sat daytime) - Probably withdrawn - most of route covered by other services
- 23 - Barnsley - Stocksbridge - Penistone (Mon-Sat daytime) - Potentially Stagecoach
- 23A - Barnsley - Stocksbridge - Penistone (Evenings and Sundays) - Potentially Stagecoach
- 24 - Barnsley - Penistone - Denby Dale (Mon-Sat daytime) - Potentially Stagecoach or Yorkshire Tiger
- 28/28A/28B/29 Barnsley - Hemsworth - Pontefract (Mon-Sat evenings & Sunday) - Likely Stagecoach
- 29B - South Hiendley - Pontefract (Mon-Fri mornings) - Potentially Stagecoach or Arriva
- 34/34A - Barnsley - Shafton circulars (Mon-Sat daytime) - Probably withdrawn - most of route covered by other services
- 75/75A/76 - Middleton ASDA circular services (Mon-Sat daytime) - Potentially First, M Travel or Yorkshire Tiger
- 92/92a - Barnsley - Penistone - Holmfirth (Daytime) - Potentially First WY, Stagecoach or Yorkshire Tiger
- 96 - Barnsley - West Bretton - Wakefield (Daytime) - Potentially Stagecoach or Arriva
- 96A - Barnsley - Denby Dale (Saturdays) - Probably withdrawn
- 97 - Barnsley - Woolley Village - Wakefield (Mon-Fri daytime) - Partly covered by 443/444
- 157 - Wakefield - Normanton - Pontefract (Mon-Sat evenings) - Likely to be Arriva, possibly M Travel or Stagecoach
- 300 - Penistone - Millhouse Green (Mon-Sat daytime) - Potentially Stagecoach
- 443 - Wakefield - Hall Green (Evenings all week) - Likely to be Arriva, possibly M Travel or Stagecoach
- 485 - Wakefield - Ackworth - South Elmsall (Daily) - Potentially Arriva, M Travel or Stagecoach

75 Asda could also be CT Plus, or even LOT
If Globe Travel is uneffected, then there will be no schools to cover in WY, it's notable that they run some trips that they picked up from Geldards and Eddie Brown!

The 23/300 Could possibly be TM Travel either, they run the 7/A to Barnsley & 29 To Penistone so they could Interwork things right to reduce dead mileage, there's Watersons as well (Shafton route would fit in with their network)

Being well capitalised might well help to protect against failure but it will seriously reduce the return on investment. It will be interesting to see what happens when fuel prices return to levels before the recent significant falls. There will still be a gap for small operators but they need to be well run & focused on what they are doing (capitalisation is less vital if you are making a profit), with all the cut backs coming in there will be more work falling out the bottom that can work for an operator with lower overheads not looking for a big return (few small bus operators make anything like a sensible return on investment, they make enough for a living, possibly to pass on to the kids as their inheritance, with the knowledge that as long as it remains a going concern there is value in the assets that can be realised if needed). The problem, particularly in the metropolitan areas like West & South Yorkshire, is that with all the threats to future business for bus operators from franchising you are seeing fewer enter (the risk is high that everything you put in becomes worthless overnight with a loss of routes for no compensation and the glut of secondhand vehicles on the market depressing the value of the fleet when you try & sell it) and many getting out by selling up whilst there is still value in what they own which means there is less beneath the larger operators making the impact of the cuts higher as there is no one beneath picking up the scraps that fall off the table.

There's an interesting comment on the Travel South Yorks forum basically giving an overview of how this company ended up in this mess. The writer explains he has little sympathy with the remaining drivers left as the warning signs were there for some time, if I'm honest, I too have little sympathy as some drivers had that can't be arsed attitude, take Saturday for example, bus 75 at Middleton ASDA for Hunslet didn't turn up, but it did in disguise as a 76! Bloody lazy driver comes off the Ring Road past the ASDA side stop and up round the St Georges roundabout as a 76 showing ASDA, then drives past the opposite stop without even looking to see if I wanted the bus, I didn't luckily as I didn't want to dare board the pile of battered dirt and so gladly waited for the 86 (bet you don't hear that every day) which turned up using a Scania in much better nick, and that's something else you don't hear much. This 76 by the way wasn't a late running 76, it was defo a 75 as it followed the 75 route going straight on at the Ring Road and not left.

Metro says that Arriva takes over the 29b, 157, 443 and 485 from tomorrow (Wednesday) and, as mentioned above, Yorkshire Tiger takes over the 75/75/76 services also from tomorrow. Also, as mentioned above, Stagecoach will run services 23, 24, 34/34A and 92, whilst re-surrecting the 25 between Holmfirth and Penistone only. Service 23 will not serve Langsett and service 92 runs between Barnsley and Millhouse Green with some journeys running to/from Crow Edge. Service 24 will run between Barnsley and Ingbirchworth only, not serving Upper Denby or Denby Dale. Service 25 runs every 2 hours daytime between Holmfirth and Penistone. Timetables for the 23, 24 and 25 are on Stagecoach website. Stagecoach are also looking at how to replace Tates 8/8A services. That leaves services 96, 96A and 97 and the evening/Sunday journeys on the 28/28a/28b as the only other services not replaced as of yet. www.wymetro.com/tates-travel/www.arrivabus.co.uk/yorkshire/updates/new-services---tates-travel/www.stagecoachbus.com/service-updates/serviceupdatesarticle?SituationId=ID-09/02/2016-08:46:08:133www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/disruptions.aspx?id=15032385959
