Over the next 12-18 months Leeds are to receive 90 new buses, a mixture of double & single deck.
Also, it is rumoured that 20 low floor Darts are to come to Leeds from London.
Can't wait for them!

I'm not sure but if the scania single deckers are to go, then it will probably be to other divisions that already have plenty scanias in their fleet. For example Edinburgh? (maybe (?))

I think its a good idea that leeds are getting more new buses, some of the Royals will go as most of the buses on the Headingley Corriodor in to the city arnt low floor buses. Unless the Darts from London will replace the Scania single deckers that arnt low floor. Surely this is a good thing and also shows us that the money from fair increases is paying off. I personaly cant wait to see more new buses, it will make the fleet more uniform and also i will have a better ride to work on a new bus comparied to a 91 single dart or Scania.

Hi
The 20 or so London Darts are meant to be heading for both Bramley and Atkinson Street depots to replace some of the existing Dennis Dart Plaxton Pointer & Alexander Dash buses. Theses are been withdrawn very shortly for scrap. Meanwhile some will survive and are going on a long journey south to Africa or so where like that.
The first batch of the new Volvo's Wright Eclipses & Gemini’s will enter service on the Cherryrow, Scot Hall Road corridor routes which are currently operated by Wright Axcess Ultralow buses.
The Wright Axcess Ultralow buses based at Cherryrow will then be shared out and moved to either Bramley or Atkinson Street depots to start the replacement of the Scania Striders and any remaining Dennis Darts in the fleet.
The second & third batch of new Volvo’s once delivered to both Atkinson street and Bramley garages will allow the eventual withdrawal of the remaining Scania Striders & Double deck Scania 113’s which are to be either scrapped or Cascaded to other first companies. The leased Leyland Olympian’s will also disappear one would have thought.
First in Leeds will be Dennis Dart and Scania Strider free with-in the next 12 to 18 months or so hopefully. Well that’s the plan as I last heard it.

I am suprised that the Scot Hall Rd corridor is been upgraded so soon. Will these been dubble deckers or single still? It would be a good idea to give those buses a clean up, paint job before moving them to Bramley or Atkinson.
The leyland olympians, where are they leased from, i am right in thinking that are manly on the Otley Rd corridor so there will be new buses on there i guess. Surely not all 90 new buses will be for the scot halls?
Thanks for the info above really helpfull.

In 1998 it was said that the the buses on Scott Halls would be replaced after 5 years in order to keep the guideway routes high profile, so on that basis the renewal is 5 years late. Actually, I suspect the original comment back then was said without foundation because it looked good in the press at the launch and would be quickly forgotten. 28 B7RLE's are in the course of delivery for Scott Halls (69329 up) although I think some Geminis may come later as mentioned in an earlier report. 2. The leased Olympians in question are the Leyland bodied J-YRM's which are at Bramley for school work although they appear on normal routes from time to time. The lease is thought to have been inherited when First bought Capital Citybus in London who had taken the original lease out.

why are there gettin more new buses for? havent there got enough all ready? In a word - No. First have just placed an order for 700 new buses and Leeds & Aberdeen will be the first to receive their share. There are deadlines imposed by the Disability Discrimination Act which says that by 2014-16 all buses on stage service will have to be low floor and it was highlighted in the trade press recently that First have been under-replacing in recent years. In order for the fleet countrywide to be low floor by the deadline I expect these size orders to be repeated in coming years. (Great for Wrightbus!)

The low floor DDA date is actually 1 January 2017, so quite a bit to go yet. Also watch out for more cascades coming from London other than the Marshall Darts, I have heard some B7 double doors are coming up before the end of the year. Jason JML8371

I was on 40612 M240VWW on 73 today, is it just me or have the steering wheel and dashboard controls been replaced? They looked a lot more modern than I imagined they would be like, I have never really paid that much attention to them.

Are those Low floor Darts from London, the ones that are at Rotherham being refurbished or something? There was a thread about them on TSY forum.

I remember when the Darts were new, in Leeds City Link livery. They were used on the 51/52 route near where I used to live. I never really liked them that much and I used to prefer to get a Black Prince bus, usually a Volvo Ailsa or a Mercedes-Benz Optare Prisma.

It's about time First moved away from the whole Wright bodied Volvos because they are starting to get a bit boring now. Or you can say they got boring ages ago. we need something completly different this year.

In my view, the only thing they need to change is the seats. Far too uncomfortable. Wright/Volvo's are so popular for a reason - they are good.

Well look back didn't bus companies get their Olympians, Antlanteans and Metrobuses in their 100s 20/30 years ago as standard vehicle types. In 20 years time when the Geminis etc will get withdrawn (if they have lasted that long), who ever will be operating buses will be buying standards types.

And... that wont happen for 2 reasons a) they do their job well b) theres a deal done with wright bus and volvo to secure around £125,000,000 worth of brand new buses! (see this weeks Bus & Coach Buyer)

Given the massive investment in new buses for Leeds (well, "massive" compared to what we're used to here in South Yorkshire!), what routes have been/ are being converted to low floor operation?
And what will be left with high floor buses in Leeds?

To press the remaining regular 'high floor' operated routes are 8, 9, 28, 33, 38, 44, 46, 55, 60, 61, 62, 63, 73, 76, 78, 85, 86, 87, 88, 90, 91, 92, 95, 96, 97, X84, though of course this doesn't account for misallocations etc etc.

Would also be good to see an upgrade for the 56 - in the past this has been First Leeds' premier (busiest) Overground route (could well still be the case) and the ALX400s are looking a little down at heel at the moment.
